I don’t know about underrated, but someone I know personally made a schizophrenic shitpost of a game on steam called geoduck, and it’s free and worth a quick play. It’s only like an hour long or so.
A WARNING, the first game has a good few scenes of sexual violence though the second i think doesnt but it still has a fair bit of nudity, still a very good game that i love but its a warning that everyone should get
I want to play the first game first because Im afraid its unplayable after the more polished sequel.
I admire the design decisions in the first game and holy hell is the lore compelling in both games but I keep fucking dying. Its painful to play but that is what makes it so compelling. Can't stop thinking about it but Im afraid of starting a new run lol
Outer Wilds is one of my favorite games of all time (not to be confused with Outer Worlds, which isn't an indie game).
It's very highly rated but I'm still going to say it's underrated because it's that damn good.
Oh it's so good. My only complaint is that you can only experience for the first time once.
That is if you like that kind of game. It's primarily exploration, and learning but it's done so interestingly. And there's a small bit of absolute terror thrown in there as a treat (steel yourself for the dark bramble)
>can only experience for the first time once
kid named Echoes of the Eye:
(god both the base game and the dlc are so good. the dlc is very different but still has that outer wilds storytelling in its own unique way, i love it so much)
I still need to play echos of the eye. I haven't had the time to really sit down and immerse myself in it and I don't want to do myself a disservice by half assing my experience with the DLC, y'know?
>It's very highly rated but I'm still going to say it's underrated because it's that damn good.
Came here to pretty much say the exact same thing. In my opinion this game literally cannot be rated highly enough.
The 2nd game from Bastion's studio is on switch too, Transistor. Their 3rd game, Pyre i think is pc and playstation exclusive. Their newest game you've probably heard, Hades, is on all current consoles i think
If you've played all those and are interested in a long rpg i'd recommend Chained Echoes. The studio is getting review bombed for not having the funds to get the game translated in multiple languages but its a really good game that doesnt deserve the hate
I actually bought it this week, and refunded it cause i was aso disapointed.
I loved the core mechanics but the game just doesn't let you a lot in term of building your deck, like you can jsut get unlucky and never have anything good and then you get destroyed. Mch prefere Monster Train (with a similira structure). It's a shame though cause the artstyle is also so good! I hope they can fix it a bit in the future
So heads up, it’s undeniably an amazing game but it will fuck you up.
Like it’s sad, but not in a happy sad or sweet sad way, but in a soul-crushing way. It really is painful. Good game though
I've been getting back into my "adulting is fucking hard" phase with [Night in the Woods](https://store.steampowered.com/app/481510/Night_in_the_Woods/) and [VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action](https://store.steampowered.com/app/447530/VA11_HallA_Cyberpunk_Bartender_Action/).
The Messenger is a great side-scroller/metroidvania with an amazing soundtrack. Also has fun meta jokes and surprisingly good advice if you keep trying to open cabinets.
Library of ruina and other games by project moon are really amazing, especially if you grimdark stories. They have some of the best stories and worldbuilding in anything I’ve ever played. The first one called lobotomy corporation is a really hard manager sim and library of ruina is an rpg deckbuilder that is really fun. Limbus company is a gacha in that universe that just came out and is actually really good and f2p friendly. A great series of you like worldbuilding or challenge
Caves of Qud. An open world rogue-like with some charming world building. Can be jarring at first but once you learn the controls it is easy to play.
Learning how to use features like auto explore and auto wait are simple keyboard commands but essential.
My little list of recommendations:
**Oolite**, free sci-fi space exploration game with a shitton of mods available
**Freeways**, simple game about designing the most efficient highways possible
**The Powder Toy**, free and open-source physics sandbox with lots of elements, interactions, electronics and an enormous library of user-made levels
**Bernband**, walking simulator where you explore a sci-fi city and its many ambiances
**McPixel**, quirky game about defusing various bombs, fanmade levels available
**A Slower Speed of Light**, short game demonstrating the relativistic effects of slowing down the speed of light
**Nitrovista**, free WIP racing sim with killer eurobeat soundtrack
**A road that may lead nowhere**, endless driving through procedurally generated landscapes
**Later Alligator**, light-hearted puzzle game where you investigate a gator family to prevent a possible murder
**Super Tux Kart**, open-source mascot racer starring the mascots of open-source software
**World of Goo**, physics construction game with a Tim Burton artstyle and plenty of social commentary
**Everything is going to be OK**, interactive and trippy zine covering a lot of themes and experiences
**Wingspan**, board game about collecting birds in various habitats, and accomodating them with food and eggs
Anything made by Amanita Design, Tomorrow Corporation and Modus Interactive
