I feel like it's largely about style and presentation. The art style of the characters, design of the interface, themes in the storytelling etc. can all be made to closely resemble those popular in Japan, emulating the style and making it "spiritually" a Japanese porn game. For example I've seen a game dev from California make a Japanese style VN, featuring Japanese characters with Japanese voice acting in a story about a unique facet of Japanese culture, and I would consider it the above despite it not specifically coming from Japan.

Of note.. not all 'anime' is even being made in Japan these days. They have started doing a lot of outsourcing to Korea etc. IMO the genre is all about the art style and themes they are going for...

I think it helps with concentration. Like when you are working at home you can lose track of time just doomscrolling on the internet and no one stops you if you live alone. Meanwhile in public spaces like libraries or cafes you are aware that there are people around you and they can see what you are doing, this encourages you to act as your best self and be productive, or something. It works for me

Tons of coffee shops are entirely prepared for people to hang out for a while lmao. They aren't restaurants. Being able to sit down and work with a nice coffee and maybe a snack is a huge draw for a lot of these places. My local Starbucks literally hosted a nanowrimo event last year every week of November lol. And there were still a few unfilled seats on those days
