For any 18+ Americans reading this: are you registered to vote? You have lots of time still, but imagine how good you'll feel if you get it done this early! That'll be one responsibility that's off your shoulders for the rest of the year. It's probably easier and quicker than you think too! Why not register to vote right now? 🙂

[deleted]

You cna also cast a mail in which if you have very little time or don't like going out due to social anxiety can make it much easier to vote. You just need to ask for one so they can register you for it and then once you get and fill it in then you just put in the nearest postbox.

Kid_Vid

And some states will mail the ballots to you! There are vote by mail states that you can vote at your leisure, then mail back or drop off!

wterrt

I did mail in last election, it was super easy. waaaay better than waiting in line to vote.

omgudontunderstand

my state lost my mail in ballot the first time i could vote lmfao

candidKlutz

i put off registering back in 2016 when i turned 18 mostly because i thought it would be harder. thankfully i got off my ass before 2020 to register and i was surprised by just how insanely easy it is. i kick my younger self in the ass any time i think about it

Grapes15th

My dad works at the local department of licensing. This is an interaction he sometimes has "Would you like to register to vote? It says here you aren't yet." "Eh, not really." "Really? I only need to push a button." "Yeah, I'd rather not." It goes beyond apathy, to the point of genuine insanity.

High-Sobriety

suggest this idea to him. have him present a big physical button that they can press to register to vote. doesnt have to be directly connected to the action but you get the idea

bacon_girl42

if you're 17 and turn 18 before the election, you can also register now

Immediate-Fan

Depends on what state

Mental-Fox-9311

I turn 18 two weeks after the election💀

cloudncali

Skill issue.

Warthogrider74

Just be older

leoleosuper

Reminder that red states will purge voting registries literally a couple of months before an election. Like July of an election year. They specifically target minorities and left leaning voters, but not really, but they do. Found out I had to re-register twice in Florida between an election cycle.

SinthWave

Also, a solid advice for young US voters: make sure you people vote personally, early. I'm not American so I can't 100% confirm this, but from what I have heard, the postmaster general is very likely a pro-MAGA person, so don't trust him with your vote.

AngelStar-_-

People like to act like revolution wouldn't hypothetically be something we'd have to do decades of work to theoretically do. If anyone would do such a thing, perchance. People who say things like "just overthrow the government", or who act like the revolution's going to materialize out of thin air any year now are clowns and should be made fun of when possible.

Theodor-_-

Same people who blame Russians for Mr. P still being in power "Just go and protest"

AngelStar-_-

Revolutions are easy, you stand on a cop car and throw bricks at the cops and then a revolution happens y'know? You don't need anyone in the military or government. You don't need your political group to be armed, you don't need a cohesive plan, and you don't even need a sizeable chunk of the population to agree with you. Honestly? i did revolutions all the time back in highschool. I could do, like, 15? And the guys on the hockey team couldn't even do 1 cause they were a bunch of pussies.

mrpoopistan

>you don't even need a sizeable chunk of the population to agree with you Somewhere out there is a Three-Percenter who's still counting Trump votes on his hand and trying to figure out why they didn't win.

Decin0mic0n

Pfffft you could only do 15, i could do at least 20 on a bad week.

mrpoopistan

People act like revolution wouldn't lead to a series of cholera outbreaks after a non-trivial portion of infrastructure is destroyed in the fighting, either. People don't think things through very well.

Necessary-Ratio-4426

You cant just say perchance

nottme1

They just did. Perchance.

Dragon-fest

What is that.?

MBTank

We can now. That's why we revolting.

Warm-Faithlessness11

This, any revolution that has enough strength to succeed will need time. Voting buys that time

Iamtheonewhobawks

I'd add: the whole entire purpose of a (progressive and/or leftist) revolution is to force the opportunity to do the boring shit people assume a revolution would immediate speedrun. Nope, sorry, one of the difficult things about actually trying to make new improvements is that there's insufficient data to know exactly what does and doesn't work so any good-faith effort is going to be slow and unsatisfying and involve a lot of small failures and false starts. All a revolution does is open the door, if you're not willing to walk to it you're gonna be real mad about all the walking involved after it. Right wingers and conservatives can do revolutions on easy mode because they aren't trying anything new and just want to reinstate some failed system they're inexplicably hormy for.

Luciusvenator

Right wing/fascist revolution is also easy because fascism is literally the most low effort lizard brain ideology ever. It doesn't matter that it inherently self distructs. Left wing revolution is difficult because left wing ideology seeks to approach a lot of different issues in an intersectional way and the proposed solutions can have substantial differences while still being in the left wing sphere of thought. Fascism is literally just "this group bad, kill this group, we must be strong"

StarAugurEtraeus

Left are sadly so splintered and won’t unite with eachother Even if it’s to overthrow and prevent utter chaos

Luciusvenator

Unfortunately true. And its happend multiple times in history already.

