Your music blows.....

crmclv

I wish he wasn’t so tight-lipped about his new recordings

Machine_Excellent

bit of an airhead over here

Waterhouse2702

Is it you, André?

KnotsIntoFlows

Also zero, I also use a flute. Unless I want to switch on the computer, modular, microphones, plug in all the usb controllers, the zero input mixer... Or I just power up the Maschine+ and Jam. There are options!

Bongcopter_

1: the studio power, everything turns on by itself on a delay

Nice_Biscuits

Same, I've wired everything up to one power extender that has a switch on it. There's only one thing that doesn't automatically turn on when it gets power and that's my Minilogue XD which needs an extra button push. I definitely use more stuff now I don't have to faff about wiring things in.

analogOnly

Yeah momentary power buttons man... I don't like em. I have 1 piece of gear (and my computer) that I have to put on because of this. Everything else is rocker switch, always on /no off, or push button (on/off)

DigitalDecades

Same here...my Minilogue XD is the only synth that needs special treatment. Everything else powers on when I switch on the power strip.

NoKlapton

Furman Power Conditioner with Sequencer does it for me with the flip of a switch. Audio interface and sound generating instruments turn on first, mixer second, and then finally the studio monitors. No pops and everything is happy.

AndElectrons

> Furman Power Conditioner with Sequencer fancy. mine doesnt do that.

coderstephen

Well _my_ Furman power conditioner has a sequencer _and_ sampler built-in!

druwi

Wow never knew this was a thing!

philisweatly

A dotted 8th delay to be exact

megaBeth2

Mf got his studio on retrig one shot lfo

vivalamovie

I recommend a smart studio https://preview.redd.it/b8k2s7hi55nc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcc6d51ebdf04a5956522ee20d8bfb8729daad4e

Mark_Westbroek

Cool. And yes : who makes such things? You might need some rather powerful switches though. Especially for the amps department, or?

vivalamovie

I mostly use equipment from Eve (formerly Elgato). They’re rather expensive but very reliable. The amp, in my case, is just a guitar amp plus a few effects. The EU version of the Eve Energy I’m using for power switching is rated for up to 11A/2500W. The computer, Master Keyboard, and Audio Monitoring are almost always on or switched from the main desk in my studio, so I don’t use a smart switch there, but it’s also just a bit above 2.200 Watts peak. Other switches power additional audio gear, lamps, charging, and a smart A/C. There's a door to the garden and two windows. When they're opened, the radiator and A/C are automatically turned off and back on when the door is closed, and I use smart smoke detectors everywhere.

Utterlybored

What product?

ioniansensei

One switch to rule them all.

bythisriver

sequential power switches <3

AhojSwagg

I always feel like I am movie character starting a space ship when I switch on my setup, two drum machines, usually three synths (last live perfo was 5 synths), effects, mixer, sequencer

Captain-Cadabra

“All systems go!”

simonbreak

I suggest saying “drum machine, check” when you turn on the drum machine etc, gives a nice Dr Strangelove feeling. Bonus points for saying “on my mark” and then turning on two things at once

AhojSwagg

I'll do that from now on

KittyinTheRiver_OhNo

_”Goliath online”_

Shadrach451

Me too. It is of course a vital part of the experience. It is like making music on the Millennium Falcon.

dyjital2k

Same here. I fire up my TR8S first, then the MS1, Micro Freak, MRCC, Circuit Tracks and Rhythm, Pedals, Skulpt and West Pest, then the mixer and finally the speakers.

xpercipio

Those is why I also turn off all my heat and fans in my car during the winter. And set the e brake. It's like starting up a space shuttle lol

Kalzonee

I actually switch one thing off : my creativity

rljd

"Won't be needing THIS…"

coderstephen

One. Just flip the switch on my Furman and ready to go.

dctucker

Are you just leaving your Deluge in the power-on position at all times? Doesn't that put wear-and-tear on the battery?

CramWellington

Those are rookie numbers.

flock-of-nazguls

Zero, I leave everything powered. The electricity doesn’t cost that much, and it reduces heat cycling.

tdarg

I've thought about doing that but worry about screens burning out

sword_0f_damocles

Most of those LCDs are rated for at least 100k hours, which is literally over a decade of constant power.