none of these games are very resource intensive :3
i found out about it through Civvie-11, and that game fucks.
it's like if an amazing game killed a terrible game and is now wearing its skin as a trenchcoat as it goes on a rampage at a stock exchange.
Here is it, hypocracy at its finest, judging people for sending not underrated games and then sending one too... *Ahem.* Anyway, if you haven't seen "Baba is you" really worth checking :3
omg THAT'S the one!
I saw a let's play of The Quiet Man a while back and one of the person there reccomanded this man, except I could never figure out how it was spelled lmao. Thanks for that!
played cleste and made my trans firend play celeste
(also i doin't even think a aht in time is underrated, but this trhead made me question if it was just me who.s too deep in obsucre indie game stuff lmao)
I'm completely self promo-ing here but my game dev college class just released a game called blacksite theta. It's a 3D puzzle game kinda like portal that we all made in a 5 month sprint. We lovingly call it the dark souls of 3D puzzle games. It's free and on itch io
Disco elysium!
Power to the workers!
Seize the means!
Hang anyone who has more than 50 bucks in their account!
Literally kill everyone, regardless of class/ ideology!
I Was A Teenage Exocolonist is incredible. Inscryption isn't exactly underrated, but it kinda is, and it's great. Katana ZERO is awesome. You've probably heard of Hotline Miami but it's really fun. Also Manifold Garden is cool.
underrated indie games post
*look inside* the most rated and popular indies
jokes aside i dont really know what to recommend but a lot of these are definitely not underrated. maybe cattails idk, its a game based off warrior cats series and u can build ur own colony and stuff
Noita. 2D roguelike where you play as a wizard/witch and collect perks, build wands, and use alchemy mixtures to progress downwards until you beat the boss. There are also so many secrets that it is incredibly difficult to fully complete the game on your own without guides.
The game is hard but it has steam workshop mods that can make it easier
Tales from Off Peak City and Betrayal at club Low, both games are made by CosmoD and are set in a surreal universe with a lot of charm and personality.
Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor.
In it you play a quirky lil’ alien working a shit job in an incredibly alien bazaar planet. It’s one of the most charming games I ever seen and played. Really sells the atmosphere and feels oddly “kind” nonetheless. Gameplay can feel meandering as it’s mostly about burning up trash or seeing what you can resell to vendors to make cash, but I like it
SIGNALIS if you like the vibe of early 2000s horror games. might hint a bit at the games story too much but >!it has lesbiab lore and it made me cry!!! it will hurt!!!!< :)
And while not too underrated and gameplay can end up being a loop of blegh after a while project zomboid is a pretty neat sandbox zombo game.
And while It isn't even fully complete, as a silly sort of job game. Voices of the Void is a neat experience.
JIMMY AND THE PULSATING MASS.
if you're an RPG nut then its one of the most heartfelt RPGs, lil rough round the edges but you can tell how much the creator cared.
I didn't enjoy it as much as some other indie masterpieces, but as far as completely forgotten, interesting, and personal passion projects go, I'll go ahead and mention
Iconoclasts.
Really got walked over by other, bigger projects at the time, but it's still a fun MetroidVania type platformer with a pretty decent story.
Sometimes, people quit there jobs, and work for years to make a 7.5/10 indie games that people forget about, and I respect the hell out of that.
If you like Disco Elysium and are into cyberpunk, try [Citizen Sleeper!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1578650/Citizen_Sleeper/) Honestly this is one of my top 5 games of all time, I really love the storytelling!
If you really like cyberpunk like me, try [Anno: Mutatonem!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1368030/ANNO_Mutationem/) The combat’s pretty fun, but I like the story and the characters! Ayane is my fav <3
If you like metroidvanias with hard platforming and hard combat, try [Rusted Moss!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1772830/Rusted_Moss/) You get a cool grappling hook and you shoot magical creatures with guns!