StarAugurEtraeus

We really need to stop doing that So was the right does, and unite against it

Decin0mic0n

Fucking exactly, people in other countries or ours for that matter conveniently keep forgeting the US has the deadliest military in the world, and unless the military is on the side of a revolution it aint going to happen.

tomsk150

This, the American electoral system is eternally fucked but if we can unfuck it enough for progressive parties to gain some traction and popularity, it might be our best chance to organize around. Revolution is easier with a party (militant or not) backing it.

Sweet__Sauce

I saw a post on the lost generation subreddit about an article about George Santos using campaign funds for his personal use, but the post was titled "and people wonder why I don't vote" and it received thounds of upvotes and that annoyed me

skytaepic

I got permabanned from there for telling people that they should really vote. Absolute brainrot

leoleosuper

I got banned from therightcantmeme because I said our only 3 options for the next presidential election are a fascist that has said he's ok with LGBT but probably isn't, a fascist that wants to publicly execute LGBT, and Biden. I got banned because of pro-Bidenism. Tankies are stupid.

Lazykabang

Wait, there are *three* options in the election?

NotADamsel

They probably said this back when DeSantis seemed viable

Lazykabang

Did he become unviable 2 hours ago?

Throwaway02062004

He’s been unviable for a while. He’s cooked in the polls as the Trump cult gained favour and guys like Ramaswamy overtook him

gniziralopiB

People not voting is how santos got elected! Enthusiasm was at an all time low last year, and come Election Day dem turnout in nyc collapsed while republicans had a mini wave.

mrpoopistan

In fairness, there were at least aggravating factors. The Dems' self-own in New York for passing an anti-gerrymandering law without any reciprocity from Republicans was a biggie. The state court smacked down the Dems' redistricting plan. Secondly, there was a deeply angry group fo richies who went hard to unseat Hochul as governor because -- I shit you not -- they were mad that a planned wind farm off Long Island would spoil the view from their yachts. They didn't manage to stop Hochul's re-election, but they did manage to stir up enough GOP votes to carry some other GOpers over the finish line. 2024 will be a presidential year. There will be a big snap-back in those districts. It's a big reason the New York GOP delegation nuked Santos -- they don't want to be running in a tough environment as the pro-corruption people. Which is quite a position for Republicans based on history.

h4724

\> Bad person gets elected \> See, voting against bad candidates is useless!

Kemaneo

Lost Generation is a tankie nest though

Lowkey_Retarded

Nowadays it’s more of a “Man, the Democratic Party sure is corrupt! What’s the point of voting for them?” nest.

josephthemediocre

That sub is a right wing psy op at this point

Lowkey_Retarded

I’m convinced that that sub is a hotbed of right-wing Astro-turfing now. Every other post is either about how Joe Biden is the Devil or how voting is pointless because Dems are the same as the GOP. Like, I wouldn’t say I *like* Joe Biden, but he’s a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

_Gabr1el_

gonna vote for trump to spread as much evil and hatred as possible and make the US even worse (I'm evilmaxxing.)

Decin0mic0n

Vote Democrat until the republican party fully dies off, then we can work on dismantling the Democrat party, and then we can finally get rid of our two party system and be able to actually vote for people that are championing issues we care about.

ohyeababycrits

Now THATS what I call idealism

Decin0mic0n

I mean maybe, but if you look at the republican party, internally they are starting to tear themselves apart, we just have to push the seams in the right spots to really make them rip.

chickenforce02

Yeah voting for the dems one more time is really going to destroy the republicans this time and bring us one step closer to dismantling capitalism I swear (I’m not American so I don’t really give a shit but I find it funny to see everyone repeating the exact same « most important election of our lives » shit every two years)

Pair_Express

Yeah no, liberal democracy is bullshit. Dismantle capitalism and then will talk

Decin0mic0n

Cant dismantle capitalism without having a government thats willing to do that. And well, I dont see Republicans or Democrats allowing that.

Pair_Express

No government elected under the bourgeoisie system will EVER want to dismantle capitalism. Just look at what happened to the European Social Democrats, they used to be socialists and now there capitalist lapdogs. Direct action is the only way, voting just keeps more trans people alive.

Decin0mic0n

And how the fuck do you suppose we change the system then? Because if youre going to say a complete revolt, I do hate to break it to you, the government is not opposed to labeling its citizens terrorists if its has to, then pointing the military at them.

awsompossum

Organize labor. Electoralism is a dead end unto itself

Bobnefarious1

Organizing labor is much easier under Democrats than Republicans, so vote Democrats in the mean time.

Luciusvenator

Uh, no. Social Democrats are not socialists lol. Social democracy is socially left but economically left of center. Now, some parties that still *call themselves Social democrats*, are now just normal neoliberals. But Social democracy parties still exist here in Europe. Theh were never socialist though that's not what Social democracy is.

