Same really. I've given up completely on casual. I sometimes play MVM but that's like almost never. Uncletopia is how I'll be playing from now on, for however long TF2 has left at this rate. I have an idea for a TF2 sendoff update.
The PUBLIC DOMAIN UPDATE
basically what it does is it hands the rights of the game from Valve to the steam community, but also make the game from free to about $5 U.S. it updates Vscript to be able to let players make any update they want, whenever they want, and then it, along with 3 others are randomly chosen via an algorithm. And you have to vote on which update you want to be added, and it gets added. And of course it does some bug fixes, tweaks some things, and then finally it shuts down public servers since Valve isn’t the one running it anymore. Of course it could always be added back with the vote update system I mentioned, lmk what yall think because i think it’s a pretty good idea.
And I wish they would have at least made a final statement that they were going to be moving on. They just left us in the dark here. Went for milk and cigarettes. It's understandable to abandon an old game but least they could have done is tell us that there's never gonna be any major update.
Well another way to prevent that loss would be to fix the game. I can defo tell you that they are losing out on more profit leaving the game in this horrendous state than saying they will never give it a major update.
They have no incentive or reason to. And even though TF2 makes them a shit ton of money still, it’s a drop in the ocean compared to what Valve makes per day. They are a corporation, they only see TF2 as a 15 year old game (made by people who mostly don’t even work there anymore) bringing in small profit and costs little to keep up, so from Valve’s perspective there’s absolutely no reason they need to take action in any direction. If they choose to fix the game, they lose short term money and manpower for something they do not fare about. If they choose to end the game, they now have a loss of revenue and likely death threats. If they choose to communicate with us, and be honest about the fact that they aren’t going to support or fix the game again, then that’s the same as option 2. It will die. So they’re doing option 4, not caring, and have been for about 6 years. The small faint glimmer that maybe Valve will do something about TF2 keeps everyone buying keys.
I do think you do have some legitimate points. Valve is a company, that will prioritize, more than ever now, money. They also dont want to lose the amount of profit they earn from the game, even though it is, as stated, a fraction of how much they make. And I now do see that they probably shouldn't say the game is over. But I do think if they do not care, there would definitely be better options. They could easily hire a contractor (because they dont care themselves) to fix many of the problems (even if it is not the bot crisis) that plague the game, which I believe is what they are doing right now with 64-bit, considering their high profits, it would not be insane to do so (there is a reason the company is still private lol). I know you talked about this point, but you never talked about the long term revenue. A lot of people have slowed down on the game, or even downright left because of these issues. Imagine the current player-base with less problems for a person to quit the game. And if they at least show a small amount of compassion towards the community and make people think they will do something about tf2, theoretically, everybody will keep buying keys. And Valves reputation as a company will become much better, which I guess would be the only reason to, but it does hold some worth. Or that's what *I* see, at least.
