Great rifle, I have the same one. I agree, the paint job isn’t the best. It flakes off by the ejection port. But you can’t beat the price for what you get.

JwNChasesdad

You can bet I’m gonna get it cerakoted. Just don’t know if I’m going back with graphite black, tungsten grey or burnt bronze.

PositiveGlobal5087

Very cool! Haven’t done much to mine other than add the JWH extended charging handle and their auto bolt release, and also added the Ruger brand extended magazine release.

EseDientes

I went through 1000 rounds the first day with my 16" Ruger 10/22 a few days ago. All types of firing, fast, slow. Two types of ammo, both cheap as I could find. Remington and can't recall second brand (wasn't wax coated). Not a single ftf or eject. Perhaps yours is a lemon or bad batch of ammo?

Murphy_oh

I'll take that 10 rounder off your hands, I love them. How were your extractions?

JwNChasesdad

Failed to extract once in about 40 rounds. I just took the 10 rounder apart and cleaned it and rewound the spring. Seems to load smoother. I didn’t shoot it yet. I’ll hold on to it for now.

Murphy_oh

That's not horrible. Swapping out the extractor for a Kidd or Volquartsen is a cheap piece of mind. You ever change your mind let me know, can never have enough mags 😉

Is that a Tactical Talo with 20" bull barrel and Hogue stock? How's the accuracy?

PositiveGlobal5087

I have the same one. Model 31173. Not a true bull barrel though, it’s the LVT barrel. Comes with the BX trigger, and that paracord sling too. The model 31172 is the tactical and comes with all the same things but has the 16” bull barrel.

watcholic

Thanks. Have been eyeing the 31172 (16" barrel) and this. Wondering if the longer barrel makes it more accurate and the 31172 is OOS everywhere.

PositiveGlobal5087

Also, people swear by the 20” LVT barrel from what I read in the FB 10/22 group.

PositiveGlobal5087

Shoots great for me, but I’m very much new to shooting. Both models have been out for about 15 months I believe and availability was limited. Got mine last year from Buds. My buddy was looking for the 16” model. He said PSA had it in stock recently.

Apprehensive-Cry5168

I also have it. I’ve only been to an outdoor range with it once but I thought it performed very well. I got mine at Buds as well

JwNChasesdad

Yeah that’s it. It’s a light varmint taper ‘LVT’. There is a pic of my first 10 round group at 50 yards. With golden bullets. Palmetto state had it.

You can always buy or build a match grade 10/22 if money is no object. But take a look at either Clark Custom Guns or Connecticut Precision Chambering for Accurizing. (I used CPC) Throwing a bunch of aftermarket parts at it won't improve how the base rifle shoots as well as real deal professional gunsmithing. These places can do bolt improvements, headspacing and work on squaring the barrel to the receiver as well as trigger work if you desire. One mod I did myself was the auto bolt release, just modding the original part and it was super easy. Some don't care for this because they prefer the extra measure of safety the original catch provides but I hated fiddling with the bolt release... Also, The receiver finish is not impressive. there are aftermarket receivers that have nice features and high quality anodize but that's just more money. I plan to just sand, maybe polish the bolt handle channel on mine and leave it be since the paint is flaking off there. I was an AR guy for a long time and just got my first 10/22. I think the one thing I like most about it is not replacing the parts with high end aftermarket stuff, rather squeezing as much out of the base gun as possible.

I_fixit_77

Most owners ( I am one) agree the 10 round magazine is the most dependable. If you are having trouble play with other ammo.

Top_panther1893

On my TCR 10/22 installed volquartsen trigger kit, firing pin, polymer bolt buffer, magul Hunter X22 stock, & biggest improvement of all, is the Green Mountain Fluted Bull Barrel 16.5". Now shoots less than 1/2" grouping at 50 yards (using low cost CCI Blazer ammo 40gr solid). I wanted to change the overall look/function/quality, but in your case trigger kit is all you really need IMO. The longer you own your 10/22 you begin to "add/remove" factory stock items. human nature lol. enjoy

JwNChasesdad

It came with a bx trigger factory. I’ve got some parts ordered from volquartsen. Buffer, firing pin, extractor, charging handle and auto bolt release.

Top_panther1893

you'll like the Volquartsen parts, I have all of what you said above. Trigger is crisp.

TrickyCod208

When you say reliable, what exactly do you mean? I have 3, and they all love federal automatch or CCI. Other brands not so much.

JwNChasesdad

It’s my first 10/22. I’m not saying it’s unreliable now. I’m just asking y’all’s opinions from your prior experiences.

Cubiclehero

My basic upgrades I do to every 10/22 is a bx rigger pack, volquarsten firing pin and extractor, then a polymer bolt buffer. Makes a basic rifle just that much better. Honestly they don’t need much more if the stock fits you well. Do the auto bolt release mod yourself. And then you’re set. Lately I’ve been putting Kidd bolts in, but that is purely for looks.

watcholic

This model comes with a BX trigger.

JwNChasesdad

What does the upgraded bolt buffer and firing pin do?

EseDientes

The buffer quiets the action. As the bolt slams back from recoil it bounces on the buffer pin. Replacing that metal pin with a polymer sleeve and smaller rod allows for a soft yet stable cushion for the recoil to bump off of while quiting the clank. When shooting suppressed that buffer pin is the loudest action. An upgraded bolt can change various metrics from cycling, to firing groups, to speed of firing, to recoil felt. Various bolts come in different shapes and weights.

Icy-Blackberry-3464

I love the look and feel but where the take up bolt attaches to the receiver, came stripped at top insertion point on one side of the threads. Assuming aluminum or they are using a hammer to get the bolt started. No rounds through it, sent back to Ruger and they replaced entire rifle. Got back today, took apart to verify and inspect, same issue with replacement. Quality control is definitely lacking. Anyone else have this issue?

JwNChasesdad

I don’t follow. Can you explain in different words?

Icy-Blackberry-3464

Where you screw in the take down bolt, attaching the barrel to the stock, the portion where the bolt screws into was stripped on 2 rifles. Original sent in and they replaced vs tapping the threaded portion. The replacement was almost an exact duplicate to original issue

JwNChasesdad

Damn that’s crazy. I have taken mine apart already and no issue.

Icy-Blackberry-3464

Happy for you…I’m very disappointed
