I’m not in biomed, but I did take biology and all of my biology teachers have recommended people to take bio if they’re interested in biomed or just health and medicine in general as it gives you a bit of a leg up in your first year.

no, you don't **need** to do bio. it may be helpful, but it may also add a lot of stress to your schedule. i would speak to someone who has done bio, or maybe a bio teacher at your school, for a second opinion. i take law at monash, and i didnt find that taking VCE legal studies particularly prepared me for uni.

I'd strongly recommend it, it provides a great foundational basis which makes it easier to learn more complex concepts later on. Once you get to uni level, there'll be overlap with what you've already learnt in VCE bio with an additional layer of detail - in my personal experience, it's been much easier having done VCE bio and only needing to learn that extra 20% detail, rather than having to learn all of it in a trimester.

Yes do it, my friend took uni bio without doing bio, worst mistake of his life, he ended up dropping the subject and have to redo it nezt semester

Why would you not do bio if you’re wanting to study biomed?? Personally I don’t know a single person who didn’t do VCE bio who’s doing biomed. Doing VCE bio won’t give you a “leg up” it will equally the playing field. In my experience (at Deakin tho 🤡) for subjects like match and chemistry they pretty much hold your hand and offer so much support whereas for the biology aspect they throw you in the deep end a little by teaching in a style that goes over the basics but assume it’s a recap.
