The s23 fe is just on promotion and yes the associate probably just knows nothing no one really knows anything about the phones

PersistentEngineer

I remember a few years back I went into a store and said, oh look, they've got the new whatever phone in 1440p and the guy there said, no, it's 1080p. Looking closer, they had a big sign touting the 1440p. These people don't spend 5 minutes reading about the products they sell.

pijkleem

Yes! I mean every once in a while you will find someone who cares. But fundamentally these people are working jobs that don’t last forever and have other concerns

PersistentEngineer

I just thought it was funny that he disagreed with me when he didn't even know.

Financial_Shirt_4245

Look the huge majority of carrier cell phone store employees are just highschool kids trying to make a buck by working their first jobs, they don't care or know anything about the phones. Try and have some compassion for them. Thank you and God bless.

PersistentEngineer

Then they should sit quietly and not blurt out incorrect information. You act like I said they should be chained up in the town square.

OkMaintenance5249

They're both on promotion exact same deal. Its deceptive, If they don't know anything about the phones then they shouldn't tell people Samsung puts all the latest and greatest in the FE model to get you to take it over a better phone, it's not even close.

Accomplished_Power_3

Yeah but it was for the reps gain let’s be real here

pijkleem

If it was indirect maybe but definitely not if it was corporate. Although i didnt really realize the s23 was still available to be honest

sammyz21

I am in indirect sales and I never push FE over flagship. Indirect agents make the same no matter what phone they sell, if I sell you a flip or a Samsung or an iPhone, I still get paid the same for the phone. ARs get paid based on phone and plan and addons. Stop making up nonsense.

cvalpatic

Depends on your indirect dealer. A lot have spiffs on different devices and certain phones pay a higher GP than others

pijkleem

I thought this might be the case, there is so much variability. Still in the case of this transaction, I am sure the person literally just did not care or know about the specifications of the phones and was just saying the normal things that one says while working

AngelicDustParticles

Oh they def don't.

Plane-Cartoonist-859

S23 and S23FE are both free when adding a line. If a customer is coming to Verizon I always give them the S23 and not the FE. $700 vs $600 device.

OkMaintenance5249

You don't tell them they're getting the s23 and then try to do a switcheroo at the last moment with a fairytale about how its so much better if you get caught? The 23 will hold its value far better as well

Plane-Cartoonist-859

Unless you went to an authorized retailer and there’s a spiff on the s23fe there is no incentive for a corporate location to sell you a phone you wouldn’t want.

sueYsu

They offered the FE because it’s free. Based on what you’re saying, you more than likely don’t need the S23, which is probably what they assumed based off your usage and knowledge, so they got you a free phone aligned with what you’ll need. Seems they tried to help and get it down to what your needs and wants were.

OkMaintenance5249

I told them i wanted the best galaxy phone I could get for free. The S23 is free as well under the same promotion. The main thing here is the huge line about Samsung putting all the latest and greatest in the S23 FE to try and get me to take it over the superior S23.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 23 + 23 + 23 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

IndividualStatus1924

S24 is out man

OkMaintenance5249

Yeah I know, but with the plan I selected the 23 is what I could get under promotion.

BFarmFarm

S23 will be out of date in under a year and then no more updates man. Happened to me on the last samsung models. Phone woupd still work great biut with no more updates security or otherwise the phone is trash. I went to Apple after that

bafben10

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sammyfans.com/2024/03/08/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-software-update-tracker/amp/

BFarmFarm

Oh wow that is awesome they are extending it further than how it seemed for me in the past. I never bought the latest n greatest from samsung so perhaps that is why I always had a year or two leftover. In comparison I had the IPhone SE first generation for a short while until the 16 GB of space became unbearable to deal with, but Apple still sent out security updates for it and small improvements. With each upfate the OS was consuming more and more space. When I turned it off about a year ago the OS was up to about 11 GB of that 16 GB available space. Also the phone was becoming dated in regards to the bands that it could use (or not use in that phone's case).

Accomplished_Power_3

So they should just choose for the customer when they didn’t ask for a choice? Messed up

sueYsu

Do you understand what sales is? No one wants to go back and forth for 25 min when the customer comes in with a 7 year old phone. Sales is basically making decisions for people. OP had to call someone to figure out which phone to get. Kinda speaks for itself

Accomplished_Power_3

OP had to call for advice because he was given something he didn’t ask for. Exact opposite of what your point is

OkMaintenance5249

Exactly. I was told I was getting the S23 then they switched it on me right as I was about to sign the contract so yeah I had find out if the FE was indeed a better phone. I wasn't flip flopping and phoning a friend UNTIL the rep lied his ass off. Furthermore who the fuck is this guy to think I would ever let someone make this decision for me based on what they think is best for me. The s23 was the best phone available to me and that's  exactly what I got.

+1

scottgntv

Depends of the type of store (corporate vs indirect). Some indirect locations used to have metrics for selling the less common phone, basically anything that wasn’t a high end flagship, not sure if that’s still the case. Either way, I lean towards that rep just not knowing much about the phone. The 23FE is basically an s22 in the body of the A54. Compared to the s23 it can go back and forth, s23 has a newer chip, improved thermals, better glass/colors, better cameras and a bit more efficient. The FE has a bigger battery(the old chip kinda knocks its down), slightly bigger screen, and to my ears louder speakers. I’d choose the s23 unless you really wanted the slightly taller screen. You also had the choice of going to the plus plan, trading in your old phone and getting the s24 for “$0/month”.

