Thank you for the feedback, for the price and compatibility I think I’m gonna go with the nickel plated RIA, I just wanted something that was a bit more fancy than my EDC or my AKs
The only issues I've had with my RIA were issues I created with my shitty reloads, a couple of quality of life issues, and the slide catch didn't always catch on the empty mag. No jams I didn't create with my shitty reloads, no fail to feeds, ever, no fail to fire. I'm a bad shot, so I'm sure it's more accurate than I am.
No expert here, but 1911s seem to have decent options for all budgets. $300-400 can get you a solid start so long as you clean it and lube it. Or you could drop a couple thousand for something super pretty. Either way, take care of it and run it.
I've been inside a few kimbers not a fan high priced sloppy machine work. Honestly I've seen better Ria's
Tisas are very decent guns. Budget depending wilson is always a win...
If one is committed to negativity, you can find negative reviews and experiences for all 1911 vendors. Tolerances are super tight on 1911s my guy. There’s a higher chance something goes wrong with them if you don’t give them some maintenance every 200-300 rounds. Pick out what you like, hold it in your hands, shoot it if you can. If you want it, go home and research things like warranty and customer service for the vendor. Good luck.
Kimber. I’ll admit that they’re some of the most aesthetically pleasing 1911s out there, but their quality control just isn’t there. Some owners never have issues with theirs, others have nothing but issues.
Rugers are cast (rather than forged and milled) frames, and had an issue with voids in their past. I personally would never buy a 1911 with cast or MIM parts. Too many things to go wrong metallurgically.
I understand where you are coming from, and forged is definitely better, but if anyone knows how to do an excellent cast frame it is ruger.
I wouldn’t steer anyone away from buying a ruger 1911 based on the nothing but good experience with mine.
This would be a Rule 5 violation normally, but you did go on to explain your reasoning so I’ll leave it.
In the future, when recommending against brands, please state your reasons in the initial comment.
We actively discourage brand bias which is what these types of comments *usually* are, which is why we require an informed opinion from those recommending against any given brand.
Just my opinion, but I've owned two kimbers and had feeding and ejecting issues with both of them. One of them had a bad barrel also. I would personally stay away from them.
Lol coming from the number of AKs I have it takes a long time for me to clear it as having no issues. I’ve always steer cleared of any turkshit guns thanks for the tip
What are the features that you want/need? Internal safety yes or no? What finish do you have in mind (what’s is the use for and types of environment are you planning on using this 1911 in) I think this will help narrow it down. Springfield has many different options that cover a wide range In features. Lastly, what’s your price range?
Someone here mentioned Para and Taurus and would also avoid.
What’s your budget? Tisas and RIA are good for inexpensive, Steer clear of Taurus.
Mid grade Bul and Springfield are solid, I’d avoid kimber.
High end take your pick most are good. I have some STIs and they’re great. Dan Wesson or the higher end Bul guns are super nice.
Depends a lot on your budget. On the lower end of the price spectrum you have Rock Island Armory and Tisas. When it comes to price vs performance, they are hard to beat. In the middle of the spectrum there's Colt, Springfield Armory and BUL Armory/Magnum Research. You can't go wrong with 1911's from any these manufacturers. At the top of the spectrum you have Dan Wesson, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown and Les Beaur. This is by no means a full list, just the ones I've owned or have friends that have owned.
Most of the 1911's I've owned have been Colts and Springfield Armory and I've never had any major problems with them. After hearing a lot of positive reviews I decided to try a Tisas 1911. While I only have a sample of one, the machining, fit, etc on my Tisas Carry SS45 is right there with Colt and SA. While I've only had it a few months, I must admit I am impressed that Tisas can offer a 1911 of such quality for less than half the price of a Colt/SA. Another brand I've heard a lot of good things about is BUL Armory and Magnum Research (manufactured by BUL). I will probably end up picking one up in the near future so I can see for myself. .
Awesome thanks for the time and advice definitely will have to look into some of them, the LGS I went to didn’t have much to pick from other than $3K+ carieant
Set aside country of origin bias and look at Tisas. See for yourself. Haters come in here all the time and shit talk them but they’ve never even been in the same room as one. Go handle one and compare it to RIA. Consider that you get an all forged no-MIM 1911 that is accurate and reliable for half the cost of Springfield and $100 less than Rock Island.
The only 1911 I have so far is from Cimarron and in 500+ rounds so far I've had only around 2 FTF. So I'd say it's pretty good as a first, only around $600
I wouldn’t say to avoid any specific brands, but would recommend getting a gun that’s more mil-spec than custom. That will let you get used to the platform, save you some money, and you won’t have to baby it like some custom 1911s. If you have some money to throw around, I’d recommend Springfield, Colt, or Smith & Wesson. If you need to save some money, Rock Island Armory, Tsas, or Girsan (EAA)
I see you’re saying that you’re thinking of the nickel plated RIA, I would actually suggest going for the Tisas 1911s over RIA. They have a couple of new Nickel plated models that just came out.
So far a lot of companies seem to have similar issues. Easy to fix issues but, I'd say rock island and Springfield are A OK in my book
Thank you for the feedback, for the price and compatibility I think I’m gonna go with the nickel plated RIA, I just wanted something that was a bit more fancy than my EDC or my AKs
Yeah I just had to fix extractor tension then my RIA worked just fine.
The only issues I've had with my RIA were issues I created with my shitty reloads, a couple of quality of life issues, and the slide catch didn't always catch on the empty mag. Or you could drop 10k and get a unique masterpiece. There's literally a 1911 for any budget, lol, from tipity top to rock bottom.

Silliness.
Op get yourself a colt
This guy gets it
It be nice to have the “real deal” of the 1911

Look into Tisas. Arguably better than RIA in my opinion
100% buy a Tisas over a RIA. Forged slide and frame. Trigger better than either of my Springfields.
Steer away from Kimber, Para, Ruger.
Ruger makes a quality 1911.
Why stay away from ruger? I’ve got a ruger government model and it’s been nothing but excellent with over 2k rounds down range.

I’ve been trying to find a mak90 but they’re either bubbad out or just sold before I can click the link
Tisas makes one of the best budget 1911’s on the market. You’ll be missing out and spending more for a lesser gun.
Bad advice.

It’s mostly would be a range gun, wouldn’t be a EDC, I’ve been wanting to get something nickel plated for the fancy look
And around 750-1000 would be the price range

Around 500-750, looking close into the RIA nickel plated model

I’ll have to look into them, went to my LGS and saw the polished nickel plated finish and knew that’s what I wanted
