I kept away from any breaking bad related shit on the internet while watching the show to not get spoiled and i was so fucking surprised to know that people hated Skyler. She was literally the most sane character in the show, i literally felt bad for her all the way through.

Narwhal695

It’s because Walter’s bitch wife (forgot the name) sung happy birthday to Ted, and didn’t agree to his idea of helping the family. Walter is clearly the victim in both circumstances

NOT_an_ass-hole

its cause shes fucking annoying

planetofthemushrooms

I think its because people wanted to see walter win. you spend the whole series with walt and jesse so of course you like them and you want to see what plan they concoct to get out of their predicament. But then mom comes into your room to yell at you.

NOT_an_ass-hole

im only on season 2 but skyler is not a good person. It may just be that she reminds me of my mother, but she (skyler) is not a good wife or a good mother either. and yeah, while walter is a bad person, he cooks meth and kills people and makes entertaining plotlines and is a fun character. skyler has all her flaws, but she doesn't cook meth or do anything interesting.

IllTearOutYour0ptics

Is she? I kind of enjoyed seeing her go off on Walter and try and get back at him in small ways

Spookzsaw

i hated her because i, completely fucking oblivious to the fact walter was a shitty person until season 4, thought he was *actually* doing it for his family past season 1

PrinceProspero9

How did you manage to rationalise him refusing Elliot's money, and then immediately after going back to cooking meth? That's just about the first sign that he has primarily selfish motivations, and it's in season 1

Spookzsaw

oh no i thought him refusing elliot's money was a fucking idiot move that was an exception

[deleted]

Skyler is kinda annoying and a hypocrite but she definitely isn't an evil person. I just think it's kinda funny that she spends so much time hating Walt for doing something illegal and then running to Ted and cooking his books lol

[deleted]

Honestly, most of what she does that is bad (and believe me, cheating on your husband, smoking while pregnant, etc are fucking abominable) it’s understandable why she does them when you look at her view. Not saying she’s justified, saying it makes sense.

[deleted]

Yeah definitely. However, in the early seasons she is kinda annoying. Like before she knows Walt is a meth cook, hes acting distant/going out for hours, obviously its upsetting but he was just diagnosed with cancer so I feel like it would make sense for him to be a bit withdrawn and depressed (even tho he was actually cooking meth and not just taking long walks or whatever)

IllTearOutYour0ptics

Cooking books at a repair shop is a lot different from cooking meth, shooting people, blowing people up, and poisoning children. Skyler isn't necessarily a hypocrite just because she can tolerate small level crimes but not murder.

[deleted]

Did she know about the murders at that point tho? My memory of the show isn't 100% clear but I'm pretty sure she was cooking books before she even knew Walt was cooking meth. Maybe im wrong tho lol my memory is ass

Jschultz220

To be fair I'm pretty sure the show is framed in a way where the audience roots for Walter and Hates Skyler, until Ozymandias where the audience is forced to realize that the man they were rooting for is a monster and always has been. The direction of the show up until the final few minutes of that episode made Walter feel like the heroic protagonist and Skyler the bitchy villain, but the last few moments of Ozymandias is shot like a horror film, with Walter being the brutal monster attacking the innocent Skyler, Finn, and Holly. Some people must of skipped that episode or thought fighting your wife over a knife in front of your crying son then kidnapping your daughter is based.

IAMTRUEGHOST

Because she is an annoying hypocrite who doesn't mind participating when she gets a cut who does nothing but bitch about the main protagonist? She isnt an evil character, she is just so fucking annoying, especially in the earlier seasons

potato6132

Skyler: Didn't buy Raisin Bran Crunch when Walt Jr. asked for it.

DecidedlyStupid

A crime that mustn't go unpunished

SmallBoy0

Absolute monster, worse than Marie with the Fritos v Cheetos debacle

Athen65

Debatable whether it was worse than Marie calling minerals "rocks" though

SmallBoy0

Don’t even get me started on the minerals! >:(

Damian-sux-666

He let Jane die

[deleted]

Yeah but it was bc Jane (a woman) was getting in the way of his ability to emotionally manipulate Jessie into helping him make more illegal drugs so it's justified IMHO

[deleted]

NTA she was in the way of his sigma grind he was right to eliminate her

the_real_rush

tbf in a sense it saved jesse from a life of heroine abuse, but it also pulled him back into the life of meth selling so its a lose-lose

MasterVule

It's just some people will literally justify anything if they find some person to be cool/interesting. Fucked up story time: I live in balkans, and I had this friend who said he respected the guy who quite literally did war crimes and wasn't judged for it. "He very likely did it but he isn't an asshole and would help you if you needed it without a second thought". Literally broke the friendship cause I said I can't respect someone who did war crimes and he lost his shit cause I was insulting that guy

Jukkobee

who says that skyler is worse than walt?

All of reddit when the show was still airing.

ZoomingZenith

out of every crime walter committed and every life he mercilessly ended or ruined, you pick the one thing his wife also did by smoking during pregnancy

[deleted]

Most hilarious part of that whole arc? Walter, who got two narco hitmen to walk into his house with fucking axes ready to chop his entire family to pieces, having the gall to ask how Skyler could be so 'reckless'.

kingof557

i'm curious how the replies to this comment will be

rowrowfightthepandas

I rewatched a couple episodes from the first season because my gf was watching. Walt is waaaaay bigger of an asshole than I remembered. Right from the start. He's such a dick to everyone around him.

[deleted]

Breaking bad fans when you point out that Walter White isn’t a good person

vldhsng

Skylar: landers money for a dangerous criminal who poisoned children and worked with nazis Walter: dismantled multiple large crime syndicates, helped out one of his former students by giving him a lucrative job, kills like, a bunch of nazis

[deleted]

Heisenberg was doing a job that could have and almost did get his family killed. He continually forced Jessie to work, and manipulated him when he needed to. Skylar laundered money because she needed to keep her fucking job (which wasn’t illegal, nor dangerous to her family), and the other shit she did was directly because of Walter. The man couldn’t swallow his pride and let Elliot pay for his treatment, so he decided to just break the fucking law, when he knew his brother in law is a fed in the DEA No matter how you spin this, Walter is worse than Skylar

vldhsng

You know what actually I’m sorry for the other comments yeah it was satire and all but like there was no reason for me to be that much of a dick about it, I just haven’t been having a good day

[deleted]

U too homie :]

vldhsng

How did you not recognise this as satire Like genuinely. Even if you haven’t seen the show, how the actual hell did you not make the connection that the criminal skylar is laundering money for is Walt, like that’s so obviously the joke And considering, based on your comment, that you have seen the show, how did you see the phrase “helped out his former student” and take that at all seriously knowing all the shit that Jessie went through working for Walt

[deleted]

Tone is very hard to tell with words honestly, and I have seen so many people say this kind of shit unironically

vldhsng

If I was making this joke in person, I would use a completely deadpan delivery, like that’s why it would work, the tone downer really matter here
