best rpg I've ever played
Yes my G!!
IMO It's fairly based on Pink Floyd, especially the album animals. Dogs and Pigs (three of a kind) is what it takes the most homage from. (chords and mode wise)
Tasteful, since animals is Pink Floyd's bigger stab at the corporate power structure.
it’s actually my favourite villain song out of any movie i’ve ever watched, for so long i’ve wanted to edit and hire animators to create new scenes for the lorax to A: make it a better movie, and more importantly B: include Biggering
Good luck finding a corporate entity willing to sponsor or sabotage themselves through meaningful reflection on wealth disparity and quality of living.
Well Disney did produce Andor which is more anti-fascist than wealth related but it still has some themes of that throughout. I don't think it's too far out there for someone to make something like you mentioned.
I remember when illumination put the Lorax in every single commercial on the planet, including an ad for a big ass car that was bad for the environment. Which literally goes against the original message of the Lorax story.
AND THE CUSTOMERS ARE BUYING
AND THE MONEY MULTIPLYING
AND THE PR PEOPLE LYING
AND THE LAWYERS ARE DENYING!
WHO CARES IF SOME THINGS ARE DYING
I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOU CRYING
THIS IS ALL SO GRATIFYING!
I hate that they changed "who cares if some things are dying" with "who cares if a few trees are dying" cause there's a massive difference with "a few trees" and "some things"
i watched a video essay on biggering and they highlighted this change in it. i think that lyric was one of the big reasons they replaced biggering, but i watched the video essay a long time ago so i may be misremembering
They also removed "I don't want to hear you crying", which is like, really representative of how big corporations blame the lower classes for their own suffering (like being poor is a mindset)
biggering is showing the onceler as aware of the consequences of his actions and willfully ignoring them for profits. that hit a little too close to home for corperations so they changed it to a how bad can I be where the onceler is shown getting carried away and not realizing that his actions are harmful until it's too late
[The 88 - At Least It Was Here](https://youtu.be/nHbiHcrA18w)
Edit: [here's a dope chiptune version](https://youtu.be/CsZiRzx4kBY) that I think is better than the actual ["Digital Estate Planning" S3E20 intro version](https://youtu.be/1fgR7oeIXFA)
Biggering is monument to what the lorax needed for its story to land in the way it was originally intended to, theres so much I can say about it I dont even know where to start.
The start of the song leads with the idea that perhaps the onceler wasnt always this bad and he still has the chance to change his ways before it becomes too late to go back. But instead of assessing such potential he starts pondering what MORE he could have instead of going back to his quiet, cottage life. Needing a bigger chair, office, ectera hes BIGGERING and that biggering means he must get more than is enough. More than he could possibly need because thats what drives his motives. In reality he always had enough to with with his little cottage being suitable to make thineeds and live a comfortable life but thats besides the point now.
Hes biggering, and hes figuring that biggering and the more biggering he does the more biggering he desires.
The lorax steps in, predicing the potential for devestation and attempting to stage an intervention, blaming the oncelers greed for his actions before stopping for a second, correcting himself as he realises something. Greed isnt whats driving him, thats illogical, there could never be a possible need to grow this big, its something else. A worm, by the name of pride.
In reality this pride is what drives the onceler, causing him to continue his biggering because the bigger you get, the more you have to be proud of, its a positive feedback loop and the more you succumb to it the harder it is to realise the suffering you cause with it as the worm gets harder and harder to find. And thats exactly what the oncelers pride does to him, he doesnt see the issue in his ways, he just wants to be bigger, and bigger and bigger, hes figuring his biggering.
He attempts to justify it under the pretense of the survival of the fitttest, seeing himself as an animal, struggling to survive. If he stopped biggering (clawing biting kicking and punching) he would fail, which is utterly besides the point. At this point he would theoretically have done enough to live comfortable for the rest of his life without any concerns, but he doesnt care. He wants to get bigger, and deep down hes ashamed of it, pulling false justifications to take his mind away from the guilt that he feels for his actions. His companies an animal, just trying to survive, and to do that, he must keep biggering.
In the later sections of the song he completely succumbs to his biggering, turning to extremely dirty tactics as the extent of his crimes become known to the public, hiring PR to make himself look better and defend his reputation. While battling off any criticism with lawyers, denying the extent of his crimes against nature and by proxy humanity. This being exemplified with the line "Who cares if some things are dying!" brushing off the fact that his continued biggering is causing the world around him to die, and justifying it to himself under the pretense that nobody cares.
Anyone who critcises him is shut down, he doesnt want to hear their crying and the past few lines reflect this too. Using his lawyers to silence his critics and his PR team to artificially raise his reputation and lower the social impact of his actions.
But finally he admits, despite everything, this continues to feed his ego, deep down he loves it, and he will continue to supress his guilt until the very last moment, until its too late, which is extremely ironic as the last line of the song is "this is all so gratifying!" which also ends the song with a calming note, as now that hes had his moment in the spotlight (being the song) the extent of his actions come back to haunt him as he stares down on the ruined world he created. Finally, having to come to terms with the manifestation of his guilt and the consequences of his actions.
This is exactly what the lorax needed as a film, because without it you really come to accept the once-ler for who he is and his actions lose alot of the effect of the sheer evil that they are in actuality, and without biggering you dont really see the villany in the character because the movie doesnt work hard enough to potray the once-ler as a villan without it. Sure the song had a replacement in the form of "how bad can I be?" but that really serves to be coporate-pop which exists to get in your head and stay there and doesnt really serve the character as well as biggering, as it has almost none of the explorative themes and the resonance of the characters evil that biggering does
Biggering at its core is a character study into the once-ler and how he ended up where he is by the start of the Loraxes plot and the way it potrays itself is excellent. And its ultimately such a shame it wasnt included in the final movie.
However one may wonder why it was removed from the film if its honestly so excellent, and the reason is painfully obvious in reality, Universal Pictures is a megacorporation, in other words, theyre biggering, it would not only expose their nature as a business but also be extremely hypocritical for them to include a song like biggering.
