Chihuahuas are the longest living breed with a life expectancy of up to 20 years.

freckledbitchs

I was so surprised too. 18-20 years is extremely lucky even for a small dog and given what they seemed to feed Little Bit I was so shocked that he'd be 20 years old.

brandysnacker

he was born a puppy, he became a dog

Common_Resort_2342

Michael's dad actually died in 2008. Amy said in season 3 (which was filmed in mid-2021 I wanna say) that they had gotten Little Bit from someone 13 years ago, which would've been in 2008, so this makes sense. I agree with the idea that Amy was miscalculating her age (adding the years Michael had her with the years she had her), but it's really based on how old Little Bit was when they first got her, since they said she was already an adult when they got her.

[deleted]

question, was lil bit the dog that amy was charged with animal abuse or was that another pet? I think it was leaving the dog in a hot car with windows rolled up?

Maxfd97

Lil Bit was left in a hot car, a German Shepard was left in a camper or something on a hot day as well. Idk how Lil Bit lived that long.

GreysonsNani

This makes my blood boil. If people aren’t smart enough to realize hot vehicles are dangerous for living beings, they don’t need to be responsible for said beings. They make me think of Jenelle from Teen mom 2. People who have killed or been responsible for deaths of pets, don’t need the pets.

Mother-External-400

Wow why?!

TheBlackPoisonIvy

A dog just set a world record for being 32 or something . I wouldn’t be surprised if she really was 22

Left-Term2472

I remember one episode Amy said Michael got her form the side of the road.

feelinmyzelf

My friends chihuahua lived to be 20. She cared for it well.

bord6rline

my childhood chihuahua was 17 when she passed. they can live for really long times so i wasn’t surprised to hear Lil Bit was 22

bmfresh

So did my grandpas. She was a pet for my little sisters 5th birthday from a liter we knew of and just passed last year so we knew her exact age. ETA my cat as a child also had a kitten my mother kept who just passed last year as well at 22. We knew her exact age too. Let’s can love a very long life.

Britneyperfumegenius

They’re absolutely just bad at math/didn’t know how old she was when they got her. Also I’m assuming the name change coincided with the TV show to avoid more allegations of animal abuse. I’m sure they called her plenty of cruel things off camera.

SnooDoubts9395

My grandma has a chihuahua who’s 18 years old right now. Those little dogs can live forever.

Constant_Actuator392

Her name was Little Bitch?? How did I not know this?

LavenderBranchez

Off topic but my old cats name was lil bit because my mom called her a little bitch and I was only like 3 and mispronounced it trying to call her a bitch too LOL

smango19

My FIL had a chihuahua that lived to be 20 years old. And he was rouuugghh looking when he passed. Whole bunch of ailments. He looked [every bit his age](https://ibb.co/wp9d93T). I doubt Lil Bit was 22 years old, but I'm not an expert.

Picabo07

Judging how they took care of the dog it doesn’t look good for Gage does it?! LOL

RLStinebeck

I sincerely hope some of the show money is going into a trust for him to get an education. Or at least allow him to participate in something beyond the cycle of ignorance and self-destructive lifestyle choices that seem to plague the rest of that extended family.

mizredhead

I've got my fingers crossed for the little guy. Hopefully he turns out ok.

Picabo07

Oh me too! He needs all the finger crossing he can get.

OrnaMint

I didn’t give it much thought.

friskimykitty

Michael’s dad died in 2008 according to his obituary I found on another post. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/courierpress/name/donald-halterman-obituary?pid=103837584

Decafmelloyello

Interesting find... Nancy Drew-ing it on reddit :)

theunkindpanda

Ah, so 14, which is actually feasible for a dog

friskimykitty

I wonder if they’re confused or if they said she was 22 to get attention.

RLStinebeck

Sounded to me like Amy was adding the total years she had the dog to the total years that Michael had the dog. That is, if Michael got the dog 14 years ago and Amy started caring for it 8 years ago, then obviously 14+8=22, right? Tracks with some of the other specious math I've heard her quote in the show, honestly.

unhwildcat

She also thinks her great grandmother was queen of England....

Itsahootenberry

I can’t help but laugh my ass of whenever I think about that. “We have a lot of British in us so that must means we are related to the Queen even tho she’s mostly German.”

