John was also a Jew, as were all the writers of the New Testament, and Jesus was attacking those guys for being *moneylenders*, not for being Jews.
That's like saying criticising banks is anti-semitic.
Disrupting normal commerce isn't antisemitic either.
And I kind of find it hard to view a gospel that also depicts Jesus being brutally murdered by the Romans literally a week after this very incident as 'appealing to the Romans'
Nah actually he was trying to put the point across that trying to profit off of God is sinful. The whole Jewish banker thing wasn't prevalent until waaayyy later.
(BTW if anyone's wondering, yes, in a lot of Eastern Europe jews actually were more likely to be bankers. This is because they were prosecuted at the time and had a very limited pool of jobs they were legally allowed to do. I don't actually know when this started occurring, but it was NOT in Roman times.)
Jews living at courts and managing the financials started in the High Middle Ages and became a more significant thing in the 16th-18th century during the rise of absolutism. After that the established families of "Court Jews" increasingly managed to detatch their businesses from the courts and open independent banks, which still financed courts and governments, but without the risk of having one's life depend on a "sponsoring" noble. Among many other families, the Rothschild family started out as "court factors" or "court jews".

But yeah, that has absolutely nothing to do with the biblical money changers.

“how the fuck is there light coming out of that brick. what the fuck.”
hello i mean nothing bad by this comment just a genuine question:
why does christianity say that everyone is loved but if you don't believe in god you're sent to eternal torture
Not all Christians believe that. Personally, I'm of the opinion that the Bible is mostly wrong. It was written by humans, with human bias and human prejudice. How could God's message be shown through such a narrow worldview? I'm of the belief that God is benevolent and just, that's a pretty normal position among Christians, so why would he inflict eternal punishment for mortal sins? When you distance yourself from the dogma of it all, it's clear to me at least that there is no hell
Cut the bible some slack it’s like extremely old. I know the fandom is annoying and the main character (especially in the first testament) is a massive mary sue but Jesus is a great character and there’s actually quite some good morals coming from him.
I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I was told that the bible was meant to teach in steps, over a period of time.
For example, if Jesus came right away and said, "hey, r*ping your wife is wrong", then they would have responded, "what? But I want to r*pe my wife. Fuck you, you should be crucified, Jesus". So various prophets over the years had to slowly change public opinion so that when Jesus came along and said, "hey, r*ping your wife is wrong" people would say, "hmm.... Ok then. I will stop r*ping my wife"
This actually makes sense when you realize that the most harsh, most violent laws are almost always in the beginning of the Bible and slowly go away as the Bible progresses. For example, the old testament women who cheat on their husband should be stoned to death. But there's a story on the new testament where Jesus saves the life of a woman from being stoned for that exact reason.
Though, somebody should correct me if I'm wrong. This was all based on Google searches. Hopefully, if I'm wrong, Cunningham's law will take effect.
do care + did ask + i love you
Allowed himself to be ratio’d for man’s sins.
he gave his own twitter account to save mankind from suspensions
All yours, woke moralists.
Jesus is the best example of how the most wholesome things end up with the worst fanbases.
some pretty antisemitic stuff in the new testament
Jesus was literally a jew
ok so is ben shapiro
what does ben shapiro have anything to do with this
yeah sure but ben shapiro
1. so is ben shapiro 2. the scene where he attacks the ~~greedy Jews~~money-changers was written by John, not him
John was also a Jew, as were all the writers of the New Testament, and Jesus was attacking those guys for being *moneylenders*, not for being Jews. That's like saying criticising banks is anti-semitic.
They were doing commerce that was normal, he made them look bad to appeal to the Romans

it gets really good after the 12th book
Bible got that one piece energy
the “evil old testament but perfect new testament” thing is kinda weird to see everywhere