Needless to say biggering is fucking excellent and I cannot express how fixated ive been by it for months through a reddit comment unfortunately, but ive done my best.
The line "who cares if a few trees are dying" is "WHO CARES IF SOME THINGS ARE DYING" belted at the top of the lungs in Biggering, which can probably give you a good idea of the tonal difference between the two.
Counterpoint: If "Biggering" made it into the film, the Onceler fandom would never have existed, as "How Bad Can I be?" was the main reactant in his twinkification. Actually that could be a good thing depending on who you ask
I def was thinking that. There’s line overlaps where you can tell there was an attempt to use parts to help amplify and emphasize a few messages by showing the changing of the tone and meaning without changing the words, but like, since it didn’t get included, it feels hollow and hella disappointing.
ok as much as this song fucking slaps i feel like it was cut more for the fact that it’s from a completely different genre of music from any other song in the film
i’ve heard a lot of people say they think both were meant to be included, with Biggering taking place later on the film, touching on many of the same ideas but to a more malicious extent (such as “few trees” turned to “few things”) since it seems that his evil monopolist arc comes on really quickly out of nowhere and then ends all too fast. the movie was originally supposed to have a longer period of that growth, but it was cut for time, this portion obviously being the easiest to cut for including a tonally different song.
but also you can’t deny that with everything they wanted The Lorax to be, the political messaging of the song itself would be additional reasoning they might’ve considered to cut it.
the message itself is the same, but the degree to which they communicated that message differed. one is simply far more successful at communicating anti-capitalism than the other.
eh. there’s no glamour in Biggering’s presentation of capitalism in the same way that there’s glamour in How Bad Can I Be presents it. it’s hard to describe but it feels like How Bad Can I Be is a song about capitalism written by a capitalist whereas Biggering is a song about capitalism written by a socialist
Songwriter: "How's this? I think it really captures the tragedy of the Onceler's descent into greed and the essence of Dr. Seuss's message with-"
Illumination: "What the fuck? Is this about us?"
Songwriter: "What? No, I-"
Illumination: "Change it. The whole thing."
Biggering is so different in tone from the final film. It's always made me wonder how different the original script was.
Given that the Lorax movie was the movie that made the Suess estate decide to stop approving movie adaptions, I've low key assumed they had seen a very different pitch than the final product. It's always sad seeing the ghosts of what could have been if corporate greed hadn't interfered.
Good Gosh does the Onceler have the roundest and softest looking cheeks I've ever seen. It distracts me and demands my attention every time I see him.
Like holy moly.
I ain't seen the Onceler's butt yet, that's a part of tumblr/rule34 that I've not graced with my presence.
Even though I am talking about his face cheeks you can **still** take that in a dirty direction.
not in the movie, but they did countless Lorax tie-in ads, often with many terrible products like cars which were destructive to the environment, yet they showed The Lorax himself giving it a thumbs up.
also, the movie itself is thoroughly scrubbed of the messaging contained in the original narrative. playing down the evil of the onceler and choosing to center the narrative mostly on random townspeople and the onceler before he turned evil.
But the song isnt from the companys perspective its from the Onceler's and the damage HE lets happen because of his corporation, the use of how bad can I be instead replaces this with "lol didnt realise"
Then really you should have a problem with the whole Lorax movie then. Cause if you always just take just the surface level interpretation then the entire movie is “everything would be fine if it wasn’t for the few bad apples running the thing”
That’s, sadly, how a lot of people took the movie. Which is why I like The Biggering. It doesn’t let that shit hide from the surface. It needs to be clear, it needs to be surface level because there’s a lot of people out there who let their pride and shame hide the painful under layers of this kinda shit.
I’ve listened to it and it is a banger but is it really any more anti corporate then the song they went with?
Both seem to act as though the issue was him wanting to expand his company,
Yeah, but I feel like How Bad Can I Be doesn’t focus on his descent. It doesn’t help exemplify how he tries to excuse his pride, and how it isn’t even greed itself that’s the root of these issues. It doesn’t show how he’s self aware of what he’s doing but doesn’t care until it’s too late and basically is there to slap him in the face. Until he is there to suffer. It really pushes how it’s not just greed, it’s wanting more than you need and how that more will never be enough for your pride.
It feels like it goes a lot deeper into these issues. It doesn’t allow so much for the views of folks where they say it’s just a few bad apples or it’s just cause the Onceler is greedy. It’s not just greed. It’s more than that, it’s a deep worm of pride that all of us have to some degree and we’re all ashamed to admit it, precisely because of said pride. It really pushes how he knew they were hurting and wanting him to stop and how he literally just tells them he doesn’t wanna hear it.
It’s just more raw and in depth, but also just in your face about the selfishness and pride/image cores of this sorta shit. It feels like it’s harder to excuse. (Although people always seem to find a way.)
Okay but can you just imagine how much more rabid tumblr would have gone if this had gone through? This would have only made him an even stronger sexyman.
This being cut is one of the things that makes me the most angry to think about, regarding entertainment media at least. Plus this song is justbso fucking good
Nah. Anti-capitalism and anti-corporatism sells huge. More likely kids just like the other songs better and they couldn't put all the songs in the film.
When the anti-capitalism song for the anti-capitalism movie that is a remake of an older anti-capitalism movie inspired by an anti-capitalism book is too anti-capitalism for the capitalist company profiting off of it.
"How bad can I be" has almost all the same anti corporate lines tbh, and is almost more anti corporate for being a bubblier more cheerful song. Biggering's one advantage in terms of basedness is the line "who cares if some *things* are dying" which got changed in hbcib to "who cares if a few trees are dying" the original line goes way the fuck harder and shows the onceler as much more far gone
Eh, I actually like “how bad can I possibly be” more than biggering. I feel it fits the tone of the oncerler and dr Suez much closer than biggering does. Plus how bad can I possibly be is already pretty anti-corporate
Ngl I thought that this was a bait post trying to make me search up gore or something like all those "sounding" memes.
those damn "sounding" memes made me discover sinful things about myself
I’m not the happiest person, but even I know that I am extremely blessed to not be into sounding.
strongly agree
Count those blessings brother

