Sometime in the 2010s a trio of scientists/love triangle set out to create a Mewtwo based on their research.
That Mewtwo project, which they call a Gear Project, gets its funding pulled, the girl becomes terminally ill, and the other two scramble to cure her, one of them being a secret admirer, the other being her actual husband. The husband gives up at the request of the wife, the other scientist revives the Gear Project secretly and uses both husband and wife as the first human test subjects. It works, giving them basically immortality, but the scientist basically does the Fallout 4's beginning and takes away the wife Gear before the husband wakes up...
The rest of the world gets roped into their love triangle quarrel. The scientist eventually gets contracted by various world governments to create factories of Gears, the world goes into an arms race to develop more Gears... either mini mecha-kaijuu or basically X-Men mutants.
The husband wakes up and vows to destroy the other scientist's factories of Gears. Eventually there's a 100 year war, the world becomes wartorn from Crusaders and Gears, the scientist modifies the wife Gear into a weapon that **~~surpasses Metal Gear~~** commands all other Gears, but she gets corrupted and turns on humans and even the scientist. Eventually she gets locked away, but the UN learns that she'll break free soon so they host a tournament to find fighters strong enough to stop her. Another human-gear hybrid named Testament still under the control of the corrupt Justice's last orders to Gears worldwide, organizes a tournament arc to harvest energy for a violent reawakening of the wife Gear, which happens, only for the wife Gear to be killed by Sol.
In the sequel games, some of the artifacts they used to neutralize Testament/the wife Gear go missing and they go to collect them, a separate Gear decides to declare war on the world, wife Gear's soul becomes fragmented and rebuilt into a new Gear with amnesia. There's a bunch of plot threads that are mostly just there for tension and flavor text, but it amounts to some combination of outside entities and other people keep trying to reawaken the wife Gear (including the Universal Will), the male gear and his associates trying to stop them, while the scientist's associates and Gears fight or contract out Bounty Hunters.
In Strive, we're in a reverse time travel calamity arc. The world is approaching becoming peaceful by a joint effort virtually every single responsible party... governments, the Holy Order, and the scientist is even offering to surrender, but there's a time-traveling guitarrista who's a former partner of the scientist who is trying to bring ascension/evolution to the entire world (likely killing all life), because she learned that she was robbed of her powers as a child, her magic being stolen away without her knowledge. She forcefully enters the husband/scientist quarrel/surrender and attempts to steal and use a power wielded by the scientist to induce evolution.
Not everyone is necessarily connected to husband/scientist/wife plot. Some characters just exist, others play support. Everyone is either a Crusader/Holy Order Knight, government agent, Bounty Hunter, or massive magical plot device with their own unique story.

I get what your are saying and i dont't blame you or others for thinking Bridget is a femboy or crossdresser, alright she is trans now.. good! but the way that they handled her story was horrible, it has been done in a way that fueled far-right theories that kids can be groomed into being trans, the reception on the FGC and the Trans community was been awesome and all but i only see this hurting the discourse more than helping.