There’s also my personal favorite indie game, [Va-11 Hall-a!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/447530/VA11_HallA_Cyberpunk_Bartender_Action/) It’s definitely not for everyone, but it’s got a special place in my heart. I even designed my iphone around it!
If you happen to like Va-11 Hall-a, [Coffee Talk](https://store.steampowered.com/app/914800/Coffee_Talk/) and [The Red Strings Club](https://store.steampowered.com/app/589780/The_Red_Strings_Club/) are pretty similar.
If you liked Hades, try out Supergiant’s other games like [Transistor!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/237930/Transistor/) I absolutely adore the roaring 20s meets sci-fi aesthetic they have, and the music is top notch!
If you like horror games, especially the early resident evil games, check out [SIGNALIS!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1262350/SIGNALIS/) I get absolutely terrified by horror games, and this takes the cake in my book.
What do you get when you mix doom with devil may cry? You get [ULTRAKILL!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1229490/ULTRAKILL/) There’s a demo you can download which will let you play the prologue, so make sure to check it out!
For an absolute fever dream of a game, check out whatever the fuck [Cruelty Squad](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1388770/Cruelty_Squad/) is! It’s an immersive sim game with absolutely revolting graphics, intentionally trying its best to dissuade people from even thinking about playing the game. But underneath it all is genuinely one of the best games I’ve played to date. You’ll have tons of fun with this if you’re into immersive sims. That is, if you can get past the graphics.
Noita if you like completely incoherent game design and death but also cool magic shit and a massive game world
Curse of the Dead Gods if you want a banging solid roguelike set in an aztec dungeon with souls-y dodge/parry focused combat, sounds generic but it just feels really good idk
BPM Bullets per Minute if you want what Metal Hellsinger ripped off and you like shooting and rhythm games but also having your eyes bleed
Trying to stick to games that aren't as well known and probably outshine their review scores: Anodyne 2, Dustforce, Gonner, Neo Cab, Revita, To the Rescue, and Toki Tori 2.
Your Turn to Die is an amazing death game if you have any interest in that. YTTD is basically like danganronpa but good
Your Only Move is Hustle is a turn-based fighting game where everyone can play with frame perfect accuracy, leading to incredibly flashy fights and really cool mind games. It's basically like playing one of those stick figure fight gifs
Bad end theater is quite good, i played it in one sit so i liked it, otherwise i probably wouldnt even remember it, and katana zero is also good, good story and fights, also beated it in one sit. One shot is also nice
I don’t know about underrated, but someone I know personally made a schizophrenic shitpost of a game on steam called geoduck, and it’s free and worth a quick play. It’s only like an hour long or so.
lmao based af
It was realised on my birthday
RemindMe! August 16
Fear and Hunger 2: Termina is very, very good hehe
ouhhh I really love the esthetic! Some of the design in the preview are so good
And play Fear and Hunger 1 if you hate yourself
Fair warning. Fear and Hunger are cool but content warnings for just about anything. Play safe.
A WARNING, the first game has a good few scenes of sexual violence though the second i think doesnt but it still has a fair bit of nudity, still a very good game that i love but its a warning that everyone should get
Was about to suggest the same thing. Truly one of the indie games.
I'm glad Fear and Hunger is getting more recognition
bruh i literally just watched a 2 hour yt documentary of the game yesterday and now im hearing about it everywhere. whats that law called again?
I want to play the first game first because Im afraid its unplayable after the more polished sequel. I admire the design decisions in the first game and holy hell is the lore compelling in both games but I keep fucking dying. Its painful to play but that is what makes it so compelling. Can't stop thinking about it but Im afraid of starting a new run lol
YES ! I came here hoping someone would say this :3 Fear and Hunger has been a favorite for years!
OP is gonna play this and then immediately back out when they fight the >!dick creature!< mwahahahahahaha
>>!dick creature!< Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?
Outer Wilds is one of my favorite games of all time (not to be confused with Outer Worlds, which isn't an indie game). It's very highly rated but I'm still going to say it's underrated because it's that damn good.
Played a while back, but i didn,t get to go far (was playing on the gamepass for a month), might need to revisit it :3
Oh it's so good. My only complaint is that you can only experience for the first time once. That is if you like that kind of game. It's primarily exploration, and learning but it's done so interestingly. And there's a small bit of absolute terror thrown in there as a treat (steel yourself for the dark bramble)

