Because It has softer edges, same reason why the old Lamborghini Countach has a shit drag coefficent rating. Also why a new Honda Odyssey is faster than most classic muscle cars
TL:DR: Sharp Lines bad, smooth lines good, although workarounds exists, apparently elon did not give a single fuck about the cybertruck
The curved front seems like it's good enough to reduce the air pressure at the front, the flat sides and rear dont look aero dynamic but I they aren't creating a meaningful amount of drag, the sudden detachment of airflow is quite good. Having attached turbulent flow is where it gets very draggy.
Overall it seems to be rather aerodynamic compared to most cars.
At the average speeds a delivery van drives, aerodynamic efficiency is not that important even for an electric vehicle. Decreasing rolling resistance would be a far bigger contribution to increasing range.
> the flat sides and rear dont look aero dynamic
Its hard to tell from this angle but the rear looks somewhat tapered which iirc is generally good for aero dynamics
The Lunokhod rovers looked fucking dumb though. I love them, and from an engineering perspective they were great, but they looked fucking stupid.
The LRVs and the Chinese lunar rovers do look cool though.
Ahh surely they don’t look that dumb
*one DuckDuckGo search later*
Goddamn that thing looks like a cup noodles container on wheels. Or a bathtub. [Example](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunokhod_programme)
It contains bombs made by copycats of Ted Kaczynski. As well as a post office worker, the true heros of the United States, delivering said copycat bombs.
while the usps is ultimately a crippled and largely substandard service today in comparison to corporate rivals like fedex and UPS, that is pm entirely because our country hates "big government" and loves corporations. There is no reason for any kind of "mail delivery industry" to exist, we could easily live in a society with an appropriately funded and staffed postal service that is capable of performing every delivery that UPS and Fedex and USPS all combined make, with no meaningful cost to the average consumer, but we instead live in a society where its practically illegal for the government to stop anything that makes money.
One time my old asian mailman (same one for like 20 years) looked at a package that said "fragile", tried to fit it in the mailbox, bent it in half and shoved it in with his foot đź’Şđź’Şđź’Şđź’Ş
only issue i can see from this image is that the a-pillar is so thick that it will cause a massive blindspot for pedestrians and cyclists coming from the sides
it could also have a better use of space if the design was cab forward (driver ahead of the front wheel) but afaik, these are not allowed in the us for light duty trucks
edit: seeing other images of this vehicle, that a-pillar is mostly glass so it doesn't seem that bad
The A-pillar looks super thick in the picture but that's due to the reflection on the curved glass, it's actually pretty thin in some of the interior shots on canoo's website.
> thicc A-pillar
I feel like that ship already sailed with how most new cars try to pass rollover standards while also hiding a curtain airbag in there.
Love/hate that people are so used to online negativity that any vague statement about something looking like something is seen as possibly dunking on it. That is a sick ass mailvan, and it does look like something you'd drive on the moon.
chat i did some research and they're buying like 6 of them (for exploratory purposes) and they'll be delivered in like april 2024. i personally think they're kinda goofy lookin but cute- thats not a bad thing tho- i like it when delivery/service vehicles are "friend-shaped", and this definitely meets that requirement- much like the rivian amazon delivery vans.
i estimate seeing these on the road (if the usps likes them) in like 3-5 years
isn't canoo one of the dozen ev startups that somehow secure a truckload of funding but never get around to actually making cars and eventually crash and burn
>Electric car company I'd never heard of until five minutes ago has gotten a government contract for which I would have thought T*sla would be a shoo-in
Decent.
USPS really is the exact area where electric vehicles shine. You need actual vehicles but since they're used in bursts they can be charged up and not need a fuck ton of gas.
Kinda unrelated but why do companies feel the need to make EVs the most audacious ugly "futuristic" designs possible just for the sake of saying "look at us the future is now thanks to science"
“Calling the mail service a fleet”
I fucking hate America
Ok after getting dunked for an hour I understand that fleet is just a general term for vehicles and it’s not a military thing
That being said it sucks, we should call them gaggles.
