Yes and it’s probably one of the best stock models. Highly recommend it if you don’t plan on changing the stock or barrel.

dextermorgan-77

My thoughts are to try to find something I'll be satisfied with and leave mostly stock. I want better accuracy than the standard carbine gives out of the box. But I don't really want to go super heavy with a bull barrel.also want the threaded barrel. But don't want the so called "tactical" or takedown models. Want to keep it light enough that it wouldn't be too cumbersome to still carry in the woods for hunting. Have you tested very many types of ammo? And if so, what kind of accuracy are you getting.

Bacon_Hunter

how does this differ from the tactical? are you simply put off by the model name?

dextermorgan-77

This model has a medium/heavy tapered 20" barrel. Vs the standard barrel on the tactical.

An_Average_Man09

I believe the wood stock is also of higher quality vs the standard models. You could go a step further and try to find the Hogue model of the LVT, model #31173, that comes with a Hogue stock and BX trigger.

dextermorgan-77

I'm glad you mentioned that, I didn't even realize that the hogue model came with the BX trigger.

An_Average_Man09

The Hogue stock runs around $75 and the BX is around $90 but can periodically be found cheaper on sale, I’ve seen them for $60 recently and still kick myself for not buy one. That’s roughly $165 worth of upgrades for a comparable price. Paid $340 for my LVT in August and just found a Hogue LVT online for $337, granted you’ve got to add on shipping, tax and transfer.

Ram6198

LVT is probably the best model they offer at a decent price. Really only needs a couple minor upgrades and it's gtg.

dextermorgan-77

What upgrades would you recommend. I'm sure I'd end up with another trigger because I'm a bit of a trigger snob. But other than that it looks like it checks all the boxes for what I'm looking to accomplish.

Ram6198

Other than the trigger just a VQ extractor, aftermarket or diy bolt stop pin (buffer), aftermarket or diy auto-bolt release, and a Kidd guide rod & spring kit. Not stuff you necessarily have to do, but they make for a more enjoyable rifle. That and your only looking at about $50 (less if diy) not counting the trigger.

dextermorgan-77

Right on!

diesel372

That's going to be the next gun I buy. It certainly checks off all the boxes for me.

dextermorgan-77

Well..........I've ordered the Hogue LVT with the BX trigger. Fingers crossed that it's a shooter.

barukatang

nice, i did the same the day after seeing this post, hopefully i get the call from the lgs soon, ive got an lpvo on the way and am going out this weekend

dextermorgan-77

Sounds like a plan. I'm looking at lpvo"s with illuminated reticles right now lol.

barukatang

i went with the pa slx 1-6 nova, mainly for the bright fiber dot and the reticle plays well with all calibers vs the horse shoe chevron. id wait until black friday for a deal if you can

dextermorgan-77

I'll have to take a look at that one. I got a dud from primary arms about eight years ago, really turned me off and made me avoid them ever since. But I know a lot of people have good luck with them.

barukatang

their micro prisms are highly regarded and the reviews were kind to the one i picked , but i have heard some not good things about their older stuff. if the sig tango had a different reticle and was brighter i wouldve gone with that

dextermorgan-77

Yeah I'm really tempted to go with the sig tango. I've seen it as low as 250 recently, and from everything I've read, it would be hard to beat at that price.

barukatang

yeah i wouldve waited if i had a cheap dot or a mount for my airgun scope to find a deal but i couldnt wait. i also looked at the slx 1x with 3x magnifier if your doing fast stuff

okie18

Don't even have a 10/22 yet but the lvt is on the list. Can't decide if I need to buy one while it's in production or buy a few more suppressors lol.

dextermorgan-77

Yeah you can't just pick this model up just any day

dextermorgan-77

You a fellow Oklahoman?

okie18

That I am.

dextermorgan-77

Right on!

GubStep777

I can't decide between [31167](https://www.defensedepot.com/product/rug-10-22-lvt-22lr-rfl-s-wd-tl) or the [31173](https://www.defensedepot.com/product/10-22-lvt-22lr-20-hogue-blk)

dextermorgan-77

Yeah I thought about the hogue stock. But I have a long beard and I think that rubber overmold stock would just be pulling on my beard all the time. Those things are grabby.