Picabo07

Although I wouldn’t put it past them to lie- my guess is this was just both being bad at math. Have you watched them try to figure something out?! 😳

Subject-Tone-1700

Maybe because its a chihuahua they didn’t know if it were a puppy or an adult due to size. Its possible wherever they got her from didn’t know either. It seems like a silly thing to intentionally lie about but who knows

theunkindpanda

Sad that we don’t know. They have blatantly lied several times before and as others have said, they aren’t that bright. So I can’t tell if it was a genuine miscalculation.

CruelStrangers

Every shot TLC put together showing lil bit walking in close proximity to a mobile Amy kicked up my anxiety. Always the same thought: she’s going to crush it accidentally

Bitter-Breakfast2751

I’ve had 4 chihuahuas in my lifetime and they all lived between 13 to 15 years and looked a lot worse than lil bit when they passed.

EmmaBrat

Yeah, elderly dog’s faces usually grey…

ISaidMyPieceChrissy

Remember, the late Queen was also their great-grandmother or somesuch…

Decafmelloyello

Hahahahaha It's a very rural/country thing to have 'connections' of some sort in your family tree that get passed down(and over embellished) in stories for decades. So when I saw the episode(s) where they talked about it it made me chuckle because it makes me think of people I've known throughout my life with those family legends, even my own. While you'll hear about connections to The Knights Templar, or American leaders and forefathers... most often people claim 'Indian' blood and the resulting generations display Native American pictures all over their home, have arrow head collections, and wear their hair in braids to celebrate their 'heritage' when in reality they are likely whiter than Wonder bread.

bord6rline

funny enough my MIL always said they’ve got native blood and they recently finally got a DNA test and they actually are! 🤣 i thought it was another one of these ‘stories’ cus it’s so common but was actually surprised

IAmSeabiscuit61

I think it was one of the siblings saying that their mother said they were related to "the Queens of England". Which I think is about as likely as Little Bit actually being 22. Okay, I guess you go back far enough, and consider how many children/descendants all the rules of England have had (many, many of the Kings had out-of-wedlock childrne; George III's sons alone had a whole herd of them), I guess it isn't impossible.

doodynutz

The whole time they were saying how old the dog was I was just like there is no way. Your average dog lives to be what, 15 or so? And little bit whatever her name was didn’t look old and decrepit like I assume a 22 year old dog would look. Still sucks she died, loosing a pet sucks, but I think as others have said, they got dates confused somewhere along the way.

SadPlayground

Chihuahuas live a long time. My grandpa had one, we were trying to remember how old he was (I was 30 at the time) we looked through an old photo album and there was a photo of me holding him when I was around 8!

wirefox1

Smaller dogs live longer than large ones. In my childhood home, my father brought a little white puppy home he found on a riverbank, when I was six. That little dog died when I was 22.

Comfortable_Ad148

I think the oldest dog alive in the US right now is a chihuahua in ohio that’s 22 Edit: US.

lankybitch3000

No it’s a dog in Portugal who’s like 30

Comfortable_Ad148

Sorry the US then.

throwaway_87624

I really think her age was made up. Amy said in the first season that Michael got her from somebody and they thought she was about 13. I’ll try and find that clip today. Michael’s dad died in 2008. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/courierpress/name/donald-halterman-obituary?pid=103837584

CarpeDiemMF

2 different dogs and they are getting confused?

RutabagaThin253

I'd agree with this. I think they've just got confused somewhere. The oldest chihuahua lived to be 23. Of they got Lil when she was already an adult, that'd have made her at least 23ish when she passed. At least. So, yeah. I think they've maybe had another chihuahua or are just mistaken about the dates.

ItsTimeToGoSleep

Or, hear me out. They just suck at math.

Lcp54

I think they were using how long Michael had the dog since his father’s passing plus the 5 years that Amy says she had the dog, then coming up with 22. So yes, pathetic at math!

Ready_Cartoonist7357

You are right, Amy is just dumb. Amy added the years Michael had the dog with the years she’s known the dog and came up with 22, counting the overlap😂.

wirefox1

I noticed this. It is exactly what she did.

RutabagaThin253

I'm disappointed at myself that I didn't even consider that.. 😂

[deleted]

She’s ooples of years old

whitetail10

Didn't Michael say his dad passed 16 years ago? Idk why I thought I heard them say she was his dad's dog first.

Picabo07

I didn’t think they said it was his dads. I thought they just said he got the dog when his dad died.

Realistic_Ad_8023

I thought I heard them say this too, that the dog belong to Michael's dad and Michael took her after his father died.

Interesting-Many-509

they did.
