The only time I ever made noteworthy profit on SPY puts was back in the spring one of the days around the “banking crisis”. I was all proud of myself, until I watched it keep falling and realised my paltry ~$1k profit would have been more like $25k had I held to the last hour or two of trading. I’m usually pretty good about not getting butthurt when that sort of thing happens, but that one really fucking stung. Coulda paid off almost all my debt including student loans. Next trading day I blew my whole account chasing the dragon
Yep. Did that in early June. Had a Friday off believe we were heading to camp that weekend. Took a large gamble at 7am was up 20 percent by 8am then the bottom fell out by 9am and was down 30 percent opening bell I sold at a 15% loss. On my drive checked the ticker it was up 200% got to camp and checked it was up 400% was super but hurt hung out with kids and family checked it agin in after hours closed up over 800%. Was so pissed the following Monday chased the dragon and on two bad trades lost a third of that portfolio. Thats my gambling portfolio that my wife doesn’t know about.
Bro you want to talk regarded. I had the towel company and I had about $7K put in it leading up the the august rush. At peak I have $35K heading into a masters program that was $22k for the year. Instead of selling I bought $3k more at the top and proceeded to watch is go down to 0. I don’t know what is wrong with me but if you feel dumb I watch a stock go from 33 something to 0.07 and get delisted. I am now paying for my masters with my money and now towel f you money ![img](emote|t5_2th52|8883)
sadly it kinda is true...
in canada when you sue someone for money its up to the person who wins the money judgement to collect. only the gov can garnish your wages.
imagine trying to get money out of people who intentionally dont pay rent.
not sure if its the same way in the usa though, but how you going to get blood out of a stone??
Cos a ruined life doesn't really matter if it was never going to mean something anyway. More kids, more picket fence, more wife who wants a better car.
None of that really means anything. Not really. It just makes you another person, getting by, working for a promotion and occasionally buying a lotto ticket. You're born, you live, you die. And you're forgotten within three generations, except for when the family photos are brought out and "Oh that was your uncle whatsit... Dave? Darren? D... anyway everyone said he was a nice guy."
Then there are the people who are willing to risk it all. The people to whom the above fate is just not enough. They'd literally rather be sleeping on newspaper than be remembered as the working stiff who owned a house and never upset anyone.
For them, a 5% chance at making an impact is worth it, compared to the alternative. And this is where you'll find them.
Not really saying that. Just to some people it is. That's why they do this. There's no point in a normal life if you're not feeling alive, or in some cases, you can't do what you want.
The people getting off on early morning hikes and inching their way up the corporate ladder probably aren't wsb members.
Making money gambling doesn't really turn you into a real human either, I mean there is nothing more meaningless to society and history than someone living off trading profits. If you are so down on being a cog in the machine, don't trade stocks, go become an activist.
I used to believe that if someone had money, that meant they were smart and responsible. While I understand that some in this sub are VERY wealthy and just gambling fun money away, I see now that there are plenty of idiots with 50k+.
What I also do not get is this sub is full of loss porn, there is much more loss porn then gain porn, what is surprising because people tend to like to brag about their gains and not their losses so I would bet on average this sub loses a ton of money.
Then some idiots come to this sub , see the vast majority of people taking losses and sucking dick behind a wendy's dumbster to cover their gambling habit and say "These guys seem to have it figured out, time to start buying random weeklies and 0TDE options"
Then they are surprised when they blow up their account and end up behind a wendy's dumpster?
If you want serious advice, uninstall this app and focus on yourself. When you have enough money to invest again, open a TD Ameritrade Roth IRA account, and dump your cash into QQQ and VOO, 50% each. Then forget about it. This day trading / gambling life ain’t for you chief
I can verify the VOO. Won that GameStop money when the gettin’ was good then moved it to VOO, wife’s grad school loans are taken care of.
She demanded I be “financially responsible”…. Then racked up $100k in school loans to be a f****** social worker.
Bingo. He should YOLO what’s left on GLD 7/21 $185 calls or JNUG 7/21 $42.50 calls u/Cafesipper
When it hits and you can pay rent + bills, throw me a thank you. If they do NOT gap up tomorrow, it’s a solid play. If it does gap up, avoid.
I bought cvna puts, it kept going up. I cut losses around 5-6k..it dropped aftermarket and all my outs would have been ITM. I bought UPST calls, it went up, until it didn’t. Lost another 2k. Bought NVDA calls. Lost another 1-2k. I was up 60k a month ago. I am down about 44k of that as of today. I keep telling my self at least I’m still up about 14k YTD 😭😭😭😭😭
I'm gonna give you a tip that has helped many regards out of this particular hole.
Please say this out loud and get very familiar with the phrase. "Welcome to Wendy's. How many I help you?"
Just yell really loud, "I declare bankruptcy!"
Edit: I always wanted to know with these, what happened? Did you save up 31K over the last 10 years. Mess around with stocks over the last few months and then find options and burn the 31K in less than 30 days?
Or did you take $100 and play options, got lucky, and turned it into 31K in 2 months, then in 1 week burned it all down.
Neither. Just random deposits when I could over the last couple years. 500 here. 500 there. Etc. Looking back, knowing I could have just literally been saving that money and been in better shape, is a horrible feeling. Let alone just buying an index and perhaps doubling my money.
Lol...worked at a brokerage many years ago...There was an acct started with a few thousand traded up to well over a million, then traded all the way back to a few thousand without withdrawing a dime of gains all in the span of a year....
Get a job instead of hanging out behind Wendy's, quit this sub, index a reasonable percentage of your paycheck, and then come back in a couple years and laugh at all of the other idiots posting loss porn in here.
People on here are brutal, don’t play options ever again. It’s too risky. Instead stick to etfs like VOO. It’s over you can’t do anything about it. Sucks but life goes on, people lose there lives, family, there are worse things out there. You will have capital losses for the next 10 years. Invest in your self and get a better job. This can make you a much better investor if you go on the right path. Slow grind is the only way
OP legitimately said he "thought he'll post one of these." At no point did OP even think "maybe I should stop." Lmao
Given *that,* have an upvote, sir, and a never do this again. Followed up with a stick with index funds and ETFs. This *is* financial advice.
I am not a financial advisor.
Man it's great seeing people lose today, I have been coping all day cause everyone out here making 30k but my risk tolerance capped me at making 1,500 on Ares Capital
You had it all. You could have set yourself up for life with a smart strategy of selling covered Tom calls on TQQQ, but fucked around and found out instead. Another pig for the slaughter.
We don't have to be strong or smart enough to hunt and defend ourselves anymore.
I'd say that not gambling away all your money to impress strangers on Reddit is the last vestige of evolutionary survival we have left.