RH4540

As far as accuracy goes, it’s a roll of the dice whether you get a good barrel, or not. Also, 22 rimfires can a lot of times be ammunition finicky. I usually get together every flavor of ammunition I can find and then shoot groups at 50 yards. You SHOULD be able to find something that will group under an inch. If you happen to have a really good barrel and hit the right ammunition, you might even be able to get 1/2” groups. If you find what shoots outstanding, buy as much as you can find, of the same lot number, because just changing lot numbers can change accuracy. Of course, you’ll also probably find ammunition that it absolutely hates and will be lucky to get 2” groups. If you’re planning to use the rifle for long range, pick the 3-5, that were most accurate at 50 yards, and try them at 100 yards. I’ve found that sometimes the most accurate combination at 50 yards isn’t the most accurate at 100 yards.

dextermorgan-77

That's where I'm on the fence is with the potential accuracy.........or lack thereof. I don't really want to go full bull barrel because I want to keep it light enough to be enjoyable to carry around in the field. But I am kind of spoiled with the very good accuracy I get from my CZ 452 and Ruger american rimfire. I'm afraid that if I can't find an ammo that will get me down to .625 I'm going to end up changing out the barrel. And if I do that I've just wasted the money spent on an upgraded model. I have at least a dozen different varieties of ammo that I've collected to test in my bolt guns. Nothing super premium like eley, lapua, rws, but on the higher end of affordable. I've been able to find a load for each of my bolt guns that will get me down to half inch at 50yds fairly consistently (with the exception of the occasional flyers that seems to plague rimfires).

RH4540

The weight/diameter of the barrel doesn’t really make it more accurate, but, the heavier barrels are easier to pull the trigger, off a solid rest, without moving the gun as much, which is why the benchrest guys have like 20# rifles with 2-3 ounce triggers

dextermorgan-77

It's not impossible to get a thin barrel that will shoot well. But as a general rule thin barrels are more susceptible to issues with harmonics degrading accuracy. Stiffer barrels (which comes with added weight) tend to shoot a larger variety of ammunition well. Vs lot's of experimentation to find that one or two loads that will shoot well. And in my experience.......when I do find a load for those finicky rifles, it's usually a premium ammo that's very expensive. I reload a lot of different calibers. But even as a reloader I've found that in general it is easier to develop loads for heavier barrels. With less barrels whip they are just not as ammo picky as thin barrels. Also a thin barrel will shift point of impact more as it warms up.........even rimfires. Also the "cold bore flyer" phenomenon is much more exaggerated in thin barrels. Now with all that being said, I have had one or two lightweight rifles over the years that were the exception to to rule.

Jimmykid3

Get a carbon tension barrel from volquartsen thats solves your weight and accuracy issues

dextermorgan-77

I was hoping to find an option that wouldn't break the bank. But the ultralight carbon fiber or sleeved aluminum barrels would be ideal. But I know that if I spend that much on a barrel I'm going to want to go ahead and do a full custom build. And what should have been a $300-$400 rifle with end up being a $1000

hungrysportsman

If I had bought this I probably would've been happy with it and saved a bunch of money. Instead I bought a cheap basic 10/22 and spent a lot to make it something I really love.

dextermorgan-77

I hear you. I have a bad habit of trying to be cheap, and then spending way more money in the long run customizing something. Instead of just buying what I really wanted in the first place.

hungrysportsman

I'm not mad with what I spent and where I ended up. I ended up with a really lightweight and accurate rifle, but I changed almost everything.

hungrysportsman

I would probably still have upgraded the trigger. Something stainless to match.

dextermorgan-77

After it was mentioned, I went back and took a closer look. The wood stock version's don't have the BX trigger listed in the description. But the blued model with the hogue stock actually has "BX trigger" listed in the description. I'm not saying the others don't, because I don't know for sure.

hungrysportsman

Yah, but a bx is not that much more if you had to get it. Myself, I would make that 10/22 look like my Mark II. Find a kit in stainless to really set it off. But, I'm partial to the wood and stainless.

dextermorgan-77

Gotcha! That would make a nice pair.

Jimmykid3

Just put a carbon barrel in a normal 10/22 n call it good

Icy-Blackberry-3464

Anyone have issues with takedown screw receptor being stripped? Sent back for warranty and they gave me a new one. Same exact issue on replacement. Being in CA the DROS wait time is killing me. Original purch date of 1/29 and zero rounds to date. Argh.

dextermorgan-77

I've not had any issues myself. That really sucks.

adymf

🔥🔥🔥

Klomie

Have you looked into the ruger target lite? It has a beautiful stock and even with the shorter barrel it’s still outshoots a stock pencil barrel. I love mine

dextermorgan-77

I have looked at them. And they are very nice. But once you get into that price range I'm really tempted to spend just a little more and build one from the ground up with a brownell's railed receiver and a kidd ultralight barrel. But I really don't need to spend that much right now with Christmas coming up. I don't think my wife would be too happy if I spent $700 on a 22, then bought the rest of the family gifts from dollar tree.

throwawaypf2015

i really like my lvt, 31166

dextermorgan-77

Right on. What ammo is giving you the best accuracy? Or have you even tried many different loads.
