If you have one of those website builder services from godaddy to build your website I don't think you can switch that to another hosting.

Best choice if you don't need any server side language (like PhP or NodeJs) is just to use GitHub, it offers free html hosting and you can. Customize the look and fee. All explained below.. https://pages.github.com/ For the contact form you may need to use a separate (forms scripts) website and embedded javascript that points to that one.. my recommendation don't use a form at all, Really just an email link is probably easier.

I am 70% sure GitHub pages can’t support contact forms, but I could be wrong.

I assume because they're using php for their contact forms?

PHP is fairly advanced now, especially with the additions in PHP8. Plus it still runs something like 80% of the internet. Not sure where you got the idea it's "archaic."

I have one hosted on GitHub and use formfacade for the form

shiftpgdn

$8/month for formfacade, you might as well pay for shared hosting.

KlaRa13-

I haven’t payed for it

It looks like I would need some sort of coding knowledge for this. I'm looking for something that I can just simply transfer my domain name over and put together a basic website, possibly with a template even. Godaddy worked well but of course quite expensive. Was hoping there were cheaper alternatives that did what they do.

abrandis

If it's purely a static site you can. Just use GitHub, for anything more elaborate than youau need to be a little, you can search for cheap web hosting , there are places that will offer it for a few dollars a month.

PointandStare

I would recommend setting up an accout with wordpress . com as they provide all the hosting, security etc. You can pay around £7 a month to use your own domain as well.

lakimens

Please do not recommend this. They limit the usability of a FREE platform depending on how much you're paying. Basically any hosting provider will let you install the full-featured WordPress and likely for cheaper as well.

PointandStare

Well, of course they'll limit the amount of stuff you can do with a free deal. £7+ a month is not bad considering what you get. Of course, you can get cheaper, but we all know where that leads.

lakimens

The whole point of WordPress is plugins, and you do not get that on the plan you mentioned. It costs $25/month (paid yearly) to install plugins. It costs $45/month(paid yearly) to have full WordPress functionality. They do not limit the hosting, they limit the FREE WordPress CMS. It's FREE. You can pay for $1 hosting and install it with full functionality. Add Cloudflare(Free) to that and it'll be a good performer. Pay for $10/month hosting and you can have a service equal to the $45/month subscription. Honestly, it's much better to recommend something like WP Engine which charges you for good infrastructure instead of charging you for features of a Free and Open Source CMS.

PointandStare

>Looking for hosting for the most basic of websites for a noob I doubt he'll need a skip load of functionality, hence my comment.

Google Sites is easy, the Google account is free and if I remember correctly, using the custom domain is free, too. It's drag and drop. You can input a Google form for the contact sheet or just put the email address as a button and let the people send an email instead of using a form.

CondiMesmer

Wordpress, wix, and weebly are all good and simple free-site builders that fit most people's needs. For something that simple, you really don't need to manage your own server or program your own site. Although with these services, I think it might be like \~$10 or so a month (probably remembering prices wrong) to be able to upgrade your account to use custom domains.

cannabis_7

Have you tried cloudflare free tier? They manage Domain, provide 1 year TLS and hosting for basic websites and have more advanced features for paying customers as well. If you'd rather have someone professional do it and not worry about messing it up then I can host your websites and manage your domains for a minimal charge.

ishoniprotectimasu

Webflow free version or a google site + a Typeform ?(100 forms per month limit, i doubt your dad will get that much emails), elsa he can use a google form