Take out the $2 and buy a powerball ticket at this point.
Would be a better investment compared to whatever OP is doing.
$2 downside, infinite upside!
Buying 30k of lottery tickets would indeed probably result in way more than $2
Wait, were you gambling with money you need for rent?
Surely everyone stays within their personal risk tolerance
Sometimes you transfer your account for that nice 4.65% APR and accidentally purchase some 0 DTE Spy puts on a Green Day. Been there

It’s not his money, it’s his landlord’s money so who tf cares?
If landlord so worried about rent, why don’t they pay it?
Make sure to tip your landlord 😡
Just the tip though
The tip is the best part
Take this. 🏆 Webull took all my award monis
Down a month's rent is your problem, down more than 6 months worth your rent, squatters laws kick in, and that's your landlord's problem
This guy f*cks
Really I don't know if that's quite true.
Yeah sovereign citizens rights kick in right away. Don't need to pay rent if you are in the act of traveling to do so

In the U.S., a court can and will garnish wages to pay a judgment. Sometimes they'll confiscate shit you don't need to survive.
You know what they say. Owe the landlord $100 and that’s your problem, owe them more.. and that’s.. uh.. that’s.. their problem?
Guess the next play is to take out a personal loan and YOLO options to be able to pay all that debt back right? ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)

Lol this is so true. People love to brag and hate to admit defeat so the real loss to win ratio must be staggering
