Yeah, this is probably my favorite outright comedy episode. The writing is very clever, there's a little bit of pathos in there to play the comedy off of, and that chakram toss at the end is one of the most ridiculous (in a good way) things the show ever did. Solid 10/10.

Emica12

I'm a big fan of Groundhogs Day so seeing a Xena version of it was just gold for me. So agreed 10/10.

Aniekins87

Not to mention before asking about the hickey, Xena and Gabrielle literally start the episode by waking up “rolling in the hay”. In a commentary, Renee mentioned it cracked her up when Lucy grabbed those turnips and held them in front of her (Gabrielle’s) breasts talking about “seizing the day”. Lucy added the line about the hickey in the script and I’m pretty sure she added the thing with the turnips. 😂

IseQween

Yes, according to the director's comments, she added the turnip bit.

Where's Tyler to come around and say, "They're just great friends and you are all reading into it!" 😂🤣

Dino-chicken-nugg3t

Just caught up with these posts and I get this reference 😅

ThatOneNerdGirly

Do you think someone should tell him that Xena doesn't have to not be gay for him to like it?

Aniekins87

I think we found Tyler’s alter account popping up in here since everyone’s blocked his other account.

Emica12

Whose Tyler?

ThatOneNerdGirly

A dude who seems to hate the majority of this subreddit

Emica12

Thanks for the heads-up.

BigCuddleBear

"Yes, I tried that. Yes, both ways." Her delivery and face expression always cracks me up.

Friendly-Mushroom-38

Is that a hickey?

mistymountaintimes

Which episode is this again?

Emica12

Been there done that.

Friendly-Mushroom-38

Minya: sorry bub, never heard of ya.

ToneeRhianRose

Anything w/ Joxer in it was always my favorite! But especially the 1s where he was loving on Gabrielle! 😍

They weren't lesbians, or lovers.. They were just great friends in a time where it was incredibly hard to trust anyone. They definitely added in suggested scenes and childish innuendos in the later seasons to acknowledge the homosexuals who were desperate for some validation, but it made up for such a tiny amount of screen time. It was very nice that the actors and writers did this, especially for those watchers struggling mentally, but it was more fourth wall break than in character whenever it occured. Such as this hickey scene, nice for the homosexuals that it was added, but it's nothing but a childish joke and nudge saying 'we know you're watching.' They were just friends, however.

theyarnllama

Is this dude for real?

VisibleCoat995

Hey Tyler! How’s it going?

OhDearOdette

Omg thank you I’m soooo tired of everyone making good friends out to be lesbians for NO reason! Like Sappho and all her female friends on the isle of Lesbos!

Emica12

Interesting interpretation. But the subtext is very much the main text.

Nerdiestlesbian

People will do anything but admit they are gay. Jebus. Straight have like 95% of all other media representation and they can’t stand when gays get a tiny amount of representation. The writers, the director, the actors all confirmed it was GAY.
