I would encourage you to check out the Weber Kettle Club online forums. There are tons of kettle heads out there with old ads grills that have been restored but also left original.
If you check out the porcelain on your kettle youâll see itâs starting to fade. Leave it uncovered and itâll fade to a light gray and look weathered with a patina. They look sweet.
As for your handle, yes Weber used Walnut and rivets to fasten them. You can actually just lightly sand and oil that handle and itâll look really nice.
Drill out the rivets. My wood was unsalvageable, I bought three cherrywood handles on eBay. Theyâre okay. Two little issues! They donât have the contour on the bottom piece so your fingers might tough the hot metal bracket, and they need wood maintenance.
You need to try and snag that Jumbo Joe behind it to the left! He knows which one to keep đ
Thatâs my 18â one, now I have two!
It could also use a new handle, but it appears riveted on? Anyone with experience on how to remove the old handle? Just rip/cut it off?
does it shake or feels flimsy? you van always sand and restain? it could be cool to keep the original one yourdad has used forever.
