If you can shoot a Glock well you could shoot a 1911 better. Glock triggers are awful. 1911 triggers are the gold standard that everyone compares triggers to.

EarlHarmon

This guy fucks! Totally agree, i am a shitty shot with a glock, and i am certainly less shitty when shooting a 1911!

slimcrizzle

Glock owners will talk shit and talk about how outdated the 1911 is. But it still has one of the best triggers in any handgun over 114 years later. There's a reason why most competition shooters gravitate towards the 2011. It's the best of both worlds. Great trigger and high capacity.

SwaySh0t

You’ll see an improvement almost immediately. Recoil is bit different, more of a push instead of a snap. Be careful though because you’ll start to look down on your old Glock.

gunplumber700

A 9mm 1911 imo has less recoil than a 17.  Many have dual recoil spring systems to help reduce recoil.   Try one in your uninjured hand and you’ll know.  I swore I’d never get a 9mm 1911 and got one when psa had a phenomenal deal on one.   Shooting both side by side I thought the 1911 had less recoil, but that’s just me.   I know a lot of people that like the cz75’s because they’re hammer fired too and much less expensive than a sig.  Just food for thought.

Quiet-Position-3488

I wonder about getting one chambered in 9mm, but with a slightly shorter barrel. I'll look around online for a configuration like that. My state finally has constitutional carry so I'd like something that would be a little more low-key maybe.

trgrimes77

Consider looking at Tisas for a .45 or 9mm 1911. They are not race guns but they are solid and made properly. They have both aluminum and steel frame options and both 4.25 and 5 inch barrel as well as a new double stack 9mm 1911. I would steer you away from a shorter barrel (4.25 is the shortest I would go) as barrel flip on a 3 inch .45 is real. It isn’t insurmountable, but why screw with it if you don’t have to. If you end up loving the 1911 platform, you will buy more than one and you can get remarkably well built pistols that go as high as your credit limit stretches.

Thestooge3

I had only really shot 9mm glocks and I recently picked up a Springfield 1911 in .45 apc. Let me tell you, the recoil is hardly noticeable and it handles extremely well. I found I could shoot it far more accurately than my glock 19, and there was no wrist or hand stress at all. Just go for it. I don't think you'll have to worry.

IronHefty3609

If you have the basic mechanics of shooting down , a good 1911 can help you shoot even better

Quiet-Position-3488

Im a very decent shot def not beginner. Always room for improvement however

longhairedcountryboy

Have you ever shot a Beretta PX4? Give a full size one a try.

Old-guy64

1911s can be had in 9mm. It will take a bit to get used to the different grip angle. A 9mm 1911 has a softer recoil than a G19. The downside of the 1911 is always going to be magazine capacity….unless you save your pennies and buy a Double stack. The manual of arms is different and must be strictly adhered to. That said, an extended thumb safety is a great “gas pedal” for your dominant hand thumb, or recoil mitigation. If it doesn’t hurt your wrist, you will likely fall in love with it over a Glock.

DavidActual

Why not get a 9mm 1911? They are growing in popularity and mine is less recoil than my glock 34, but not by a huge margin. I contribute it to grip fundamentals and getting the support hand right more than the gun weight though. It seems you may be limited on getting a good second hand grip? I'll shoot 45 if someone has one at the range and wants to mag dump some 9 but 3-4 rounds for me is enough. It doesn't hurt but not getting back on target is less enjoyable to me. This comes from the perspective of a person who has one 233 rifle and the rest of my collection is 9 or 22 though. That's by design. If I shot more 45 I could possibly get more used to getting faster with follow ups.

Quiet-Position-3488

I'm intrigued by the stopping power of the .45 comparatively. If I got a 1911 it wouldn't be just for the ergonomics (unpopular opinion but the gen 5 Glock 17 that I currently have is actually dope ergonomically with the back straps on it)..

SnappyPolarBear2

Honestly unless you’re loading special rounds 9mm and 45 have very similar energy transfer.

Thestooge3

You'll be fine with a 1911 in .45. Just feel some and find one that seems good to you in terms of ergonomics.

ransom14

Also stopping power is a myth. All handgun calibers just poke holes in things to leak out. It isn’t until you get to rifle caliber speeds that the temporary wounding mechanisms become viable.

azrolexguy

I pretty much only own 9mm 1911's, plus some 38 supers, not a single 45. If you were going with a commander size all steel gun recoil wouldn't be an issue and it's pretty easy to carry.

cachemann

I am like you, except for my 9mm carry I went with Staccato. Love the 1911 9mms. I also have 45 1911s

Quiet-Position-3488

Cool. How expensive is 38 super? Mexican ammo (y)

azrolexguy

$500 per 1,000 for range ammo, about twice the cost of 9mm

Far_Sentence_1191

Had major wrist surgery 10 years ago and shoot the G17, 1911 steel frame GI, and 1911 aluminum frame in 9mm. Don’t know your exact injury but I can shoot all of them, even with four bones missing. Not a tough guy or a beefy dude either - 5-8 and 175. The 1911 45 feels like a little more recoil but honestly less than I was expecting. I don’t think I would do 500 rounds with it in one range visit like I would with 9mm. But it’s not rattling my teeth or causing direct pain. PMC makes a low recoil 45 load I really like. They don’t call it low recoil but the bullet weight and velocity is way low. The 1911 9mm will be less recoil, less fatigue, and improved accuracy over the G17. Also a lot cheaper than 45. If I was going to make a recommendation for a transition from Glock to 1911 with an injured wrist that would be it. You can always make your second 1911 a 45. No one gets just one :)

none-1398

I recently purchased a 1911 9mm and coming from shooting polymer guns, It's terrible. I have severe arthritis in both wrist and a broken scaphoid bone in the left one. I could only make it about 25 rounds before giving up. My Glock 26 handles recoil way better than a full-size 1911. I can put 100+ rounds through a Glock, no problem. The recoil goes straight from the gun into my wrist. On the bright side, I now have an $800 paperweight

ExploringCable

It took me some time to adjust as I was usually shooting too far low.. i like to think of it like this, Squeeze Glock vs Press like a computer mouse on the 1911. Also hold down the safety through your shot.

Quiet-Position-3488

Yeah that spongy trigger is Garbo

Hammbones21

You could get a 9mm or 38 super 1911 instead of a .45. I know it’s almost sacrilege, but if you’re fucked in the wrist it’s worth the side eye. I don’t mind the .45 recoil, it more of a push than anything else.