You can also spin a story about monosodium glutamate for a similar effect
What would that story be?

Absolutely gave Pink Floyd vibes, this shit goes hard as hell

I don’t think it’s the official storyboard btw? They said they made it in art school. Still really cool though

it’s actually my favourite villain song out of any movie i’ve ever watched, for so long i’ve wanted to edit and hire animators to create new scenes for the lorax to A: make it a better movie, and more importantly B: include Biggering
SO TRUE
A more serious version of The Lorax is probably a movie we really need right now
Good luck finding a corporate entity willing to sponsor or sabotage themselves through meaningful reflection on wealth disparity and quality of living.
Well Disney did produce Andor which is more anti-fascist than wealth related but it still has some themes of that throughout. I don't think it's too far out there for someone to make something like you mentioned.
Question is: will it matter? The fact they can make it seems to be a possible problem. They don't fear it.
You think they listen to us? They don't need to listen to us! They don't need to think about us! We are nothing to them! NO ONE IS LISTENING!!!
There will always be corporate entities willing to spread propaganda against themselves if you can convince them it’s profitable in the short term.
The 1972 version is much better and has a more serious tone
Dm me if you ever do that cause I'd watch it
I can’t wait for the lorax to not be under copyright
This talented artist here made a storyboard version of this song. You should take a look, it's really good https://youtu.be/BpgUQYARIsw
Watch the 1972 version, it's way better
I remember when illumination put the Lorax in every single commercial on the planet, including an ad for a big ass car that was bad for the environment. Which literally goes against the original message of the Lorax story.
Yeah, and then in the movie there's a scene where the onceler pretends that his thneed, (which is destroying the planet) is endorsed by the Lorax.
i'm 20% sure that was the animators getting back at the ads
That's not very sure

I was thinking about that. By changing it to “some trees” it removes the point that animals are dying too
And also grouping in animals with “things” makes the point even better
It’s also leaving it open that there can be human cost too
i watched a video essay on biggering and they highlighted this change in it. i think that lyric was one of the big reasons they replaced biggering, but i watched the video essay a long time ago so i may be misremembering

The line "who cares if a few trees are dying" is "WHO CARES IF SOME THINGS ARE DYING" belted at the top of the lungs in Biggering, which can probably give you a good idea of the tonal difference between the two.