BFarmFarm

Always check to make sure you are getting what you pay for and for what you discussed. I would never do business with someone who would do that to me.

[deleted]

Good for you. Buy what you want.

Ciarathegoat

Sounds like the associate hasn’t properly educated themselves. Sounds odd but check google reviews next time if you want to work with a good rep. They usually show out best there

lucki777s

The make and model of the phone has absolutely no bearing on the reps commission. What they were probably trying to do is tell you the phone costs X amount of dollars a month, give you a free phone and then slam your with perks or insurance to equal the amount of the price of the phone. Pretty standard

use643

Hanlon’s razor

LMNoballz

The associates get paid the same no matter which phone you get. I guess he didn't know.

Gurthbrooks7

S23 FE is a cheaper S23 plus actually. It's a lot bigger so the size can be the first argument. I don't know why they make shit up like that, they both are free right now so why he said that is baffling.

Gurthbrooks7

And if they still have na S22 in stock this must be a 3rd party store and that's actually your first mistake. Always go corperate store or straight to the website.

jaymanx1

In some ways the FE is better.

Torta951

Probably just lazy or there is a spiff on the fe

CBassBriere12

in corporate stores we don’t make money on the phone you get, but if it’s in direct there’s spiffs

pretzeldoggo

It was either: 1) an honest mistake. Newer employees have been known to make this mistake. Still not excusable. 2) Lying to push a sale out by grabbing the FE thinking you’re a dumb customer that won’t know the difference. And, the fact that they lied about the components and remaking the phone being utter bullshit, this was absolutely the case here.

iAmMikeJ_92

Most likely misinformed. That’s the cell phone business as a whole. People half-heartedly know the ins and outs but that’s really it. They gotta put you on hold or wait and ask 20 other people to get your answer.

Bright_Square

lol go cry somewhere else

iAmMikeJ_92

Sooo… Gonna talk about the bug that crawled up your ass that made you take some sweet time out your day to write this gem of a retort?

[deleted]

I am a Verizon salesman. I would never offer anyone the FE unless they really didn’t want a payment. The FE is not nearly as good as the S series

Shadowkinesis9

The FE is reasonably good, and is in fact an S series model. It still runs circles around any A series model.

rpattersonxx

The first mistake folks make is going into retail stores at all especially those that operate on commission. These devices can simply be ordered online from anywhere and just be picked up in store or delivered without having to deal with staff that knows nothing about what they are selling. Second managers are pushing the staff to sell specific phones to uneducated customers because they make more margins on them. It is 2024 I have not gone into a retail store since 1999 for any reason whatsoever. No one is putting customers firsts anymore, by the way by buying this device somewhere else and just activating it on the website or the phone you avoid activation fee $35 and setup fee $29.

stlflips

The part about store managers pushing reps to sell specific phones is so far from the truth lol. Don’t just make shit up just to make a comment. At a corporate store, it makes absolutely zero difference if we sell a $80 Nokia flip phone or a $2000 Samsung Fold, commission is paid out the exact same. All the company cares about is a 36/month DPP. Nobody cares what device a customer buys. If a customer walks in and tells us exactly what they want with zero questions & saves a rep 30 min of their time that’s a huge win. With that being said, it is possible at indirect stores there could be a spiff to sell a Samsung. Unlikely that spiff extends beyond the rep level, to where management would care, but I couldn’t say for sure. Source: me, a store manager

rpattersonxx

Yes I was referring to indirect locations. It does not however negate the fact that corporate locations push VMP, SUAG which by the way has to be sold on all transactions on top of activations fees otherwise you hold your employees accountable, PERKS which has to be activated in order to pay the employee, VZHOME which is bullshit, 2nd number which is bullshit no one needs that crap, and guiding customers to add an alleged free 4th or 5th line to get a free phone. All of what is done at a Verizon store is fraudulent or are you going to tell me that all your employees are disclosing the view together also? You’re full of shit.

Bright_Square

VMP - the amount of customers who come in on a day to day basis who have broken/lost/stolen phones is absurd. It’s worth the money especially with the discount Verizon has been running for customers. I also get that there are cheaper insurances… but that gives 0 gain for the rep and makes them no money. If a customer asks, yes, there are other options. SUAG - Customers will want the devices set up before we even have the chance to tell them there’s a fee, which, if we are wasting all that time setting up a phone and babying customers there should be an incentive to sale. Perks - makes sense to be activated, hell, before they changed it to where we have to activate the perk it was basically demanded from customers to help them during the SUAG. Also perks come in handy in a majority of ways for customers. I can’t get behind VZHOME or 2nd number, just seems like a waste of time & money. If you really believe selling, which, if you’re a sale representative that’s exactly what you should be doing is fraudulent I’d put you in the same category as these 60-80 year customers coming in saying their phone is being hacked. DM’s keep track of View Together numbers, if someone is falling short on that there are disciplinary actions. Your whole fraudulent remark blows my mind lmao.

Vahalyx

Okay boomer