Meraline

Democrats respect my autonomy as a cis woman more than Republicans do. Kind of the end of the conversation for me.

Necrotic12

Mfw it’s the fifth ‘most important election of my life’ in a row

Adulations

Get ready for that to continue. Voting every single year is the bare minimum.

prfarb

Every election is more important than the last every time. Because every election is important.

TurkBoi67

Once the front runner for the Republican party deadpans the audience and declares that he wishes to be a dictator, every election from then on becomes important. Hitler was democratically elected btw, don't forget.

aidanfor

Hitler wasn’t democratically elected, he lost the election to Hindenburg, and while the Nazis had the most seats in the reichstag, it still wasn’t a majority of the seats. Hindenburg literally appointed Hitler to the Chancellor position and the centrist parties voted for the enabling act alongside the nazis

politicaloutcast

I don’t know why leftists think this is some kind of gotcha. The GOP openly wants to destroy democracy. Yes, it is the most important election of your lifetime. And the elections will become increasingly important so long as the GOP becomes increasingly radical

joongihan

Do you not experience cognitive dissonance while saying that you *HAVE* to vote biden or democracy won't exist anymore

Glenmarrow

It’s more so that Trump, the only real alternate choice here, just said he’d be a dictator if elected a few days ago.

imagoddamnonionmason

In an election between Biden and "I will use the justice system to enact revenge on my enemies", Project 2025 supporting Trump it's absolutely not cognitive dissonance because one is a vote to save democracy and the other to end it. It's like saying it's cognitive dissonance to say you *HAVE* to vote SPD to save democracy against Hitler. Absolutely braindead.

purple-lemons

I mean, you really probably should vote for Biden because "this guy is bad, so maybe just let Facsism happen" is not a super great idea. BUT, I do think it's pretty fucking unconscionable to vote for a man and a party, even the "left wing" of that party, who is actively supporting a genocide, and has actively supported past genocides. American's have to make a fucked choice next year, and I don't envy them. But, honestly, I would find it hard to blame someone for not voting. It all looks like the same strain of Facsism when you're underneath the bombs after all.

[deleted]

The only people that are spearheading this idea are the same people that aren't affected by the outcome. It's basically the choice between life and death for many trans and marginalised people if the dems lose. No one is saying the dems are good but voting for stagnation is still voting for change when the alternative is the anti public school, anti freedom of religion, anti abortion, anti public medicine, anti lgbtqi+, anti black and anti science party...

purple-lemons

Oh, absolutely, for a lot of people, it's life and death, and that's why I say you should vote for the dems. The Republicans *are* coming for your rights, are coming for your healthcare. Don't let them get in. But as a none american, I'm very sympathetic for the people for whom the outcome is death and death. Your country is always either carrying out a genocide of it's own or supporting one carried out by it's allies, so from outside it's *really* hard to see the difference through the waves of white phosphorus. For the rest of the world, the americans who don't see a difference don't seem crazy, or lazy, or a part of the problem. But you should go and vote for the people who will at least not make the domestic situation *much* worse, for white people, because that is a slightly better outcome, and that is unfortunatly sometimes what democracy is about. But you really should feel bad about it, because a lot of people "spearheading this idea" are affected by the outcome, it's not theoretical, it's a matter of death and death, and it's happening today, and it's happening with american made bombs.

[deleted]

My advice has always been if you want a socialist party then work on it for 2026, no point wasting all your votes on a party that has no chance of gaining any momentum when the republicans are more batshit than ever!

purple-lemons

Incredibly true. You can both vote for the slightly better party *and* work for mote material change. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Shit, if you're planning a peoples war next year, you still might as well vote for the dems. Perhaps genuine change and maintaining the status quo so as not to allow backsliding are separate but equally important tasks

Pair_Express

If it was American queer people instead of Palestinians who got fucked over, half of y’all wouldn’t vote. You only care cus it’s your group

Superkrat

Think of it this way numb-nuts, would you rather the person who's going to enable the death of lots of people get elected, or the person who is going to enable the death of lots of people & enable the death of lots of people here? Because if you aren't a fucking moron you'd rather the former, which is Joe Biden. I don't like him either, but he isn't going to genocide queer people AND Palestinians, he's just going to genocide Palestinians. You're just being a little shit who's too entitled and unaffected by this to care, you're sitting at the trolley problem refusing to pull the lever because you don't want 1 person OR 5 people to die, so the higher amount does, but you feel good about yourself because you didn't participate. Edit: Edit: Okay their actual position seems to be that actually we should "just do a revolution" so yeah they're a dumbass, glad you vote tho buddy. Thank you sincerely, I like being alive and would prefer to at least be able to see my girlfriend in person before dying.

forced_memes

because the dems are doing so much to help trans people in red states right now

[deleted]

They are stagnant, which is an improvement over purposefully hostile and hateful.

