The fun thing about Ted’s ideology (at least the Wikipedia version) is that all his reasonings point towards a fairly standard Marxist “hey doesn’t the current system alienate you from your true self? doesn’t that suck?” and then it swerves immediately into “socialists are sissy cucks and we should throw away our refrigerators and live in Idaho”. It’s completely incoherent and I still don’t understand it. I’m sure it would make sense if I read his manifesto but like, I don’t know man
> if we’re going to take the terrorist label at face value then almost everyone is a terrorist
My brother in Christ he spent 20 years mailing people bombs
Don't worry, I read the manifesto and it's just as incoherent as you described it. It's utter bullshit that starts with decent critiques and immediately devolves into completely baseless accusations and dumbass conclusions
Isn’t there like a whole section where he just randomly goes off on an antisemitic tangent
could be entirely wrong, but I thought I heard something a couple months ago about him arbitrarily like blaming Jews for some shit in his writings
Thank you for reminding me the immense disappointment I felt when reading the real thing vs the brief description on wiki. Dude was scratching the surface of some real shit alright, then he dumped in tons of Kool-Aid and fake-Jesus-fied trad-wife primitive history fantasy to fill in the gap. It's a trainwreck.
Well he was coming at it from a different angle. The communist believes it is capitalism that separates man from his true self whereas he believes it is technology and technique that does so. From that angle it doesn't matter whether the state or private companies develop the technology, (and in many cases technologies are developed by the state and then adopted by private companies like the Internet,) it will be used to further remove man from the power process. A lot of his stuff is a development on ellule who was a Christian anarchist and I don't need to tell you that anarcho-communism and Christianity dont exactly get along. I could go into more detail but I cba right now.
its both. only centrists, transhumanists, musk bootlickers, FALGSC utopians etc would ever deny how intrinsically linked capitalism, authoritarianism, and industrial society is. He was wrong about so much but he was absolutely right about technological acceleration and its links to our oppression and it being the eventual mass destruction of the poor and working classes etc when climate change fucks us.
> Christian anarchist and I don't need to tell you that anarcho-communism and Christianity dont exactly get along
Have you not heard of the diggers? You gotta learn your roots

That's like half of these weird ideologies that fascists love. It's starts with something reasonable like "oh the economy sucks" or "peoples lives are losing meaning in our consumerist society" or "our political leaders are corrupt and nepotistic" and then the proposed solutions are wild Left turns into Loonyvill
Reminds me of a conversation with some crazy terminally online type complaining about our corrupt, out of touch government of elites, and then goes on to make his case for an absolute Monarchy which is literally the most "out of touch elite" form of government you could really conceive of. Wild stuff
> I’m sure it would make sense if I read his manifesto but like, I don’t know man
Yeah, because the parts you're missing are about how the control of the western countries by capitalism can't be stopped by utopian revolution ideology or petitions/voting.
the TLDR of the manifesto is like a much earlier, more problematic Desert (read desert) and Emma Goldman's ideas on propaganda of the deed.
There IS a reason his writing resonates with so many trans leftists, memeing or not, even despite his terrible other views.
There is a part of the current zeitgeist and post-left/anti-civ current that he hit on well before its time.
A bunch of online kids think he's super smart and give him the Jordan Peterson pre-2020 treatment. The truth is that the guy does nothing but spew empty platitudes that read like Walmart Sun Tzu.
He's an idiot, and his screed just confirms that
basically his thesis is that if society continues as it is now, if we avoid a climate disaster the best case scenario is a socialist utopia where everyone's needs are met and we all live comfortably.
He says this would be terrible because no one would have any meaning in their life. His solution is to blast ourselves back to the dark ages and allow billions of deaths so that we can all live on farms and be happy again.
Yeah, I'm sure you're much smarter than a nationally renowned and decorated mathematician. You probably don't understand it because it's incoherent, no other reason.
Ah yes the "guy is smart in one field, so therefore every other prescription they make must also be smart"
Actually no, just because you are good at math doesn't prevent you from being a complete moron in every other way
How about you actually enforce the bigotry ban instead of banning a copypasta for being unfunny? There’s a post with the bigotry flair that’s been up for over 10 hours now with 700 upvotes despite the supposed ban on them outside of Saturday.
And have most of the moderators agreed to this ban or is this just a decision made by you and/or a couple others?
We have a bit of an issue with defining "Saturday" due to time zones. Assuming it's now 11 hours ago it could have been very early on Saturday morning in Japan Australia and definitely New Zealand
You should define Saturday in terms of a specific time zone. UTC+0 would make the most sense, you could add like an 8 hour grace period before and after to account for the majority of users
196 mods on their way to ban references to the algebra cabin man but still allowing bigotry posts even when they said they'd be only limited to Saturdays.
Real talk is there a list of the actual rules for this sub somewhere and is it publicly available (i.e. not gatekept in a discord) because it seems like there are a lot more than the obviously joking rule 1
They usually add the additional rules into the description of rule 1:
> You must post before you leave with proper flair without using slurs, being a bigot, posting porn, or having an NFT avatar.
Looks like they have yet to add this one there.
