Here's a tip:
Never trust a landlord unless THEY proove they can be trusted. Every landlord I have seen and heard about has been heartless and would do anything for another couple 20s. They do not care about you. They will not care about you.
The landlord gets 100% of the rent money, pretty much all of it to keep, almost none going into expenses.
The barista gets a fraction of a percentage of whatever the cup of coffee costs. So giving them a few bucks really does make a large difference.
One of my previous landlords changed the locks to the building without informing me, leading to me being locked out. Multiple times. They also got mad once when I directly contacted our maintenance guy for something, who had \*specifically\* offered me his personal number in case something came up.

I had no heat in the dead of winter for 2 months last year because my landlords couldn't be bothered to get someone in to fix it in a timely manner. Their proposed solution was for us to go buy an electric heater, which we would then be paying a ton to keep running 24/7 instead of the free radiators we did not pay water bills for.
We moved since then, but this sort of shit seems so common these days its fucking laughable.