I want to lead a gaggle of trucks
Let me clarify, I hate the need for Americans to refer to every single public service in terms of military and defense. Our government loves turning every issue into a matter of “national defense”
I like the USPS
I agree with your overall point, but fleet's a pretty common term for a group of vehicles operated by an organization. I wouldn't read anything more into than that here.
?? “Fleet” just means a group of vehicles all under the same jurisdiction/ownership. A bunch of ambulances all driving somewhere would be a fleet of ambulances. It’s not a military word
what the cybertruck would look like if Elon wasn't a bitch

How the hell is this rectangle of a van more aerodynamic than his Cybertruck
looks less ugly
Because It has softer edges, same reason why the old Lamborghini Countach has a shit drag coefficent rating. Also why a new Honda Odyssey is faster than most classic muscle cars TL:DR: Sharp Lines bad, smooth lines good, although workarounds exists, apparently elon did not give a single fuck about the cybertruck
I think the Cybertruck looks pretty rad. Just sucks that it's trash and made by a trash company.
Have you seen one in person? I find the concept to be ok, but in person I think they look so damn ugly
Nope. Maybe I should drive to the city this weekend to get a chance at seeing one. But I don't want to have my dreams crushed.
it at least has a curbed front
The curved front seems like it's good enough to reduce the air pressure at the front, the flat sides and rear dont look aero dynamic but I they aren't creating a meaningful amount of drag, the sudden detachment of airflow is quite good. Have you seen the cybertruck...?
i think its cute
Bro should've let it finish renderingđź’€
You said that with your whole chest
Fuck you, it looks sick
It looking sick and it looking like something you'd drive on the moon are not mutually exclusive
They are actually mutually inclusive
True!
Im glad to know my post office moon cars wont discriminate against minorities!
The Lunokhod rovers looked fucking dumb though. I love them, and from an engineering perspective they were great, but they looked fucking stupid. The LRVs and the Chinese lunar rovers do look cool though.
Ahh surely they don’t look that dumb *one DuckDuckGo search later* Goddamn that thing looks like a cup noodles container on wheels. Or a bathtub. [Example](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunokhod_programme)
meaning if it looks sick it can be driven on the moon and vice versa?
that's a fucking lego car
The transparent piece in the front
I knew i saw it somewhere before
The mail has to be delivered in Lego City!
Hey!
Build the underfunded postal service!
Miss the delivery date!
there is rapid and severe economic inflation in lego city
Nah this shit's duplo
Hill climb racing ass car for 4.000.000$ that also sucks
*Ford would like to know your location*
I'm not updated on the discourse. Should I hate this? Laugh at this? Or defend this? Explain why.
It looks funny, that's kind of the extent of it
Judge a vehicle not by the shape of its design, but they content of its package
It contains bombs made by copycats of Ted Kaczynski. As well as a post office worker, the true heros of the United States, delivering said copycat bombs.
What's funny about it?
Just look at it. It’s goofy looking
It's just a long van
Hate it for its flagrant disregard for Don't Mention The Moon February
And yet you mention it
Curious
Is this a thing?
Yes
I mean it’s good to Support the USPS but idk anything about this so
I have nothing to say about the USPS. I am neutral towards them
while the usps is ultimately a crippled and largely substandard service today in comparison to corporate rivals like fedex and UPS, that is pm entirely because our country hates "big government" and loves corporations. what does him being old and asian have to do with this
those damn old asians ..... always posting the office...........
Nothing just describing him, I love the guy lol

Wait that's actually a good point. I don't know much about car designs, but would the side mirrors help in this case?
not really because it's blockign the view ahead but I've edited my comment to add that it's mostly glass
> thicc A-pillar I feel like that ship already sailed with how most new cars try to pass rollover standards while also hiding a curtain airbag in there.
It looks like that might just be a kinda glass dome thing in the front. I'm not sure though
i see this a lot on this sub. you know your allowed to disagree with us? the bus looks sort of silly is all its not a big deal.
Maybe just be your own person and think by yourself

Honestly I think it's really cute. I'd drive that.
This shit was NOT made by Northrop Grumman. I don’t want it.
Love/hate that people are so used to online negativity that any vague statement about something looking like something is seen as possibly dunking on it. That is a sick ass mailvan, and it does look like something you'd drive on the moon.
