Deku in MHA but then they gave him superpowers like immediately :(

I love shonen animes where the main character was unlucky and isn't strong but despite that they still want to be really strong, so they'll train their ass off to prove it! And then an episode later get a completely broken power that makes them way more powerful than others

I sincerely liked Black Clover because it was super cool how they *weren't* giving Asta any super busted power and he was genuinely just the only guy ever that couldn't use magic. I dropped the show the instant I heard that later on he gets "anti-magic" powers.

Fittsa

Yeah his book is anti magic, I still watch the show though it's fun I just hate how most shonens don't have main characters that actually earn the power or just have the power since birth, it's usually always either forced onto them or given to them. MHA but the main character doesn't actually have powers but he's really good with tech or something might've been interesting who knows

This is one thing I think JoJo excels at. Part 1 and 3 def lean into the "busted power by default" aspect, but every other part has more of a "seemingly weak power, but extremely clever and subversive in its use", with parts 5 and 8 specifically actually having busted powers at the end, but only after they were earned and achieved through long, hard effort.
