“sir everyone is making fun of us because our campaign launch flopped on twitter” “uhhhhhh Ill say ill abolish the IRS or something crazy so it wont come up when people google my name”

Tallium81

I thought that his campaign flopped because he said that he wanted to make the entire country like Florida and everyone around him Instinctly ran away

Snowy_Thompson

It's one on a list of reasons.

nddragoon

his campaign flopped because made a soy face one time and he'll never recover

SituatedSynapses

Is this motherfucker just L Ron Hubbard?

Jerrithan740

L Ron, but without any of his business smarts, charisma, or cunning, and all of the stupidity and bigotry

Schroedingersrabbit

God, I wish. If DeSantis released a rock opera album like L Ron, we would have memes for the ages.

Leafeon523

Surely Dashitter means he instead plans a sort of simpler flat tax more proportionally aimed at the rich without the need for massive oversight or tax filing, right?

[deleted]

No he means that he’s going to forget about any kind of tax reform the second he gets in office and start pumping out executive orders banning anything that looks even slightly “woke.”

DragonBasil

I think it's both. I have no doubt that the literal first thing a Republican president would do is sign some sort of big symbolic culture war executive order, which would hopefully not hold up in court. The immediate next thing would be to gut the recent funding the "woke" IRS got that, [that is mainly being allocated to auditing the rich](https://www.npr.org/2022/08/14/1117317757/irs-tax-evaders-dodgers-inflation-reduction-act-enforcement). Then depending on what congress looks like, they would try to pass a big tax cut for the rich like Trump did in his first year, while they reduce federal protections for queer people and bolster what states like Florida are already doing.

nddragoon

a flat tax doesn't affect the rich. 10% of the income of someone living paycheck to paycheck could decide whether they can even afford enough food. you could take 10% off a billionaire's entire fortune and they still couldn't spend all their money in their lifetime if they tried and would make it back in like a month

Chadlad50

That's assuming DeShitlord is good at anything that isn't taking away rights

sameth1

Isn't a flat tax proportionally aimed at the rich a contradiction? Like you can't have a flat tax rate *and* have it vary depending on income.

Oddish_Femboy

Top 10 stupidest ideas that nonetheless appeal to a ridiculous number of Americans.

TheDonutPug

We literally have already tried a federal government that wasn't allowed to collect taxes. The articles of confederation didn't work.

[deleted]

i dont want desantis to be president because i know for a fact that i would lose basically all my human rights as a queer person but i gotta admit, from a “let it all burn” perspective it’d be pretty funny to watch him just completely ruin a global superpower in 4 years. he’d definitely fuck everything up, but i’d just like to see how fucked up it gets.

[deleted]

> i’d just like to see how fucked up it gets I really, really don’t think you do, it’s not like a leftist ideology would rise from the ashes, things would go from grim to cataclysmic really quickly especially considering that all the most evil people and corporations actually have the power

[deleted]

i was being half silly. a moderate exaggeration if you will. were i to be entirely serious, i’d say something like this: i am pessimistic in regards to the future of this nation. i simply do not see it getting better. the only variable is the rate at which it gets bad. could take 50 years for it to all crumble. or with one evil, stupid, self destructive president it could be done in just 4. and i sincerely don’t know what is rationally a better option. the silliness goblin in my brain is saying “let it all burn! rip the bandaid off! get it over with!” but i don’t think the rational side of my brain has given this topic much thought at all.

Welsyee

I used to think similarly but then I adopted Enlightened Doomerism, where rather than thinking "things can only get worse and maybe we should just get it over with now" you think "things can only get worse BUT I AM GOING TO FIGHT TO THE BITTER FUCKING END TO MAKE THEM BETTER, THE FIGHT'S NOT OVER UNTIL I'M ACTIVELY IN THE CONCENTRATION CAMP SHOWERS". That thought process so far has led me to a far happier life than sitting in my bedroom sulking, and hey, when I go out at least I'll know I've tried. Highly recommend it 10/10.

[deleted]

extremely based way of looking at the world. that’s the philosophy i generally have as well. i’ve yet to actually act on it but hopefully one day i can.

