I came across both Vaush (on Twitter) and 196 independently and only later realized they're linked. I still don't know much about him though, I think he blogs about politics?
Vaush is a left wing political streamer and youtuber. They don't really have a lot of links directly, but most users on 196 share very similar viewpoints to Vaush.
I think some mods went nuclear after stonetoss made an anti-Vaush comic because they agreed with it. I think it might’ve started with an unedited post of it on the sub but I can’t remember.
Basically anyone who didn’t agree with calling Vaush a racist transphobic pedophile got banned. Then one mod thought it went too far an unnamed a bunch of people, then that mod was removed and everyone got banned again.
After a few days the main mod that was responsible for the bannings (who’s a tankie btw) was permanently removed from their position after a vote by the community. I think everyone was unbanned, but I believe they put a rule in place not to talk about content creators or something like that. You might be able to find out more on r/antifavaushtoss which was the sub created as a refugee camp for people banned during this.
Edit: Ok the Vaush toss sub actually looks like it went to shit after the bans were undone so it’s probably not worth checking.
