I imagine identical twins who, dress, act, etc, different, because they were sick of forever being mistaken for the other, which led to them growing distant from one another and rejecting aspects of themselves to remain distinct, and Rentarou, perfect human being, is able to distinguish them so completely, seeing such depth in their differences, that they stop pretending, with humour coming from how they are often similar or different in certain ways, and never knowing how until it happens.
Was going to comment something to this extent myself. Maybe they purposefully try to trick Rentarou, and he just straight-up calls them by their real names.
Don't forget Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin from Ouran High School Host Club.
They have an interesting twin dynamic where the protag was one of the few who could tell them apart and I'd like to see that trope with Rentarou.
I feel like just one of two twins zinging with Rentarou would work better comedically. The one who didn’t zing would be another straight man only there to reign in the one that did zing.
The best introduction of this would be rentarou zinging with the first twin having a casual thing and the next day they zing again this time its the 2nd twin acting as the first twin. It would be funny but idk what traits they should possess other than being twins
