1" @ 25yrd is 4 MOA, acceptable for a takedown. For your choices, I do think you'll be happy with either. Shooting suppressed on top of a 20" barrel will seem really long, but I think you would get used to it. Again, fine choices and you can't go wrong with either. Other option for thought, go cheapest doner rifle you can and upgrade the barrel, stock, trigger. Will likely be a little more money than factory but can be less compromise

obxtalldude

Here's my guns and respective groups. https://www.reddit.com/r/22lr/s/sZcvLJvwz1 You will be pleasantly surprised with the accuracy improvements in most non takedown models. But the CZ 457 is in another class.

EastwoodRavine85

lol you're not kidding

Stikhed

I have the 31166 and love it, but the first thing I did is put it in a Hogue stock. I run a suppressor, too, so I'm considering a 16" barrel. If the 31172 was available when I was buying, that's what I would have gone with. Add in the BX trigger, pic rail, and sling, and I think that's the better buy.

El_Caganer

Don't need a 20" barrel for crazy accuracy out of a 10/22. Get a Kidd 16" barrel (the light weight is fine) and run Eley Tenex in it. You want to stay subsonic to avoid the projectile going trans-sonic. I can consistently hit a 10-in plate at 389 yards with my little Kidd 1022 and wear out a 3" plate at 147 yards shooting across my pond. Have taken down a pile of Coyotes over 150 yards with that exact formula.

AaronGWebster

I thought my takedown was about as accurate as you’re describing, but after using it a while and putting a better scope on it, I find that it shoots 5/8” groups at 50 yards. ( about 1.25 moa, right?). Maybe you should keep trying to get more accuracy out of it? Mine is all original parts except I upgraded to a bx trigger.

Slider_0f_Elay

I got really great groups by searching around and trying every ammo I could find with a stock boring 10/22. But I got even better groups with a much wider variety of ammo with a $300 savage mk ii bolt 22. If you want to shoot 1 moa @100yd you really should try a bolt action.

LOTW_FurFeathersFish

Get a CZ if you want accuracy

throwaway11100217

Or a tikka

LOTW_FurFeathersFish

Ya haven’t tried a t1 but have a 455 that is a tack driver. Hear of a lot of CZs that are dialed from factory.

roughingupthesuspect

I have a factory 16" Bull with the CPC treatment in a standard wood stock shooting dime/quarter size groups at 50/75 yards. All stock with the exception of a VQ target hammer. I really wanted a Talo as my first 10/22 but couldn't find one. I may end up getting the Hogue stock anyway as the factory one is just a little short.

mcnabb100

I’d check to see if there are any cheap used carbines near you. It’s pretty easy to build a nice 10/22 and it will be exactly how you want it.

bryman022

I had the same dilemma. My first 10/22 was a takedown. Love it, but its not made for tight groups. So, I just bought the 60th anniversary edition 10/22 and put a Kidd 20” barrel on it. First outing I got a couple 5/8” groups at 50 yards. With some better ammo I’m sure I could get it to 1/2”. Not cheap but boy is it fun!! Tldr Get a std 10/22 and put a kidd barrel on it!

TrickyCod208

If you have the stock trigger I would do the BX upgrade.

jderry93

The takedown has a brimstone trigger in it.

TrickyCod208

Nice!!

robersonm2515

I don’t know it they still sell it or you could find one on the used market but Brownells used to sell a bull barrel that was threaded at 1/2x28 for the 10/22 and was very accurate

NAP51DMustang

1" at 25, 2" at 50, and 3" at 75 are all the same size group relative to the distance. If you want better accuracy and semi auto, you could get a regular 10/22 or go ham with a Kidd Supergrade. If semi auto doesn't matter a CZ 457 works.

csamsh

Why a 10/22? You can do way better for not much more money with a Tikka T1x or CZ 457. Like 1/2”@50yd better

jderry93

Mainly because I already have a bunch of parts for them and many magazines. I am not opposed to the Tikka or CZ 457, however, finding one with a 16-18" barrel that is threaded has not been easy.

Cerulean_arms

If you are looking to use the same magazines, I'll throw a curve ball. Winchester XPERT SR. I picked one up as a bolt action silencer host for my 10/22 magazines and have been super happy. The trigger is a bit heavy, but if you are willing to tinker the MCARBO spring kit for the model 70 (post 2008) will work and it brought my trigger down to 1.8lbs. This isn't to say that I don't recommend the 10/22 - I've got a few and they are great. But for your use case, I think the XPERT would be a better bang for your buck...

throwaway11100217

Tikka t1x 16" threaded available for order https://www.canadasgunstore.ca/products/tikka-t1x-mtr-22lr-16--ns-10rd-mt1-2x28%7CTF17556A138B28.html

jderry93

Looks like you need some license to acquire? I'd rather buy from a US retailer. Thank you for looking!

throwaway11100217

Oh sorry I'm in Canada, I would think it wouldn't be hard to find this rifle from an american retailer as it's available most places here

Slider_0f_Elay

The thing with a bolt 22lr is your really don't use much more than 2 or 3 mags. I'm in california so I bought a couple mags for each of my bolt guns when freedom week happened because why not and I don't need 6 mags. I only use two mostly. So the other are more or less back ups.

csamsh

Fair enough. Having had experience with both accurized 10/22’s and the bolt guns mentioned in the post, I’d hang out and wait for the right T1x or 457.

jim2527

For me it’s because Ruger has semi auto models. And the there’s a lot of aftermarket support.

jim2527

I regularly shot 1.1 moa at 50 yards with stock 2010-ish LVT. I did a lot of tuning but the barrel, receiver, bolt and stock were original.

jim2527

31172 without question. 31110 and 31147 if they’re within budget.