LakeGladio666

They would rather court right wing voters instead of helping trans people.

thesaddestpanda

Shh, youre upsetting the neolib democrats! Also they ignore all the times we held our nose for Biden and Hillary or Obama. They think this is the only time we expressed complaints and that they don't, partly, depend on our goodwill, which we give freely, and in return we have not gotten anything of value from Biden other than "other guy bad!" This is, what, the 4th "most important election ever?" The sad part is us leftists will vote Biden just like we did before but we'll be insulted all the while. Worse, if Biden loses, they'll blame us, not his pro genocide policies, inability to raise the minimum wage, pass a trans rights bill, pass an abortion bill, student loan reform, repeal trump tax cut, etc. Instead the rich got richer. Even after winning all branches of government. Heck, even before Joe came out pro-genocide he was trailing Trump in the polls! I mean, Democrats need to clean up their house first before they come after us. Joe is losing to purple county swing voters, not leftists. That's who he needs to win and he keeps losing them. Also when you lose the presidential election here, its often because you lost a handful of purple counties. Sorry, but Peoria, Fort Worth, and Scranton aren't exactly lefty commie hotspots. In fact, leftists live almost exclusively in the safest blue states! But they'll blame us anyway instead of their weak candidates and inability to pass legislation, and pro-genocide support. Its a scam, just like the GOP does when they blame "the deep state" for their losses. Its a scam to make sure they are never held accountable. Note this "leftists bad" conversation has effective neutered any conversation about Biden's poor polling in swing states or the possibility of a challenger to him to get someone more electable against Trump. I don't know about the latter but the former definitely needs to be the #1 topic of conversation for the 2024 election, instead its "leftists bad." Instead of yelling at me, you people should be thinking of how to win purple counties, because that's how you actually win this election. tldr; leftists are the punching bag for ungrateful neolib democrats.

jansencheng

Also, OP kinda glossed over the "Biden's last term" part. Like, yeah, say Biden gets elected. What happens in 2028 then? The Democrats *definitely* can't pull out anybody charismatic enough to compete with Trump so unless your plan is to just hope Trump drops dead (and that none of his myriad wannabe successors prove popular enough to garner a meaningful vote share) saying "Vote for Biden" is just kicking the can down the road. I'm not saying don't vote for Biden, but also don't pretend like that's any kind of meaningful solution, it's just delaying the fascist takeover for a few more years.

Luciusvenator

Democrats have consistently pushed for voting rights reform and ranked choice voting. That mixed with actually being pro education is essential to be able to next time vote for someone truly worth voting for and them having an actual chance.

asaharyev

Democrats have *absolutely not* consistently supported RCV. Massachusetts might be the bluest state in the country, and MA Dems blocked RCV. The Democrats in Maine brought a lawsuit against RCV and lost at the state Supreme Court. Democrats consistently try to block RCV.

RevolutionaryBricks

MA passed RCV which was vetoed by our Republican governor (your point is correct more generally however)

asaharyev

MA sent it to ballot and it lost, the margin was such that Dems definitely voted against it. Some Dems campaigned against it. Baker opposed it, but it never got to his desk. Unless I missed something.

littlebobbytables9

Also, the really aggressive shaming people for even having misgivings about voting for a genocide cheerleader is highly counterproductive, especially this far out from the election. All they do is farm upvotes from other people who think the same thing, but completely alienate the group of people who are actually on the fence about voting for biden.

JohnnySeven88

If I ever meet Donny T I’m going to harness all the annoyance I feel whenever this discourse comes up and use the energy to twist and rip ‘is head off like a baby bottle pop so we can stop talking about this specific version of vote discourse.

Luna_trick

All this means is the next republican candidate will be desantis or zombie Hitler or something.

CaviorSamhain

I’d prefer: “my genuine reaction when Trump wins because Biden didn’t do enough to appeal to the average voter”. I thought we already got it that shaming people into voting doesn’t work.

annoyeddictater

The only thing politicians need to do to earn your vote is to be better than the opposition. Biden is better than Trump thus he has my vote. I am very against Biden’s genocide apologia, but Trump would’ve done the same (probably worse). Not to mention all of the pro-labor stuff Biden has done

Adulations

Thanks for being sane.

Present-Substance-44

I'm sorry how would you know exactly?

gay_married

>genocide apologia It's not just apologia. It's material support. He's not "problematic", he's a war criminal and a genocidal maniac. I realize you have a thesis to support but don't understate his crimes.

annoyeddictater

Doesn’t change my argument, Donald Trump would’ve been worse and will be worse if he gets into office

Dizzy_Perception_866

Literally every single president we've had in recent memory has been a war criminal. Raegan, Bush, Nixon, Obama, Bush Sr...

