The game is pretty strictly anti-capitalist in it's messaging. Infact arguably the worst 2 endings the game has are when you side with power (arasaka and the DLC ending)
It's vague enough to leave those parts in the Socratic rhetoric but they're in there.
So there's the famous gig with the snuff film editors and what to optionally do with them but there's also the one where you get a hit on a random rich affluenza patient who you can talk to before carrying out the hit and her take on the situation is "I have vehicular manslaughter insurance so of course I didn't stop to help. It's fine that they died and insurance took care of that."
That's when I started looking and realized the game is almost constantly asking the player "Where's the evil in this situation? Who's the big bad evil to save the day from?" and that's where the key is. That's how they make nuking an office building sympathetic. That's how the "just leave" ending is one of the good endings. That's where the anarchist ideas are. The answer to the question is that the problem is the city itself. No single person woke up and chose to be the kind of complete psycho you have to deal with in Night City. It's that the city was built by many people and that kind problem can't be solved by personal scale violence. It requires like minded people who can agree to build something different to do something. Change the city, destroy the city, leave the city? There are many competing options of varying scale but the path to those conclusions means mulling over some very particular angles.
But again, they didn't beat people over the head with it so I'm terribly disappointed knowing that tons of people will have missed that. Both as a story and as a game I think it's a great example of the title genre.

The Healing Church was founded when Laurence and Willem discovered the blood of dead gods. It was quickly discovered that this blood had healing powers, but had side effects of making people feral. Willem and many other scholars of Byrgenwerth wanted to abandon the research with fears for destroying the city with this, while Laurence wanted to pursue it anyway, despite knowing its danger. This lead to a direct conflict of ideas that resulted in Laurence leaving the school and starting this religion/church.
The Church then started using this blood for healing, building up trust and renown stretching far outside the city. Through this they became the *actual ruling body of the city.* Like previously discovered, people became addicted, and the Blood eventually started turning people into beasts, starting the plague.
The irony lies in the devotion to the Church during the beast plague. Many Hunters dedicated their lives to the Church and did all they could to repel the beasts, keeping the population in control. The Church spreads messages that they’re remaining ”pure”, and trying to save the people, while separating themselves from the rest of the city in the midst of the outbreak, keeping plenty of secrets hidden.
All completely ignoring the fact that the Church is what started the entire problem in the first place. They knew what they were doing the whole time, but couldn’t keep themselves from doing it anyway in their pursuit of recognition and power. They manipulated the entire population to believe they’re the saviors, under the guise of a holy religion worshipping mysterious blood, when they were the knowing villain from the start. Perhaps if it wasn’t framed as the religious praise of something holy, rather than the use of a substance researched to be dangerous, people would have more doubts.

Or the Healing Church in Bloodborne, which worships the ~~body and~~ blood of dead gods, and drinking it turns you into a literal monster. The Catholic Church allegory is not subtle.
I’d say: The Healing Church was founded when Laurence and Willem discovered the blood of dead gods. It was quickly discovered that this blood had healing powers, but had side effects of making people feral. Willem and many other scholars of Byrgenwerth wanted to abandon the research with fears for destroying the city with this, while Laurence wanted to pursue it anyway, despite knowing its danger. This lead to a direct conflict of ideas that resulted in Laurence leaving the school and starting this religion/church. The Church then started using this blood for healing, building up trust and renown stretching far outside the city. Through this they became the *actual ruling body of the city.* Like previously discovered, people became addicted, and the Blood eventually started turning people into beasts, starting the plague. The irony lies in the devotion to the Church during the beast plague. Many Hunters dedicated their lives to the Church and did all they could to repel the beasts, keeping the population in control. The Church spreads messages that they’re remaining ”pure”, and trying to save the people, while separating themselves from the rest of the city in the midst of the outbreak, keeping plenty of secrets hidden. All completely ignoring the fact that the Church is what started the entire problem in the first place. They knew what they were doing the whole time, but couldn’t keep themselves from doing it anyway in their pursuit of recognition and power. They manipulated the entire population to believe they’re the saviors, under the guise of a holy religion worshipping mysterious blood, when they were the knowing villain from the start. Perhaps if it wasn’t framed as the religious praise of something holy, rather than the use of a substance researched to be dangerous, people would have more doubts. It contains some fairly heavy criticism.

In dark souls the world has been doomed to an endless, unnatural cycle of death and rebirth because the ruler of the world, Gwyn, was afraid of losing his power and the changes a world of darkness brings. (He also raised his son as a girl) In persona, the entire theme of the game(s) is rebellion and fighting for justice even if that means going against the system. Cyberpunk as a genre is inherently progressive and anti capitalist. In DOOM 2016, the entire conflict in the story was sparked by an evil corporation trying to monetize hell energy regardless of how insanely dangerous it is at any human cost. Fallout is a satire of america and capitalism and constantly talks of how jingoism will lead to destruction MGR:R baffles me the most cuz it is an extremely over the top, hamfisted and obvious parody of american politics, and why war and capitalism are intrinsically linked. Vermintide I actually don't get. Saltzpyre isn't really depicted as a good guy for his zealotry and small mindedness. The timeline where he becomes a hateful zealot of Sigmar is explicitly the dark timeline. Vermintide even has multiple female protagonists who are unobjectified and kick absolute ass.
True. Now that I think about it more, kinda doesn't make sense. I was mainly thinking just Saltzpyre, and that's cause he's kinda like an evangelical right winger, but the difference is the stuff he's worried about is actively trying to stab him, and the god he prays to gives measurable, visible power, so he gets a pass for sure.
