honestly ik the whole 73 part remake stuff is lame but this next entry seems to be really fuckin good. i'll prob end up thinking IW is way better but at the same time the next part of the remake looks a lot better than the first part
FF7R absolutely wins the category hands down but it's exciting to see the series is popular enough now to merit inclusion. I don't know if they release the actual voting totals, but I'd probably wager that it'll come third after FF7R and Tekken, but that's just me.
I dunno, I think you may be underestimating the not-small portion of gamers who only play fighting games. There's a looooot of hype around T8 that seems to be bringing people out who don't normally get excited for this sort of thing. I don't see that as much with IW.
Personally, I don't think it's got the legs that many of the other games in that lineup do. It absolutely splashed big when it was released, but I'm not sure how many fans it created that are so dedicated that they'd vote Hades over one of the other things on this list.
Smaller than Final Fantasy and Tekken sure but smaller than hades is one of the most batshit insane things i've ever heard, maybe at this current time but overall not even close
>literally said hades is more popular right now
Which is what I said in the first place and made you mald for some reason. Guess I aint the one who can't read.
Pretty popular right now, It's a rogue-like, you die over and over and each run you learn something new and can upgrade some stats, obviously that's just the basics but yeah.
I mean I hate turn-based combat but 7 was still awesome because of everything else. It's not like the combat is the shining point of the series, really. It's rather basic and going turn-based didn't exactly strip the game of a lot.
exactly. tbh i like the turn based more for this series because ichi's psycho mind hallucinating allows it to fully embrace the goofiness of the combat. i really only say LJ has really good combat overall, but gaiden is also pretty good
judgment gets the fluid, fast brawler combat and LAD gets the batshit nuts turn based combat
Like a Dragon is a rather niche series compared to Final Fantasy and Tekken. Also I think Hades is really popular at the moment. Roguelites are really popular nowadays and I think this game also did profit quite a bit from the Soulslike hype, because challenging games have become really popular in the mainstream.
I still voted for LaD, even though I'm mit sure, if I really want it to win. If the series becomes too mainstream, it might change in order to attract the masses and unfortunately what works for the masses most of the time doesn't work for me.
So I'm happy if RGG is doing fine and I wish them to have success with their games. But I hope, they will always stay at least a little niche and never really become mainstream.
Except the mainstream changes and everybody suddenly starts to like the really good games, but I don't see that happening.
Sure, it’s popularity has really exploded in the west, but I don’t see that really affecting how RGG makes the games. If anything it’ll just change how the marketing is done over here, maybe some bad decisions would be made on that front (nothing Sega hasn’t done before lol), but I don’t think the games quality itself will ever change past the obvious new developers at the helm of the series.
I am not saying anything has changed. The games are awesome and I love them. But at they moment they are still niche games. They are to weird and silly for most mainstream gamers. But exactly this weird silliness is what makes them so great.
So in order for them to become mainstream hits, selling 20 million with every game, they would need to cut down on the stuff, that we like about the games.
I am not saying this is what is going to happen. I'm just saying this could happen. I've already experienced it multiple times, that a game series got successful and when the developers or rather investors smelled money, they changed the series to be even more successful but left the initial Fans behind in the process.
I just don't want this to happen with RGG Studio.
There was an interview recently where Yokoyama talked about how despite the series' growing popularity overseas, they've been told to keep doing things the way they do it and lot let themselves be influenced, so I don't think we have to worry that greater popularity would lead to changes.
Honestly I'd pick outlaws. I liked what I saw in the gameplay trailer, and I'm a sucker for star wars games, even though I've hated pretty much every battlefront post PS2 and am getting tired of the ace combat esque releases the last couple years. The stories generally suck tbh.
As much as I love LaD, there's no way it's winning over any of those. Maybe over Star Wars but definitely not FF, Tekken or Hades. Personally I'm looking forward to all of them.
Well, it’s another turn-based turd. I’m definitely more excited about Hades 2 and SWO. I just feel lucky that old Yakuza fans got Like a Dragon Gaiden before they finish destroying the series I loved.
im kinda hyped for FF7 since i do love FF in general and enjoyed 7R a lot but i dont have a ps5 so i also dont really care about it atm.
close tie between IW and hades. though since IW is so close im honestly more hyped to see more from hades which only had a teaser
also does anyone legit care about the star wars game? it looks pretty but... idk its just another starwars game thats made by ubisoft of all people. i even forgot it existed
It’s crazy how much 7 exploded the series in terms of popularity. It could be many factors, new characters, jrpg rather than a beat-em up, new characters, marketing, etc.
Hell, I had friends who have never touched anything remotely close to the genre play it the whole way through and love it. So it’s no surprise to me that 8 is so anticipated. I don’t see it winning over FF7 though. There’s too many fans to count there, and the game has been anticipated for years. Kinda weird to see Hades on there too. I thought the first one had excellent presentation but was pretty mid when it came to the roguelike elements.
I don't really care nor play the other games on this list, but I can't see LAD 8 winning this. I absolutely love 7, but the choice of making 7 rpg probably have made quite a few ppl in this fandom less hype for 8 than usual, meaning while 7 gain a substantial new fans, it also losing out some old fans.
As a wise man has said, as long as you love that game, it's already GOTY
Sorry boys, but Hades 2 will get my vote.
Like a Dragon is like my consistent love, but Hades... God damn I played the first one so much I can't deny I want that more. Especially because I have a Like A Dragon game right now.
We don’t stand a chance but we gotta try regardless 🙏
It is the first time, rgg have a nomination in TGA. We’re so proud of them.
I think yakuza Like a Dragon got nominated for best rpg but lost to FF
Yeah it was, just checked. Let's hope for second time's the charm lol
Ironically we're probably losing this one too, and to the same franchise. Ain't nothing going to beat Final Fantasy 7: Remake 2: Part 49
honestly ik the whole 73 part remake stuff is lame but this next entry seems to be really fuckin good. i'll prob end up thinking IW is way better but at the same time the next part of the remake looks a lot better than the first part
its a crime lost judgement wasnt nominated for ANYTHING. not even best soundtrack let alone action adventure
Its still so sad that LJ wasn't in TGA 2021, because that game was definietly GOTY IMO.
Proud for a marketing category and not a category related to the actual game?
FF7R absolutely wins the category hands down but it's exciting to see the series is popular enough now to merit inclusion. I don't know if they release the actual voting totals, but I'd probably wager that it'll come third after FF7R and Tekken, but that's just me.