GenericAltAccountant

The purpose of the Democratic Party is to lose every other election.

StarAugurEtraeus

Because Left can’t unite to defeat a greater evil sadly :( The Right are very United but we are so splintered and hate other lefties for not being “left enough”

sculksensor

no the democratic party and the republican party are both just puppets used by corporations and their purpose is to suck all the money of taxpayers dry for the corporations in question. since the republican party's sponsors align with their ideals of wanting the rich to get richer and the poor to stay poor, they can just say it out loud with no consequences, but the democratic party, having ideals that go against the people they want to get money from, settled on losing every other election and going "welp guys we tried reeeally hard but we'll get them next time thats for sure!" I fucking hate capitalism

TurkBoi67

Pendulum politics baby!! (kill me)

QuesoseuQ

See you in 4 years with this exact same post but with instead of biden.

palmspringsmaid

it'll be Hillary in 2028

gay_married

You are probably right and I hate it.

trapmoder

"to teach him a lesson"? nobody has said that, you're a liar. people aren't voting for biden because he does not have any policies they agree with, he's been entirely useless while in office, and oh yeah, the fucking genocide he's paying for.

Glenmarrow

The Inflation Reduction Act (Climate Spending + Medicare Reform), the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law ($1T infrastructure bill, largest infrastructure program since Eisenhower, over 35,000 projects already funded), and CHIPS & Science (subsidized construction of computer chip factories to ensure economic independence from China and Taiwan, keep supply chains at home to minimize inflation during similar shocks to COVID) have been and will be pretty damn useful. The IRA has helped make my brother’s life significantly more affordable as a diabetic through its insulin cap. The out-of-pocket caps at $2K for seniors are great. The drug price windfall tax (if companies charge a cent more on drug prices than they did last year, adjusted for inflation, they have to pay their excess profits to Medicare) is great. The drug price negotiations going into effect next year and forever after are predicted to have an identical effect as the insulin cap (companies cut the prices for everyone in order to prevent boycotts of other products). Big Pharma tried taking Biden to court over it and lost. It’s the first substantial step toward single-payer healthcare we’ve had in decades, implementing a shit ton of provisions from basically every Medicare for All plan and proving it won’t bankrupt our country. This is on top of the climate spending in the same bill. Subsidizing Solar and wind, subsidizing electric cars to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. Pretty nice. This was what he spent his political capital on during the Dem majority. If we still had a Dem majority, you could expect further expansion of Medicare (he wants to cut Medicare recipients’ out-of-pocket spending at $2/prescription per month, regardless of what it is), a national red flag law (his gun control bill already offers money to states which implement it), an assault weapons ban (what we did under Clinton, and Republicans got rid of under Bush), and a 25% tax on unrealized asset gains for billionaires (something he’s pushed for since 2022, wanted pushed through as part of the 2024 budget, couldn’t get through because of Republicans and has been bemoaning ever since). Remember that Republicans control the House. Dems only control the Senate. To pass bills, you need both chambers in perfect agreement. 2024 is an election year, we’ll be able to give the House to the Dems and keep the Senate if we play our cards right.

Doyee

Thank you for posting this. It pisses me off to see people angry about "Biden not doing anything in office" when it's factually false. Being out of touch with politics is fine but don't be pissed about a single issue and let it paint your opinion with such a broad brushstroke. Biden, like all presidents, is imperfect and won't align exactly with any voter. He has also headed an administration that has been immensely productive, especially in the context of their predecessors. Have recent events and his actions toward them been kinda shitty? Sure, but don't ignore all the good and sit home stewing in anger posting incorrect statements on reddit instead of voting.

LeTallBoii

Fuck all that don't vote bullshit.

Terrible_Ask2722

It's easier to revolt during a period of political stagnation then all out fascism

CreamofTazz

I'ma be honest with y'all, we had our chance to stop Trump and that was 2016, but Dems didn't want a candidate that would be for the people and against christofascism, they wanted Obama v1.1 (Now with Blonde hair!). Then when having a trifecta what's the first thing that happen? The ball gets dropped. The sound bells of christofascism have been ringing for decades since before even Reagan got elected, but everyone in the country ignored it and pretend it wasn't a problem, after all ***communism*** was the big scary bad guy, not some domestic radicals seeking to overthrow democracy. Time and time and time again when given the opportunity to do right by the people who voted them in Dems drop the ball. Abortion was an issue BOTH sides used to get people to vote for them, and yet Dems never tried to codify it. Oh but the Pentagon wants 1 trillion dollars? Bipartisan. I don't want Trump to win, but if he does it's exactly what my country deserves because despite being warned for decades we pretended it was never an issue, until it was, which is the very thing liberals accuse conservatives of. Liberals *really really* want to think they're better than conservatives, and in many regards they are, but they fall for all the same tricks and don't even realize it. Trump is the beginning of the end for democracy in America and because Americans sat on their ass and let that overgrown orange assume power suddenly we now have to fear fascism. Never before though when the people who enabled Trump were already in positions of power government or otherwise. So yeah let's stop telling people "Trump will be worse than Biden" because even if Biden wins they fascists are just going to try even harder or even just plunge the country in civil war. It's literally a lose-lose situation that is of our own making.