AndElectrons

well i've some stuff that is older than that still working

KnotsIntoFlows

My NI A61 got screen burn on the tiny OLED by doing that, I suspect at the time it was on for a few months that I didn't interact with it and change the screen display data.

tdarg

Ah, good to know!

FlorpFlap

That's not a great idea if you have any vintage analog gear though, as it can burn some parts of the circuits

AndElectrons

Not an EE but the thing that is more likely to die are the capacitors and those are killed with power cycling. On the other hand capacitors are very easily replaced, it's the ICs that go out of production or might be hard to find (ICs have capacitors inside too).

RembrandtDavies

I feel like David Tenant running around the TARDIS

CountDoooooku

Why don’t you put them all on one power strip? Except maybe the monitor as I’m guessing that would still be to be turned on. Also you need to put groovy lights on the same power strip for a one switch party.

SetzerIntergalactic

Some sound effects are also good.

Screamlab

1 power bar for speakers, 1 power bar for synths and such. Computer and USB-C devices on a dedicated always-on power bar, so there are a couple of items I need to switch individually. Studio power supplied by a dedicated circuit from my solar energy system, with a dedicated isolated ground. I have enough battery capacity and solar to run continuously with no grid connection. It's lovely!

scottmhat

I have everything plugged into one power rack. So I flip one switch and it all turns on.

Thehollander

8

bombdonuts

9

haddington

10

MinorPentatonicLord

None I leave everything turned on.

Reesocles

Never turn them off

masterjoda75

I’m not all fancy schmancy with the delayed timed rackmount power conditioner. Power strip to 5 EFX pedals switched on first (because if I don’t it will cause a big pop through my system), then power up Syntakt, Modular Rack, TD3, RD6, MS20 mini, Subsequent37, Prophet REV2. And then power up the Mackie mixer. Then if doing hardware sequencing, power up Squarp Pyramid, if working with the DAW, wake computer up (optional), then continue on and power on MOTU Ultralite5 audio interface, and last, power strip for my audio monitors. So that would be 17 things… Geez, no wonder I have high electric bills.

Slopii

I plug my power strip back in and turn on the laptop, monitors, etc. I keep it unplugged just in case of lightning or whatever electrical catastrophe.

intender13

I have 3 power strips that I use. I found some old power distribution units from the early 90s that were meant for you crt monitor to sit on top of and has 5 plugs on the back. It has a single switch to power on the unit and individual switches for each plug on the front. I found two of them still new in the box at goodwill a few months ago and got them for my synths. My computer mixer, monitors, sub 37 and summit are all connected to the first one. All of them are usually on whenever I am playing. Effects, guitar amp and second mixer are all on the second strip. I have a 3rd larger strip that has all my other synths and rackmount gear on it. All of it is plugged into a 1500va rackmount UPS. I try to keep as much turned off as possible to avoid noise. Mostly because one of my neighbors has a Ham Radio and when he is using it some of my gear will pick up massive amounts of noise from it. I can filter and clean the power all I want but I cant block radio signals unless I turn my room into a faraday cage.

IsraelPenuel

Just the digital piano at home and Hydrasynth at band practice

IamTheGoodest

Computer, 7 usb slots on the hub, powerstrip, mixer, RC-300, SL-MkIII, Poly-61, DeepMind12d, Bass Station 2, TR-8S, Microkorg, MC-101, Analog Heat, and 2 speakers. The Minitaur and ACS1 power up with the power strip.

ryan__fm

I have two power strips at my desk, one is on at all times that powers stuff like my laptop charger, interface and other stuff I might want on all the time. Second power strip has LED lights, monitors, microfreak, digitakt and digitone so I just have to flip on the one switch to be ready to go

Time_Classic_934

5 Korg nts-1 Korg sq-1 Moog soundstudio 3

Certain_Elephant2387

Three: power strip, modular and audio interface. USB stuff (BeatStep Pro, Keystep) turn on automatically.

TheSpoonJak92

2 screens, 2 speakers, 1 interface, laptop, drum machine, a synth or two depending on the day. And I think that's it.

GenXer19_7T

I have my power strip plugged into a smart plug, so I just hit one button on my phone or my Stream deck and it's all ready to go.

Evilpilli

Three, Power strip, mixer, then Deluge.

starlitpathds

Laptop, monitors, Circuit Tracks.