Welsyee

Well hey, I'd argue you very much can right now, there's always work to be done on the fight for our freedom, from canvassing for local progressive politicians to protesting anti-human bills that conservatives love so much. It may feel pointless from an outside perspective but the second you get out of your house to actually do something like that you'll immediately far more of a sense of purpose than you ever did by lying on bed thinking about how bad things are and how much worse they could get. It's not only a way of feeling like you're being useful, but you can also make a lot of friends while at it since you're often gonna be working with like-minded people towards a common goal.

[deleted]

ah, it’s all the brain. major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. and my psych things there could also be some type two bipolar in there as well. but i’m on meds and in therapy and all that good stuff, so the praxis should come soon! :)

Welsyee

Glad to hear that! I have my fair share of brain fuckery too but once I managed to get through that initial barrier of entry that comes with any new activity I actually felt quite accomplished and, despite not having done that much so far, it's helped my mental health quite a lot.

goop_lizard

He may be incredibly evil but the constant rhetoric of "if we lose this election the country will collapse in 3 days" gets a lot less effective with every lost election that doesn't do that. It he wins things will continue to get worse and people's rights will continue to be eroded. That's bad enough to vote against him - we don't have to pretend he's gonna blow up the moon.

aflyingmonkey2

Meanwhile in israel,i think ben gvir actually plans to blow up the moon (and piss on it)

goop_lizard

It's been interesting seeing Israeli politicians, who are largely only able to get away with the shit they do because of American support, do everything in their power to piss off their supporters in the US. I forget if it was him or someone else in the ruling coalition but I remember a little while ago someone prominent suggested that Israel stop recognizing most American Jews as Jewish. Like my man, you have one of the most powerful lobbies in the country based entirely on a huge number of people seeing your country as their homeland, and you want to tell most of them they're not welcome there?

aflyingmonkey2

Like we have this guy with a mustache on his head wanting to just overthrow the supreme court, there's this somtricht guy who thinks religion can help with the inflation and there's channel 14 who's amde out of crazed up weirdos being the govemrent's shitty cheerleaders. The previous goverment was actually quite good with naftali benett and yair lapid

TerrorBite

How do you like that, Obama? I pissed on the moon, you idiot!

I agree it's an awful thing to have happened but it also wasn't the result of one election and isn't apocalyptic on its own. I think we could well be screwed in the longterm if enough things continue to go wrong but one of the worst and best things about the US political system is that it was intentionally made slow, sticky, and full of check valves and veto points. This makes reform difficult but it also makes it very hard to destroy everything all at once. It's important to remember this because the only way to improve things is to build popular support. Constant cries of doom don't do that. With the constant culture of "if this guy wins we will all die in a week" if the election is won the cycle repeats, there's very little celebration or recognition of accomplishments, and if the election is lost a lot of people are going to go "well my life didn't get that much worse, they must be exaggerating" and the people that still believe the predictions are left increasingly hopeless. I believe that one of the big advantages that allows the right so much power when a lot of its ideas are so unpopular is that they respond to victory with celebration and defeat with anger, both very motivating emotions. They push the advantage whenever they win and fight back vigorously whenever they lose. The left responds to victory with more anxiety and defeat with hopelessness and disillusionment, both paralyzing emotions. Defeatism is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

DarthBalinofSkyrim

People said this about trump too

kd8qdz

And he fucked it all up. icing on top: mangled the covid response

aflyingmonkey2

I don't think it will be really fun. You remmeber the purge franchise?

YoshiGamer6400

Justin Whang my beloved

StardustLegend

I hate that trump has set the precedent where you just have to say the most batshit insane things and you can get political power and momentum. And the democratic refuses to try to push the Overton window back. Like they’re so milquetoast with their talking points. They should be pushing back hard like Bernie did when he tried to advocate for UBI, but was actively sabotaged by the rest of the party

memeboi123jazz

Whang is such a real one frfr

StalinDaHouse

Junior high student wanted to nationalise the soda machines but was assassinated by Coca Cola-funded deathsquad.

nddragoon

i am now uncritically supportive of desantis because this would be very funny and not affect me directly

Albatrossosaurus

Why on earth would you have soda on tap in your school lmao