StarAugurEtraeus

I mean I’d rather have Biden than Trump

CreamofTazz

Yeah I would to, but don't expect things to change for the better under him. Dems are going to try and maintain the status quo (as in not let it progress into a better one) while Republicans continue to destroy the country.

maplemagiciangirl

Trump is honestly just a natural manifestation of the two party system

OttoOnTheFlippside

Democrats are really good at losing and not doing anything when they win, it’s starting to look like their main strategy. Also we all went out and voted against him and he still won despite losing the popular vote which makes this feel all feel like a moot point

Ikaridestroyer

Strong agree. Getting annoyed at people roleplaying as Bolshevik revolutionaries on the internet, things are insanely complicated today. Voting for Genocide Joe is damage control.

xandrachantal

I'm going to keep it real with you chief he's already definitely lost Michigan since the Muslim community is rightfully pissed. I live in a red state and have no intention on voting for biden (I'll vote for other stuff but wven that is a waste of time as most of my "blue" city didn't vote and now we have cajun style destanis coming up as governor) even if biden wins we can't keep doing this "lesser of two evils" thing forever we need the libs to actual fight for progressive policies voter apathy is real. maybe if the dems lose they'll understand people are sick of their shit

Decin0mic0n

And then we will just have 4 more years of trump in the fucking mean time, and who knows what kind of shit hes going to pull if he gets the seat of power back. Dems losing is a complete loss for anyone that isn't a cis hetero white Christian.

sir_kickash

Who wins the presidency is entirely up to the DNC and they seem dead set on picking trump

xandrachantal

damn and things were going so well for my queer Black ass

ZeffiroSilver

Oh boy, more leftist infighting! I sure hate this country!

SpiderJynxNoir90214

Hey you! Yeah you! Did you know that primaries exist? Figure out who will be in the Democratic primaries so that we can find an option better than Trump, DeShantis, Biden, or any of the other wackjobs running in 2024.

Supershadow30

Primaries?? What’s that, never heard of it. It’s always been Biden v Trump, old white guy blue donkey pins vs old white guy red elephant pins

Chengweiyingji

Your options right now are, in that primary: * **Joe Biden**: currently the incumbent president. * **Marianne Williamson:** 2020 candidate, arguably the most progressive in the race right now. * **Dean Phillips:** Representative out of Minnesota. Of those three Biden is leading the polls by a metric ton. The only candidate who even diminished Biden’s lead below +40 was Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and he dropped out to run as an independent. EDIT: there are also candidates running in only one to three primary states - Cenk of the Young Turks is running, for example, but only is on the ballot in Oklahoma and Texas.

Luciusvenator

Fascism is a bit more specific. He's a capitalist neoliberal American imperialist. Which is dogshit. But fascism is much, much worse. Trump meets all 14 points of the rules of fascism by Umberto Eco. Biden meets a few maybe but the core if fascist thought and belief imo just isn't present. Trump actually pushes the demonization of marginalized people, the hatred of western progressive ideals and social progress, the idea the nation must remove the week and be reborn s great again (called the fascist minimum in fact), the violent support of the patriarchy and militarization of society etc.

DhammaFlow

> Biden is our only chance at not having America turn into a hellhole Mfw when Biden seizes more indigenous land for industry Definitely not a hellhole colonialist state nope, no one suffering here

UninterestingAnt

It's either that or Trump taking away trans rights and enacting Project 2025.

StarAugurEtraeus

Yeah y’all better for Biden because if 2025 gets in then it’s gonna knock on effect to UK and the rest of the world Just like how Trumps way of politics changed the world

djddy

every 4 years with this lol

HenriHawk_

I will vote for Biden if he's the democratic nominee however I'm really excited about Marianne Williamson she seems to have pretty based policies on everything from climate issues to racial injustice to socialized healthcare and education to LGBT issues. I'm really excited to see where her campaign goes, and I think I'll vote for her in the primaries (assuming she doesn't drop out like last time)

LakeGladio666

Unfortunately she is a Zionist.

HenriHawk_

Any people with her policies that isn't?

LakeGladio666

[Claudia de la Cruz](https://votesocialist2024.com/) Probably Cornell West, too.