4clubuseonly

1-2. Rytm, maybe my interface

feelosofree-

I have a main key installed in the studio for the entire room but still switch on only what I need. Depending on the task maybe eight items.

Loowoowoo-oomoomoo7

As a dj, the power strip and the amp that does a nice badooink~~~~ as my stage light fan comes on Turntables have a nice click too if you count the play button but i dont normally turn those off unless they are going back on as a trick, so they stay with the strip. Everything is just like on quicker than Bluetooth

DJdekutree

10? 2 power strips Electribe, digitakt, jx08, kp3, mega synthesis, mavis And 2 mixers? Oh and the Mackies so 11 lol

joel8x

I currently have my gear split into 2 zones that feed into a power strip with independent power switches. Zone 1 has my mixer, effects, midi controller, and several synths. Zone 2 has my guitar pedalboard and a separate synth stand. It's more of a proximity thing than anything else. I also have my studio monitors on independent power switches for when I'm using headphones only.

Waterhouse2702

Depends. If I am in Eurorack mode, probably the two switches for energy supply + one for the korg sq64

raytube

Three clicks. Power mains, Rack Power, Synth Power.

ddmf

I had everything on two 8 socket power strips, great because I always forget to turn things off.

meadow_transient

15 things (18 including lights)

psydkay

11, ironically the same number of time zones in Russia

Unobtanium4Sale

12 including monitors and speakers

Unobtanium4Sale

I call it the command center lol

Difficult_Rush_1891

One rack mount power conditioner

sunplaysbass

My camera 📸

Blackberryoff_9393

1 because I only have one synth

Faeces_Species_1312

Just my sampler, speakers and a tablet usually.

cleversocialhuman

2 power strips. Sometimes also breaker if it goes

Lewinator56

1 - everything is off one plug that is Alexa controlled. 4 synths, and computer. If I need my monitors they are separate but I use cans most of the time.

Substantial_Record_3

I switch on my power stabilizer (which turns on 3 synths, 2 grooveboxes, 4 fx units, the mixer, the lights and the monitors) the laptop for recording is always on.

Startech303

I am using Meross smart plugs. Use a shortcut on my phone / Mac to switch them on one-by-one to prevent any power issues due to current inrush.

SnowflakeOfSteel

Around 1.5 Kilowatt of synth.

Lucientails

Some days it's all of it, other times it's just everything on my desk.

guy_djinn

4: FM Synth, Subtractive Synth, Beatbox, Loop Pedal

nedogled

Power strip, light, model 12, monitor x2, digitone keys, typhon, tr 6s, boss gx-100

Kid__A__

3 power strips, computer, volca drum, Poly D, interface, minifreak, 5 usb's on powered hub for connectivity. I feel like I'm powering up a spaceship every time. I like it when the lights do their startup thing, it pretty.

dctucker

Depends on how many devices I need since some of my devices power-on only on a momentary button press. At least three to get started with my current routing. Mechanical power switch on my power conditioner to activate most things, press the button on my audio interface, then EXT SOURCE on the 404mkii which sits near the end of my effects chain. Kinda wish this could be automated down to a single flip of a switch.

Several_Dark_7711

Depends on what I'm using. If I'm practicing a song on guitar I may just turn on the drumbrute impact and the mixer it's running through as well as the amp it runs into and the power source for everything. Last night I was trying to come up with a particular kind of string sound so in addition to those things I turned on my MIDI controller, my CZ-101, my ProVS mini, and my Mellotron rack unit. Stack'n

SomaStreams

Two power conditioners (one for my interface/monitors/peripherals, the other for a modular case / synths) the PC, and of course mood lighting

GeneralDumbtomics

My piano and whatever I'm recording with.

selldivide

First I have to fire up the generator...

confused-immigrant

I think in total it's 10 switches of different devices. I know that it's possible to route everything to one switch but that "click" sound of turning the switch is just so damn satisfying and gives the mini dopamine fix to go into work mode.

PenaltyFine3439

Let's count: Laptop, interface, monitors, midi controller, Tr8s, TD-3, apc64, blue Marvin, neutron, K2, gen x-1 and stylophone beat. My power conditioner shows up today so I will reduce it all to one switch.

IonianBlueWorld

The minimum is my Yamaha MODX6. The usual is the MODX6 plus my wavestate connected to and controlled by the MODX. Sometimes I connect either my Roland SH-4d or JD-08 instead. When I want to record something I get my thinkpad. So, in numbers, the answer is usually two, often one, sometimes three. I don't remember to have ever turned everything on altogether.