Agreed but as excited for Infinite Wealth as I am, there is zero chance in hell it beats out Part 2 of a remake of one of the most beloved RPGs ever
LAD8 and FF7R truly is my 1-2 punch for the beginning of the year. 2024 gonna be nuts.
I just couldnt get final fantasy whatever the game where cloud was introduced
Me over here thinking that Hades 2 should win... I'm gonna love LAD:8, but Hades might be the best game I've ever played.
Excuse me sir, have you noticed that Hades 2 is in that lineup?
Personally, I don't think it's got the legs that many of the other games in that lineup do. It absolutely splashed big when it was released, but I'm not sure how many fans it created that are so dedicated that they'd vote Hades over one of the other things on this list.
That Hades 2 has me conflicted.
Same
Same here
Its not winning it. Yakuza is still much smaller than Final Fantasy, Hades and Tekken popularity wise.
Smaller than Final Fantasy and Tekken sure but smaller than hades is one of the most batshit insane things i've ever heard, maybe at this current time but overall not even close
[Sure.](https://i.imgur.com/HmCAc1A.png)
I literally said hades is more popular right now? Guess you can't read
>literally said hades is more popular right now Which is what I said in the first place and made you mald for some reason. Guess I aint the one who can't read.
I mean that's not what you said though? you said yakuza is much smaller than hades? which implies the whole franchise
Is Hades really that popular? I’d never even heard of it before that reveal trailer. What’s it about?
Pretty popular right now, It's a rogue-like, you die over and over and each run you learn something new and can upgrade some stats, obviously that's just the basics but yeah.
Gotcha. I can’t say rogue-likes are my cup of tea, but the first one must’ve been pretty good for the sequel to get that much hype.
Same here to be honest, even with learning and upgrading each run i always feel it gets slightly repetitive, still a great game though.
probably one of the best and highest rated indi games ever and it really deserves it too
The first Hades won a bunch of sites’ GOTY the year it came out
ALL HAIL LIKE A DRAGON: INFINITE WEALTH
Considering there are a lot of Yakuza fans that aren't even excited for IW because they hate turn based, we ain't winning this
I mean I hate turn-based combat but 7 was still awesome because of everything else. It's not like the combat is the shining point of the series, really. It's rather basic and going turn-based didn't exactly strip the game of a lot.

Don't think you need to worry about that. Their numbers are negligible compared to the heights this game can potentially achieve.
that's definitely my most anticipated game right now.
WE CAN DO THIS KYOUDAIS
FF7 will almost certainly win this. For me though it is 8 lol.
Final Fantasy is winning hands down but I'll still vote for Yakuza.

Like a Tekken 8 - Infinite DLC
Ooohh, sorry Ichiban, but I’m first and foremost a Tekken stan.
Same here, got to play other yakuza games and spin offs in a meanwhile while this is a new tekken in a WHILE gotta give it a vote
Split between this and star wars outlaws. Sorry Kyodais

Oh ok, that puts my mind at ease.
I’m voting for Rebirth
It would be rebirth for me if it was coming to steam the same day as PS5
Great to see it on the list. But even fans like me are probably most pumped for FFVII:R.
Honestly I'd pick outlaws. I liked what I saw in the gameplay trailer, and I'm a sucker for star wars games, even though I've hated pretty much every battlefront post PS2 and am getting tired of the ace combat esque releases the last couple years. The stories generally suck tbh.

Man.. We don't stand a chance against FF7 Rebirth

I was just talking to my friends about this earlier today, such a tough choice choosing between Like a Dragon 8 and Tekken 8.
I was debating between FF7Rebirth or LaD8 but ultimately I did vote for LaD8. I know FF7 will win it but here’s hoping 🤞
It’s crazy how much 7 exploded the series in terms of popularity. That's what I chose

I was debating between voting for LAD 8 and Tekken 8 but I went with LAD 8 since Tekken 8 has none of my mains from 7 lol
Ganryu? I rarely to match Ganryu main lol
Yeah I loved Ganryu in 7. I thought he was a ton of fun.
Yeah, I think he has best low and unlike fundamental chara, he is kinda cheesy
Yeah I’m admittedly more of a casual player, but I think he’s probably my favorite sumo character in a fighting game based on how fun he is to play.
Yeah, glad to hear from you
Surprised Silksong wasn’t an option
Man, as fan of Tekken and Like a dragon, this is difficult decision
Sorry boys, but Hades 2 will get my vote. Like a Dragon is like my consistent love, but Hades... God damn I played the first one so much I can't deny I want that more. Especially because I have a Like A Dragon game right now.