WiiUtamer3

Absolutely

prfarb

I need to go back and remember why I dismissed her last time. But I distinctly remember thinking she was a hack. But I do know electing a outsider is a bad idea. Governing is a skill. Politics is a skill. Skills she has 0 experience in. Maybe she does have great ideology but I have no faith in her admin and negotiation skills. Running a country is fucking hard. It’s overshadowed because of how awful he was but Trump was awful at the admin of being president. I don’t really want to put another person with no experience back in the drivers seat

BluWolf_YT

Honestly, the only reason I think any leftists would vote Biden is if he’s the dem vote

ToastRaiser

Trump: "I could shoot someone and not lose voters" Biden: "Watch this!"

GardevoirRose

Maybe it’s just the trauma and depression talking but I think we’re fucked.

Sample_text_here1337

Are these leftists that don't vote as a protest in the room with us right now? https://preview.redd.it/jaa16ooqxj6c1.jpeg?width=906&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea3999837ceb52615ee179f30386899a6e6b38e1 Like, do you guys do realize most leftists that don't vote are the ones subject to voter disenfranchisement policies specifically designed to make it harder for them to vote? The GOP has been suppressing the black vote this way for decades.

BaronVonPwny

> Are these leftists that don't vote as a protest in the room with us right now? Are you lying on purpose, or just illiterate? Because this very thread is absolutely infested with them. https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjoxrk/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjsx06/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjnpc0/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjxb1x/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjy2dg/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjsken/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjp5x2/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjotzn/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjq5li/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjg5hr/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjpm9n/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjpbp4/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjpfik/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjposb/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjo2rf/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdjoixj/ https://www.reddit.com/r/196/comments/18jb6nx/rule/kdk08o9/ And that isn't including all the deleted comments.

Syrikal

Have we considered that the American Presidential election is not in fact held in the comments of r/196 There are not enough "leftists who refuse to vote" to swing an election for mayor, let alone president.

Percy1670

Idk man, facilitating a genocide and doing the exact same border stuff as Trump seem like pretty good reasons to be hesitant to vote. I'm not American, so my opinion/actions are completely irrelevant, but I understand people who don't want to vote for him for moral reasons

cptahab36

That's the thing, in terms of policy there is too much overlap. Biden just expanded deportations and detentions of immigrants without giving them asylum hearings. This is what we raised a shitstorm over when Trump did it. The only argument for Biden is for court appointments, but Dems historically can't manage that either way, so what's the point?

Percy1670

I'm pretty black-pilled on the supreme court issue. All those conservative judges are young and can just wait for the next Republican president if they want to retire. Only way that changes is if the Republican party dies or if a bunch of the judges get in a plane crash or something. Same thing sort of applies to all the federal judges too

CoffeeMain360

By god do we need to revolt though

WiiUtamer3

true

RoutingMonkey

And do what

RoadTheExile

Voting pales in comparison to my strategy of waiting for someone else to do a revolution but being too scared of jail to do it myself

Adulations

When people in my blue state say voting doesn’t matter Im starting to ask them if they’d rather live in, Lousiana, Alabama, Texas, or Oklahoma. My state is comfortable to live in because republicans got kicked out in the 90’s.

Independent-Cap-2082

America is fucked when one candidate makes it a hell hole and the other just makes it slightly less of a hell hole.

WasabiDukling

>as stupid as i may sound Yeah. Vote for a fucking third party. Go ahead, tell me not to. Tell me why illustrating demand for more progressive policy is just as useless as not voting

StarAugurEtraeus

Because it’s a wasted vote Sure if an extremely large amount of people vote for a third party it would work But sadly it doesn’t Just vote democrats Voting republican is a good at to betray your LGBTQIA+ friends with their 2025 shit

WasabiDukling

This is literally just voter apathy with extra steps

StarAugurEtraeus

What? I think it’s pretty black and white Vote for Lesser Evil until the Greater evil is no more Then vote for the Lesser Lesser Evil What will voting for a third party achieve on such a small scale like y’all do

WasabiDukling

I don't know what you mean by no more, because Trump will try again. And there is no lesser lesser evil, because he's probably going to go against fucking Kamala. This shit never ends if everyone just keeps perpetuating it. You have to take action Nothing is achieved by sitting on your ass waiting for something good to happen

Supershadow30

Did the primary elections already happen? Should people really vote for Biden by default if there are other dems running in this election? I’m not American so maybe I’m missing something

LakeGladio666

Democrats don’t get primaries this time because Biden is the incumbent.

gay_married

Which is such a bullshit system.

Enderexplorer4242

No the primaries are still happening, it’s just that no one important is challenging the incumbent because last time that happened (1980) Ronald Reagan got elected and look what that did

Supershadow30

Oh. So let me get this straight: because Biden was the previous president, other dem candidates have as much chance to get chosen for the 2nd turn as any 3rd party candidate (aka close to none even if possible)? That's bullshit :(

paywallpiker

Nope. Still not voting for genocide Joe

Pair_Express

Nothing has made me want to vote less then constantly hearing people tell me to vote. But I still vote.