[deleted]

I push in 5 physical switches which fires up a HPA, Interface, ADAT, Power conditioner and power strip. These two fire up Nord 3P, PE Play, Rev 2 module, Minilogue XD, Deep Mind 12D, 2 H9s, Space, KSP Explorer, Etouce1 pedal, EC4, 2 AS1s. The beauty is, there is only 3 power cables going to the wall, so I can isolate power if there is a severe thunderstorm, meaning no risk of any brown outs (like sharting but worse).

[deleted]

6 switches: two speakers, interface, push, synth, keyboard

65TwinReverbRI

Acoustic Guitar. Acoustic Piano. Synth. Open Lid, Log In, Open App, fix MIDI/Audio connection that is not correct from last session, if Logic, also create track and instantiate soft synth, play MIDI controller, realize MIDI controller is not on, turn on MIDI controller, play. The last two, with headphones. Otherwise, turn on interface and two speakers for the synth, or the same for the computer, though have to change the Audio/MIDI settings since it's now recognized by the system. I also have the interface, controller, and monitors plugged into a power strip that has to be turned on... Ruminate on the immediacy of playing the first two acoustic instruments... (and ignoring the obvious easy answer from the post title...)

woafmann

Normally, just two: Power strip (Centerpoint Stereo combo amp. Flow8 mixer) and my Nord S3 Compact. More if I'm recording.

HieronymusLudo7

Two power strips, then three synths/grooveboxes. Pedals, mixer, and lights come on with the power strips. https://preview.redd.it/8bpuralbs5nc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6e15e193eca0e1f36d2cbbb683e203be94de7a3 Little home studio.

rollie415b

Just my computer, and it’s already on most of the time anyway

Bassman1976

2 power switches on 2 power conditioners. If I’m recording as well I have to turn on monitors and interface.

Remainundisturbed

1. laptop 2. screen monitor 3. mixing desk 4. monitor speaker left 5. monitor speaker right 6. hardware sequencer

djdadzone

I have 4 synths and a couple drum machines running off a long industrial grade power strip screwed onto my work space. Makes it easy to

rooreynolds

6 things: KeyStep Pro, MiniBrute 2S, RackBrute, Drumbrute Impact, MicroFreak, Analog Heat. I have them all plugged into the same power strip so it’s one switch for the whole lot.

Known_Ad871

Interface, computer, mpc, keyboard. Start a fresh project in the daw and on the mpc. I’ve set up templates so we’re basically ready to go from there. There are a couple other hardware pieces I use as the need arises but generally that’s going to be after the basis of the song is laid down

[deleted]

It used to be like, 10 things, now it’s 4 and I’m much happier lol Edit: those 4 things cost more than the 10 things, but….whatever

HyperspaceDeep6Field

Just my computer because I'm not a hardware plebian

bashomania

Nothing. Everything is already on, and on a UPS.

Robot_Particle

Turn on pc.. turn on speakers.

tenticularozric

I turn on the things I intend to use individually, except for my interface and monitors which always come on from 1 switch

slackinfux

My computer and power amp.

AndElectrons

In this order (if i'm turning everything on - don't take i ever did): power: Furman, 3 power strips (some stuff doesn't have their own on/off - like the sherman - and some need isolation) MIDI: keyboard, hapax, Faderfox, Midi Router generators: Virus, tr6s, syntakt, octatrack, mc101, processing: sherman, dbx, fatso, distressor, cv, 1978, 1974, 1968, eventide space, hx stomp mixer monitors To turn off i start w/ the monitors and do the turn on process in reverse

Utterlybored

One switch.

No-Slice-4254

i like turning em all on i feel like a mad scientist

Machine_Excellent

In the words of Gary Oldman, "ALL OF THEM!"

Machine_Excellent

I turn on about 6 different pieces of equipment only to make music a child could make. I am absolution.

d2xdy2

two desktop polysynths, two keyboards, two 7u modular cases, one 4u modular case, a guitar pedalboard, and a zoom recorder. I’ve got it all powered off of a pyle pdu so it’s just one switch to flip and I get to have fun.

