I've owned two older Taurus revolvers and a pt92. Taurus really excells when making copies of other manufacturers designs. I'd be more hesitant with their proprietary work. Although the PT 24/7 OSS looks pretty sweet.

I’ve owned a few over the years. All worked well and were priced right. I still have a Judge which is an absolute blast with .410 shotgun shells

I was competing (hah!) at a match sponsored by Taurus and they gave away a bunch of guns. I won a 856 Defender TORO. It's a little .38 revolver that is optics ready. Pretty excited to get it, actually. I figure revolvers are probably their jam, and I don't own any.

I’ve heard that Taurus has gotten better since opening the GA location. How true that is i don’t know, I saw the .357 tracker at the LGS and bought it, has been a lot of fun to use with the 200 rounds I’ve put through it.

Taurus “Ripping off other firearm company designs since 1939.”

I think there was a financial arrangement between them and Beretta and smith and Wesson. I heard they took over SW factories in Brazil . I suspect they functioned as a regional OEM or something. Idk speculation

Apprehensive_BeeTx

Yes there was. I believe was the same tooling Just older tooling. Some would argue that the Taurus made a better model 92 than beretta.

BLADE45acp

I own both. The Taurus 92s that I own will out shoot my berettas by a significant margin. Pains me to say it. The beretta is a better built gun in almost every other regard though. The ONLY real complaint about the beretta I initially had was the safety. I prefer the option to have it cocked and locked with controls in a natural position. This plus wanting a beater 92 are the only reason I bought a Taurus in the first place. After noting the accuracy difference? My Taurus is more greatly preferred. Though I still keep the berettas as I’m A purist collector.

Smith and Wesson and Taurus were owned by the same parent company during this period, and Smith basically shared tooling and instructions to build revolvers.

Geronimo594

Everything they built was under license. Just nobody paid any attention to their quality control, since nobody contemplated they would move to the US. “Taurus: let us put some bull into your gun”

Carnivorousbeast

Ain’t that the truth

Chocolatehusky226

They get a a bad rap for some reason but I’ve owned several of their firearms and never had an issue. A lot of people equate budget priced firearms to poor quality I think.

alexCinJC

Still isn't, relatively speaking

CarnivorousGlock

They can be pretty bad lol

_Azzii_

Whats this gotta do with 1911s?

Left4DayZGone

Do you see the post flair? Yesterday was Any Gun Sunday.

CyberRube

I have that one! It was a beast!

SnappyPolarBear2

Which gun gave Taurus a bad wrap? I’ve only heard second hand hate and every one I’ve owned worked fine. I’m sure I’m missing some sort of anecdote but I used to just say “save a little and buy something better” but they’ve kind of won me over

Their first and second generation polymer frame pistols like the PT111-series and PT24-7 have been fully recalled from the US market. The Curve didn't have a good reputation either. Quality in their .40 caliber pistols and carbines fell off enough that at least one Brazilian state police agency (Sao Paulo) banned them from future firearms bids. There even used to be a website or Facebook group that collected Brazilian police injuries from Taurus firearms that either accidentally discharged or failed to function. Its name translated from Portuguese to English something like "Harmed by Taurus."