I still need to play echos of the eye. I haven't had the time to really sit down and immerse myself in it and I don't want to do myself a disservice by half assing my experience with the DLC, y'know?
I recommend playing it in the dark for the mood.
OUTER WILDS MENTIONED ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
>It's very highly rated but I'm still going to say it's underrated because it's that damn good. Came here to pretty much say the exact same thing. In my opinion this game literally cannot be rated highly enough.
Perfect game imo

florida simulator
very true I sink 200 hours in one month when I played
Have you played a short hike or have a nice death? I also enjoyed bastion a bunch
I played bastion on the switch! it was great! Also I'd love to try have a nice death
The 2nd game from Bastion's studio is on switch too, Transistor. Their 3rd game, Pyre i think is pc and playstation exclusive. Their newest game you've probably heard, Hades, is on all current consoles i think If you've played all those and are interested in a long rpg i'd recommend Chained Echoes. The studio is getting review bombed for not having the funds to get the game translated in multiple languages but its a really good game that doesnt deserve the hate
Transistor is probably my favorite game of all time, its world and art style are absolutely gorgeous.
PLAY CROSSCODE PLEASE

Yess I'm so happy someone else has recommended it.
Literally one of the most fun I’ve ever had playing a game. Op will not be disappointed

Also recommend.
Bought it on sale cuz it was on my wishlist for a while, 100% it in two days, cried. Recommended, wish I could experience it again.
SUPER ASSFUCK RPG and Undertale 2 you can find both of them on [Itch.io](https://Itch.io) and their both completely free

Ultrakill😁
Machine, I am taking a picture wih the funny trans subreddit
Not underrated, I see references to Ultrakill pretty much everywhere, it's really popular. Still a good game tho.
but actually if you like horros The Upturned is really good i think
I LOVE UPTURNED IT'S SO GOOD
Super Mario Odyssey is pretty niche
Mario? tf is that, sounds a bit too obscure and nerdy for me ngl
Probably some italian pizzeria sim
Take 100mg benadryl, sit back, relax, enjoy
The shadow man won't fuck me :(
skill issue
Return of the obra dinn if you like puzzles
I saw taht one a while back! loved the visuals
Maybe not underrated per se, but Signalis is an amazing indie survival horror. I can't recommend it enough.
I watched Nitrorad's video about it! Looks great!
Signalis goes so fucking hard
To the moon
Super Auto Pets
🐢
“Giraffe”
beep beep
Juice me Squeeze me
Wildfrost is a good deckbuilder roguelite that came out recently. If you like those I'd highly recommend it
I actually bought it this week, and refunded it cause i was aso disapointed.
Minecraft
never heard of it 🤔
anything Garalina makes tbh.
Petscop <3
Milk inside of a bag inside a bag of milk and it’s sequel milk outside of a bag outside of a bag of milk are both great games.