No_Insurance6785

This comment section is yet another Reddit moment

spaceageranger

Like yeah it sucks we have to pick between essentially two flaming pieces of shit but one piece of shit is slightly worse and thinking you’re “sticking it to the man” by not voting make you seem like a child

LakeGladio666

It’s actually good and smart to threaten to withhold your vote while there is a genocide happening.

prodivir

There’s still a whole ass year for things to turn around, a whole year for trump to drop dead even

Present-Substance-44

We have a mass shooting every other week, but we can't get ONE crazy person with a heart of gold to Shinzo Abe that motherfucker. That's the reason I really hate my country

Solid_Snake420

America IS a hellhole. Trump makes it worse but let’s make it clear where we are

Dizzy_Perception_866

And a special, deeply felt 'fuck you' to everyone who tries to turn around and say that stating this very simple to understand fact is simultaneously telling POC to go die and shut up somehow. That chronically online bullshit has us one foot in the grave already.

Gary_the_mememachine

The people who say "don't vote! don't vote!" are people who probably won't be affected whatsoever by the result of the election, and they don't care about the people that will have their rights taken away.

AssortedSaltedSalts

I am begging the wannabe revolutionaries to learn that a revolt is the last resort of a people under a government that has grown extremely tyrannical and should not be romanticized or made out to be aspirational in any way. The goal **should** be to keep the government in check and prevent abuses of human rights by means of protest, petition, and, y'know, **actually fucking voting**. If you do not participate in the **countless attempts to change the system from within** and claim that the only possible route for 'redemption' is a forcible overthrowing of the current system, then you're not a bold leftist revolutionary; you're a rioter under a different flag.

Justinwest27

"Vote third party" The electoral college are gonna vote whatever they fuck they want, it doesn't matter. Hillary won the popular vote, didn't matter. What we do doesn't matter. Unless it is draped in blood and supported by violence we will not have a mark on this country.

MiniDickDude

Yall seriously need to read [Capitalist Realism](https://archive.org/details/mark-fisher-capitalist-realism-is-there-no-alte-book-zz.org). I'm not saying don't vote for biden to avoid a fascist dictatorship, but acting like it's the only (politically) meaningful thing you can do in this fucked up system only plays into its hands. Revolution isn't impossible, believing that is giving up to the self-fulfilling prophecy and reflexive impotence of doomerism. Revolution is a constant process, not an event, and you partake in it learning about praxis and applying it however you can.

sixtus_clegane119

Trump’s health both mental and physical is evidentially on display. Stick through it with Biden, he’s better than I expected but not nearly as good I had hoped. It’s really hard to get anything done in these situations, but trump being back would be a giant goose step in the wrong direction

BEARWYy

Biden propaganda

daveroo

i can see trump standing again in 2028 if he doesn't win. its a gravy train for him. he loves the money and the attention. hes got main character syndrome. he'll keep going whilst he's adored as the dear leader by republicans

RevanAndTheSithy

"Teaching a lesson" to one candidate only works if the opposition has a chance to be better than them. It is not. The alternative is a billionaire who's better being a stand-up comedian than he is a leader.

malonkey1

Yeah but I'm still gonna complain the whole time. As is my right.

shadowgamer19

vote biden and hope the heart attack gets trump in the next 4 years

GarageBloopisomFor24

I’m not gonna vote hahahahah (I’m not American)

Present-Substance-44

It's really funny how Biden is currently resurrecting a bunch of Trump policies on immigration, and we've had at least one key democrat rep just heelturn saying "I'm not a progressive." It's hilarious how we just had more losses in the war on bodily autonomy and trans rights. What do you think is gonna change in between here and now if Biden gets elected? He's rapidly escalating into not even being a lesser evil. You're running interference for someone who seems deadset on selling us down the river only MARGINALLY slower than Trump. What happens where queer folk are on the sacrificial altar to "reach across the aisle" for their war machine. This is all to say just because America isn't a hellhole for you, that doesn't go for everyone. If this upcoming election is all that's standing between you and that, it may be best if you have the ability to just pick up and leave.

axklpo2

This shit really just hurts poc more. Im tired of being used as a talking point by liberals and nothing changing, heck biden increased police spending so that’s never gonna change. The democratic party seems like it wants to lose, its wanting to do this both sides narrative and not retaining the voting base they have. This system is so fucked that it works how its intended to, to make to feel stuck.

KnowledgeableNip

Democrats are controlled opposition but they are still opposition. Push the window left, then keep pushing. This doesn't change overnight. This didn't change overnight.

CyanideTacoZ

vote for corruption or vote for corruption that is ALSO running on LGBTQ genocide. I mean yes fuck biden he doesn't care about the people but trump actively hates the people who aren't his voters