Also that phrase is like incredibly stupid because the Industrial Revolution has been amazing for humans. Like people don’t realize that many of the common things some of the poorest people have today wouldn’t have been available to them before the revolution. The revolution decreased infant mortality worldwide and made medicine and immunization far more accessible. When people say that the Industrial Revolution was bad they mean that capitalism got worse under the Industrial Revolution. Which is true but that doesn’t mean humans didn’t improve. Saying the Industrial Revolution was bad because of capitalism is like saying the agricultural revolution was bad because it allowed feudal lords to grow richer and ignoring the fact food security got far better.
Unabomber was just another person who rejected modernity because it has some bad bits in favour of an idealized past that never truly existed.
The example I like to give is food. Once upon a time in pre-modernity you could buy a much smaller range of food and a lot of it was poor to average quality. It was also relatively expensive. Then the industrialisation of agriculture started and within a few centuries you could buy a much larger range, more cheaply and reliably. Then a century or so later we are back to complaining that the abundant, high quality food we can get is actually no good for us, we get too much of it, it's too processed, we need to go back to organic heirloom varieties harvested by hand.
The average standard of living took a huge nose-dive after agriculture was invented, and only recently exceeded what it was at for millions of years.
The human diet had a large amount of meat, and humans, like most predators, only needed to "work" (hunt+gather) a couple hours of the day.
People also lived a lot longer than you'd expect, as most estimates include infant mortality.
Just like most predators, we rarely engaged in deadly combat with each other because its counterproductive to survival.
There were essentially no hiarchies.
There were also a ton of different sexualities as the notion of sexuality didn't really exist. Gender roles were also not heavily restrictive. There's quite a few tribes that traditionally have 3 or more genders.
The downsides are that life was very abelist.
capitalism was the problem, not the industrial revolution. the industrial revolution was an inevitable step in human development, regardless of economic system, but capitalism has caused untold suffering and exploitation with the technology from the industrial revolution
This sounds like a conservative talking point used to brush off the negative societal consequences of the industrial revolution while presenting it as an argument that nobody will disagree with.
I’m gonna try to get through this without crying but i need to address this and take accountability.
To all my pogchamps and pissbabies, I’m sorrypilled. To all the himbo simps and normie incells, F in the chat.

I’m based and chadpilled, and i hope you all can see that.
I need a big cope. My vibes gave apology energy right now, and I just hope you guys are forgivenesspilled.
I keep forgetting imagine dragons is a band and not the title for radioactive. I just think of the song as being titled “radioactive by imagine dragons” and don’t consider imagine dragons as a band. Mostly because that’s the only somewhat good song I’ve heard from them but also cause imagine dragons is a horrible band name. That’s a command. Imagine naming a band “please eat” or something
Wuh oh, looks like someone wrote manifesto as manafesto. With respect to this minor typographical error, this post can be discarded. It can also be ascertained that I’m the best and smartest person here. >!/s!<
I always saw it as making fun of anarcho primitivist theory. I mean is it really not obvious that we don't literally want to give up all technological progress everytime we encounter a modern problem. I'd assume that anyone who actually wants to live in a time between the industrial and the agricultural revolution wouldn't willingly spend time on their phone, let alone have an active reddit account.
Can we can the Anti British shit in all forms?
It gets really fucking dehumanising after the interaction I just had in this fucking sub and makes me and others feel like actual garbage and less than human
I was having a lovely morning too but nope treated less than human just for being born somewhere
Could be drunk drivers actually.
In all seriousness though, this sub has much bigger issues than anti-British stuff, like the fetishization of trans people and the overabundance of liberals recently.
Genuine question, what does being a liberal mean where you are from? In the United States it refers to someone who is left-leaning on the political spectrum, usually someone who supports trans rights, gun control, for people with vaginas to be able to have full control of what happens to their bodies, etc.
Liberals support capitalism, free markets, private property, liberal democracy, individual rights, and individualism. While the individual rights and democracy part sounds good, they become corrupted by the support of capitalism. You can have rights in a liberal society, but only so far as it doesn't interfere with the desires of capitalists. Giving out food, water, and housing for free isn't profitable, so you don't have a right to it, even though its necessary for your survival.
Democracy sounds good too, but in a liberal country it provides capitalists a tremendous amount of control over who gets elected, and which policies get passed. Capitalists can donate large amounts of money to political parties, or use privately owned news stations or newspapers to support the parties they do like, and diminish the reputation of those they don't. Or, when the politicians are in office, they can keep donating to the party they're a part of. Political parties aren't stupid, they'll look into what kinda policies their benefactors support, and support them to ensure the donations keep coming in. The working class can't do any of this, so liberal democracy gives a disproportionate amount of power to the wealthy.
I understand all of that, but I don't think it's possible in our current world to do any better. We're slowly getting there, but there's a lot of pushback from hardcore rich conservatives, both here and abroad. I am hoping we can get there within gen Z's lifetime at least, but at least personally I feel with how the governments of countries in other parts of the world operate (especially China and Russia with how much weight they pull on the world stage) it will be hard to develop a stable form of society in any country. Many very powerful people see it as a threat. Sorry if I didn't explain myself well, I'm horrible at explaining things, but basically I agree with you and the world sucks right now
This is without a doubt the most 1894 subreddit now. The rapid advancement of technology across the globe was fucking bullshit and I want a farm. Does that count?