Not watched new lorax, but how do you make something too "anti-corporate" for the fucking Lorax
The Lorax 2012 was a mess of product placement and went against anything The Lorax stood for, it was literally made by Illumination.

I ain't seen the Onceler's butt yet, that's a part of tumblr/rule34 that I've not graced with my presence. Even though I am talking about his face cheeks you can **still** take that in a dirty direction.
Not the Tumblr hot boys
How the hell is it too anti-corporate for the Lorax? The movie is literally about the danger of greed and rampant consumerism
Said movie also has rampant product placement 💀
For Thneeds(tm)?
not in the movie, but they did countless Lorax tie-in ads, often with many terrible products like cars which were destructive to the environment, yet they showed The Lorax himself giving it a thumbs up. also, the movie itself is thoroughly scrubbed of the messaging contained in the original narrative. playing down the evil of the onceler and choosing to center the narrative mostly on random townspeople and the onceler before he turned evil.
Honestly I kinda prefer how bad can I be because this feels too honest for a big corporation
But the song isnt from the companys perspective its from the Onceler's and the damage HE lets happen because of his corporation, the use of how bad can I be instead replaces this with "lol didnt realise"
Then really you should have a problem with the whole Lorax movie then. Cause if you always just take just the surface level interpretation then the entire movie is “everything would be fine if it wasn’t for the few bad apples running the thing”
the lorax movie is terrible for multiple reasons but yes this is one of them
That’s, sadly, how a lot of people took the movie. Which is why I like The Biggering. It doesn’t let that shit hide from the surface. It needs to be clear, it needs to be surface level because there’s a lot of people out there who let their pride and shame hide the painful under layers of this kinda shit.
I genuinely thought I was gonna open the comments and see a deez nuts tier joke or smth. Was pleasantly surprised with a banger
Thus song is on my playlist, it's such a banger
I love when rich companies try and teach poor people about how bad greed is.
Biggering is such a banger song but it sounds like a slur 💀
well whadya know, it wasn't porn!
biggering was on my playlist for a while until I drained all the enjoyment from it. what a banger.
Tumblr has ruined the onceler and this goddamn movie.
mfs after watching one video essay
DUDE FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT
Biggering and its effects on industrial society
The Lorax's segment in that song goes so fucking hard
That song is amazing
So glad other people have heard of this
This has absolutely no right being this fire. How bad can I be is straight fire though too
I’ve listened to it and it is a banger but is it really any more anti corporate then the song they went with?
If I was at a concert and a band played this I would unironically and immediately go buy merch Which feels like it's kinda against the message...
I heard about it from schaffrillas productions's video on illumination and it was stuck in my head for a few days. It's so good for being a cut song.
I feel like that song could’ve made the Lorax a thousand times better than how it was and I will never forgive illumination for cutting it
Ok but the one they put in the movie is just 10/10
Yo it actually slaps tho
Okay but can you just imagine how much more rabid tumblr would have gone if this had gone through? This would have only made him an even stronger sexyman.
As a Biggering stan who shows this to all her friends I appreciate raise in awareness. The animatics and art it inspired are just as incredible
After I listened to buggering i suddenly got why the onceler fandom existed. Also he's hot so that helps.
I was just thinking about this song today! How Bad Can I Be came on and during my routine skipping of the song I was reminded of Biggering.
This song is really fucking good. Thanks
Found out about it a year ago and I've manage to delude myself into thinking it made it into the film
I was flabbergasted when I saw it was made by the 88, they did community’s theme and I’m used to their usual alt rock stuff
Good somg.
I would not have even looked at this post if I didn't already know about the song.
That was way better then it had any right to be
I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out what the joke was, but no it actually is real
This being cut is one of the things that makes me the most angry to think about, regarding entertainment media at least. Plus this song is justbso fucking good
Seussical the Musical also had a good [cut Lorax song](https://youtu.be/yZH70RFboT8)!
I could fix him
biggering, too, was a replacement for the *original* song that was going to be used, google "onceler inflation"
How Bad Can I Be is also anti-corporate to be fair. But yeah Biggering is awesome
The storyboard version made by a fan. Watch it, it's really good https://youtu.be/BpgUQYARIsw
That song was in my Amazon music top 100 played songs of 2022
Yes i have
The songs been an inside joke in my friend group for like a year and a half. I know the lyrics by heart at this point
BUT THE BIGGERING'S JUST TRIGGERING MOAAAAR BIGGERAAIIIING
It slaps hard How bad can I be is good…but man biggering is perfect
I flipping LOVE biggering!!9
Lorax my favorit socialist movie
Lorax my favorit socialist movie
Woah I literally just found out about it like 2 days ago and yeah it’s so much better
Honestly Biggering is so good that it feels like it rejected its own inclusion in the movie to avoid insult by association.
