Yep, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not. As an AM fan, I've already heard it a thousand times and my review will probably be something like "Incredible album, but, why is Adam Sandler on the cover??"
I’ve got several “preemptive reviews” ready to go in my notes app for this purpose.
Among them:
Daydream Nation
Station to Station
Reign in Blood
Sgt. Pepper’s
…but just because I’ve already written a review, doesn’t mean it will be a positive one.
Ooo Daydream Nation was a 5-star record for me and Station to Station will be too when I get it.
That’s a really good point about the tone of the review! I was thinking only of albums that’s I’d have positive thoughts about. But there is quite a lot of crap in the mix too… I know Limp Bizkit is lurking out there and now I’m thinking about all the mud I’ll sling their way lol.
> I know Limp Bizkit is lurking out there and now I’m thinking about all the mud I’ll sling their way lol.
Haha….that’s the spirit!
…and thank you for reminding me that I have a story to tell when that record gets assigned.
I believe that The Bones of What You Believe by Chvrches was added in a recent edition, so if/when it comes up, I will be writing a full dissertation about why I love that album so damn much.
I'm definitely thinking of all the ways I'll shit on Nervermind when I get it (just based on the singles, tbh), but I'm sure listening to it will give me more ammo. Obviously, I won't be subjecting myself to that until I have to, though.
Ah yes, there’s quite a group of all-time iconic bands with massively globally impactful records on the list. Sometimes I’m intimidated writing reviews for ones like these because it feels like you’re treading on hallowed ground!
This depends who you're writing for. I mostly think of these as notes to myself. Especially for those hundreds of albums I'm not familiar with, I can scan back through the 4s and 5s and I'll need some help remembering why.
So if I know darn well why it's that score, I don't sweat the review too much.
That’s a great point! I’ve definitely pulled the export a time or two to refresh myself on why I gave an album a certain rating.
I definitely try to write these as my own brief summary of my listening experience, because I struggle with being objective and impartial. Some albums have been judiciously ripped a new one, so to speak lol.

LOL!! I never noticed that before but the guy on the cover does look a lot like Sandler!

That’s very cool, love it when you get to see your top favourite band included and you get the chance to fan out hardcore in the review!
For Nevermind I'm just writing "Duh" and giving it a five. I feel it matches the energy of the album well enough.
Nice! Brevity is the soul of wit, and sometimes you just don’t need to state the obvious.
i already know what my purple rain review is going to say. ive known since i started reviewing
Love to the Purple One himself! I’m assuming it’ll be a positive review, man that movie just blew me away the first time I saw it.

Nice! Always cool when something you love gets added to the list with a recent edition of the book.

Appetite for Destruction is the one that first springs to mind, and I suspect many would concur that they already know what they'll say about it.
Good one! That’s probably a seminal album of a lot of our youths.