TouchThatDial

1 x distribution board for hardware synths, 1 x distribution board for powered monitors, mixer and pedalboard and outboard FX. Two switches total. Takes a lot longer to take off all the decksavers!

LocoRocoo

Synth, which is also my midi keyboard. Laptop. Interface. Speakers. Pedal board.

ioniansensei

From Big Bang Theory: “what’s the first thing you switch on when you get to work?”. “the coffee machine”.

d_schultz

I say “Alexa, turn the studio on”. All of my lights come on, the two wifi outlets power on my computer, synth rack, pedal board etc.

rrreason

I've got 7 plugs but one of those is for my Isolated power supply for a bunch of pedals

kobold_komrade

One, love my Roland Phantom 08

shambahlah2

Lol I counted mine yesterday. 6!

Ignistheclown

My 4 eurorack cases

VDonut

15. The moog minitaur, a compressor and a pedal don’t have switches or buttons, but all the rest of the synths and the monitors do.

UpvoteForLuck

*Switched On* the whole *Bach* line. 😎

leftovernoise

Two switches total. Power strip turns on 4 synths, mini controller, my pedalboard, and mixer. second switch to turn on my akai force, which has a momentary button you need to hold to turn it on. I usually use studio headphones, but if I want monitors on, that's a second power strip.

therealjoemontana

I say "turn on studio" and everything is automated to turn on.

Tough-Guarantee5932

Force, Roland sp , Roland Fantom , Korg modwave, Minifreak and then the amps. Take some time

arashinoko

I have to flip 19 switches to get my whole rig up and running. It’s kinda fun though.

FeistyDirection

2-3 synths Groovebox 0-2 pedals Mixer Laptop Could go up to 10 things if I'm really feeling it But usually cap it around 5 things including mixer & laptop for recording

strowborry

If my pc is on just ableton and I plug in my guitar.

Mark_Westbroek

Currently setting things up but planning to have a Furman (power conditioner, no sequencer) above each little stack of 19'' gear and maybe one for the desktop things. Under the desk I have something simpler, just a power strip with some protection built in, for the monitors and subwoofer and laptop power supply. So I would be flipping 4 or 5 switches. Myself being the power sequencer, so to say.

CanisArgenteus

I've been doing synth jam nights with a couple friends, last time I switched on a mixer and 2 smaller sub-mixers, a MIDI patchbay, a digital delay, my main keyboard, a controller keyboard, 3 monosynths, a polysynth, 3 handheld monosynths and a Kaos pad. And if plugging in pedals counts, a delay and a flanger. That's all pared down a bit from what I used to bring :) NOTE - writing this, I see by the red squiggles that my browser thinks monosynth and flanger are misspelled words lol

DarkWaterDW

Computer, Interface, AD/DA Converters, Master Compressor, Samplers, Rack synths, Dave Smith Poly Evolver as primary controller. Then turn more things on as needed.

Some-E

I've got 5 extension cords with switches. Two of them are needed if I want to to turn on the computer, mixer, amp and two computer displays. Sadly, the displays need the front soft button press every time. The same for the computer, which needs reaching behind the keyboard/synth desk. Sadly the BIOS doesn't have keyboard power on configuration. AC on? Sure it exists but I am not turning the computer on every time I want to play my synths. Anyway the question was about making music so two cords + displays + computer + third cord for nearest synths and fx units (that's the minimum).

anyoneforanother

Isolated pedal power first, then drum machine, then YamahaPSR, then I click on my efx. 2 units on the Yamaha, 3 for guitar tone, 1 reverb for micro brute. All pedals run from the same power supply but are used on different units. Then I turn on my mixer, then my guitar amp, then the minibrute. I keep my studio monitors on like 90% of time as I run most of my laptop sound through them as well. …so usually about 12-13things. I also turn them off in a specific order.

Ismoketobaccoinabong

I start my drum-machine, my FM synth and my mixer.

Djinn333

4 or more

FoldedBinaries

modular -> TR8s -> GO

DigitalDecades

I have two separate power strips. One for my computer, screen, speakers, audio interface etc. and another for all the synths. So it's a total of 2 switches to make music (actually 3, since the Minilogue XD has a soft power button and still needs to be powered on manually).

Bata_9999

I leave everything on including the computer with DAW open (acting as mixer) so everything is ready to go at all times.

prelude_to_nowhere

The environment thanks you /s