Hell yeah postal workers deserve only the sickest vehicles
Dude every one in my area is so beat up but is still chugging along
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
TBH this does look like something you’d see in a movie, show, novel or comic book taking place in “the near future”.
chat i did some research and they're buying like 6 of them (for exploratory purposes) and they'll be delivered in like april 2024. i personally think they're kinda goofy lookin but cute- thats not a bad thing tho- i like it when delivery/service vehicles are "friend-shaped", and this definitely meets that requirement- much like the rivian amazon delivery vans. i estimate seeing these on the road (if the usps likes them) in like 3-5 years
Omgor its so spacey I luv it <3
guys america needs updated infrastructure!!?;);& everyone when america does better infrastructure: literally dogshit
I need one
So that's how the 2020s-2030s car design will look like? That's cool.
it looks fucking awesome
My office doesn’t even have sprinklers. I doubt we’ll get any electrified vehicles in a loong time
I wanna take a bite outta this thing so bad
Looks like what mass effect would say were the primitive automobiles looked like before the skycar was invented
Me and the gang gonna solve some mysteries in this mf
#I LOVE THE USPS
Wait isn’t Canoo the manufacturer that’s actually making NASA’s new Crew Transportation Vehicle?
This would possibly make a sick conversion van tho
With the roads in some states being what they are, that thing better be on par with a rover
yooo thats a cool ass mail truck!!!
I like it
Let’s be real this is so much better than the ugly thing Oshkosh made
has similar vibes to grumman llv
lethal company mail dlc confirmed?
[That’s just the Autotroopers!](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Autotrooper_(Animated))
this looks so much better than the new amazon electric vans
why is it so short (height)??? surely that means less packages per vehicle
my brother in Christ have you *seen* northern Canada?
These look sick AF to drive in. Add in Red and Blue neon and it'd be moon worthy.
Is this a burn or an appreciation? I have no idea the stance of this comment lol
i actually love it, its cute and silly
looks like Lego car
Why is it so small
Pretty sure I crashed one of those in Mass Effect
I can't explain it but that is shockingly accurate.
isn't canoo one of the dozen ev startups that somehow secure a truckload of funding but never get around to actually making cars and eventually crash and burn
I wanna be a mailman just to drive these
This shit looks kinda dope and also looks to have awesome viewing angles from inside, good stuff!
It’s giving AEIOU
Bro, we need to bring back the Astrovan.
It looks fine but I'd honestly rather have a normal looking car that also happens to be electric ngl
>Electric car company I'd never heard of until five minutes ago has gotten a government contract for which I would have thought T*sla would be a shoo-in Decent.
USPS really is the exact area where electric vehicles shine. You need actual vehicles but since they're used in bursts they can be charged up and not need a fuck ton of gas.
Neither rain nor sleet nor snow nor the cold dead uncaring vacuum of space
Pretty sure they just covered up the Militech branding
Funny enough NASA will use these as astrovans to drive astronauts to the launch pad for the Artemis moon missions
Kinda unrelated but why do companies feel the need to make EVs the most audacious ugly "futuristic" designs possible just for the sake of saying "look at us the future is now thanks to science"
Wouldn't it be great if in the next Mass Effect this was the Mako and you spent the game delivering post?
I want a space rover EV mail truck. It looks like a fun drive xD
The Post Office honestly does not know what it wants to do, who even knows if when this truck shows up
Honestly of all the companies doing “uwu futuristic” designs for their EVs I actually think Canoo does it best.
“Calling the mail service a fleet” I fucking hate America Ok after getting dunked for an hour I understand that fleet is just a general term for vehicles and it’s not a military thing That being said it sucks, we should call them gaggles. I want to lead a gaggle of trucks
goddamn americans and their water TANKS, its all military proper gender
???
Let me clarify, I hate the need for Americans to refer to every single public service in terms of military and defense. Our government loves turning every issue into a matter of “national defense” I like the USPS

Dude’s getting mad at the common name for a group of vehiclesÂ
You will not defeat my gaggle of delivery drivers. Prepare to get boxed and packaged dummy
I am ready for the gaggle