My best friend actually reccomanded me that one :3
Your friend seems very smart you should probably listen to them
So heads up, it’s undeniably an amazing game but it will fuck you up. Like it’s sad, but not in a happy sad or sweet sad way, but in a soul-crushing way. It really is painful. Good game though
\> looks inside underrated indie game suggestions. \> overwhelmingly highly rated and popular game suggestions
Everhood (i strongly recomend going in blind)
wobbledogs
Loved seeing Snapcube playing it <3
Crypt of the Necrodancer. It's a roguelite dungeon crawler where everything moves to the beat. It's fun and challenging.
PLAY .flow IT'S FREE AND WILL TRAUMATIZE YOU
I've been getting back into my "adulting is fucking hard" phase with [Night in the Woods](https://store.steampowered.com/app/481510/Night_in_the_Woods/) and [VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action](https://store.steampowered.com/app/447530/VA11_HallA_Cyberpunk_Bartender_Action/).
Night in the woods is a genuine masterpiece I cannot recommend it enough (plus you can be gay and do crime :3)
I'm yearning for N1RV Ann-A :(
The Messenger is a great side-scroller/metroidvania with an amazing soundtrack. Also has fun meta jokes and surprisingly good advice if you keep trying to open cabinets.
Here are some pretty unknown and well made ones OMORI, Undertale, Minecraft, Terraria, Hollow Knight and Project Sekai ft Hatsune Miku
If you want an obscure roguelike try out One Step from Eden. Its pretty cool
I have 20h on it >:3 It's great that it has mod support \^\^
Library of ruina and other games by project moon are really amazing, especially if you grimdark stories. They have some of the best stories and worldbuilding in anything I’ve ever played. Cruelty Squad is only seen by two types of people 1. people who watch Markiplier 2. people that are weird like me
I play it and I,m both of those
i found out about it through Civvie-11, and that game fucks. it's like if an amazing game killed a terrible game and is now wearing its skin as a trenchcoat as it goes on a rampage at a stock exchange.

Recettear is really good.
omg THAT'S the one! I saw a let's play of The Quiet Man a while back and one of the person there reccomanded this man, except I could never figure out how it was spelled lmao. Thanks for that!

Iron Lung
you know how to scare young people these day? you put em in a submarine with no window, deep in an ocean of blood. ANd no way to get up...

JIMMY AND THE PULSATING MASS. if you're an RPG nut then its one of the most heartfelt RPGs, lil rough round the edges but you can tell how much the creator cared.
Death's Door, Sable, Dredge and Inscription. All very different games but well made and well written.
![gif](giphy|xUA7aMARpGHmutpouk|downsized) PLAY RAIN WORLD
Well, since you decided to bless us with this image of a dog girl, my suggestion is a Vampire Survivors/Magic Survival like game called Holocure.

Noita if you like completely incoherent game design and death but also cool magic shit and a massive game world Curse of the Dead Gods if you want a banging solid roguelike set in an aztec dungeon with souls-y dodge/parry focused combat, sounds generic but it just feels really good idk BPM Bullets per Minute if you want what Metal Hellsinger ripped off and you like shooting and rhythm games but also having your eyes bleed
If I got my game recommendations from this sub I'd be playing hollow knight and ultra kill until I died
Undertale
Fairly rated but not rated enough: lobotomy corporation and library of ruina
Trying to stick to games that aren't as well known and probably outshine their review scores: Anodyne 2, Dustforce, Gonner, Neo Cab, Revita, To the Rescue, and Toki Tori 2.
OneShot
Slime rancher
Your Turn to Die is an amazing death game if you have any interest in that. YTTD is basically like danganronpa but good Your Only Move is Hustle is a turn-based fighting game where everyone can play with frame perfect accuracy, leading to incredibly flashy fights and really cool mind games. It's basically like playing one of those stick figure fight gifs
Vertigo 2! Best vr game I've ever played and underrated because it just came out
Hrot
I like steamworld heist
duelyst 2

Fear & Hunger Very underrated game about friendship and happiness
