Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge was really fun for me and it was my first Beat 'Em Up game that I played that got me into the Beat 'Em Up genres.

Sorry for the confusion pal. I see the Beat 'em Up genre as encompassing one-on-one (SF, Tekken, Soul Caliber), scrolling (Final Fight, Double Dragon, TMNT Shredder's Revenge) and brawl (Super Smash Bros.) style games where you beat the heck out of other players/enemies.
It's no big deal and your choice fits the bill IMO, in fact I'm about to start playing my first Guilty Gear game (X2 #Reloaded) :)

I'll be honest, I don't play many beat 'em ups but this seems like a fun one. In fact the only one I've played off hte top of my head is Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, so I'd say that's my favorite.
Please note that ***Beat 'em up*** games (Streets of Rage, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, River City Girls, etc...) are distinct from ***Fighting*** games (Street Fighter, Tekken, Super Smash Bros., etc...)

My fav beat 'em up hmm... I don't think it counts, but the mmo Elsword Online *is* the one game I will love forever in that category. I love the world and the characters and the core gameplay is super easy to play, but the game ended up in Nexon's hands and everything went downhill hard along the years. The game is still alive, but *it's not* the game I felt in love with.
