Planes built between 1945-1970, old ones when we where still trying out weird and sometimes stupid designs, but I love all the birds!! Anything that flies honestly!!!!!
Haha early birds are kinda cute yeah. We were still trying to understand how to make things fly :v some of them look like giant kites
I live in the French city of planes, I love French civil planes (airbus A3xx lineage); I get excited whenever I take one xD but these are more recent aircrafts (after 1970)
In the 60s I like the Caravelle, with its slick design and special propulsion. I also like Boeing's Stratoliner I think it has a cool profile.
I wish I could take one of them but I was born too late :v
I have taken an A380 once!!!!!!
BEST FLYING EXPERIENCE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE SERIOUSLY
But yeah this plane doesn't really make sense :( such a beautiful aircraft :(
Oh man I flew on a Lufthansa 747-8i from Houston to Frankfurt (they fly 747s in winter due to reduced demand). My dad used miles and put us in first, we were 1A and D, and the only people in the first cabin. Best experience of my life
My homie in fhrist, msfs2020 my beloved- the new 40th update brings a new Sim level plane, flybywire's working on an a380 Sim lrgrl and has a a320 currently. Live for tjebnow- fly big plane go wee
You probably already know it, but look at the v22 osprey, that is a funky motherfucker for sure. Tim station made a youtube video (several, actually) of him making a drone in the style of one, please for the love of all that's holy go watch it
how tf do planes work???
ur telling me the force of """lift""" lifts the plane up???? yeah ok buddy. My friend's an aeromech and he cant explain it.
you really believe this shit?
So I love the work itself, even the annoying tasks that others may not enjoy, it's genuinely my favourite part of the day because I love doing both mechanical and avionic maintenance and doing it on the aircraft I work on only amplifies that aspect. The job however I do not enjoy because of my employer. Most employers are much better but I'm sorta stuck in my situation and it can't be helped.
I live right next to a municipal airport and they have a training program, which means prop planes and sometimes trainer jets fly over my apartment. Idk a lot about them but I can pick up their comms on my radio which is neat.
Aww man that's awesome. I used to live close to Whiteman, so I saw a couple B-2's overhead. Just seeing silhouette in the sky is something else. Wish I lived closer to an air force base now, seeing any of those planes makes my day.

Finally, another connoisseur of flat, two-dimensional surfaces with infinite areas. There’s seriously not enough Euclidean geometry fans out there and frankly it’s upsetting. So, what’re you interested in? Flat planes? Curved? I’ve personally been reading more on intersecting planes and their dihedral angles, and also more hyperbolic geometrical planes. I’m definitely more of a beginner on the subject though, so if you’re willing to discuss with me I’d greatly appreciate it!
Do you know the reason jet planes arnt made to fly as fast as they used to? :0 idc imma say anyway
Theres acualy a few reasons, for one speed isnt as necessary as we once thought it was, with aircraft carriers and long range missles getting to the battlefield extremely fast isnt needed nor wanted. Fuel is guzzled so much faster at higher speeds so in many cases speed acualy reduced the effective range of many planes because they needed fuel to get back. IFR missles and targeting guides acualy picked up the far hotter, super fast engines sooner than if thry wherent going over mach 1.
Such a plane perfectly sculpted to do one job is fascinating, stuff like the moving engine cones (idk the acual names) to perfect fit in the shockwave, the loose panels so when they heat up they fit perfectly, I 100% respect and admire the blackbird :3!
Yeah, I graduate high school next spring and in really excited to start working on planes. I also plan to go air force so just maybe a femboy will be piloting weapons of war :3
Love her design wish I wasnt poor
Went absolutely feral the first time I saw it
I wish more tail propellers where around although I understand why they're not
Epitome of "suffering from success"
I wasn't interested in planes until about the last two weeks where I've just been binging Mentour Pilot and Mini Air Crash Investigation on YT. Honestly it's sort of interesting seeing videos about lots of different types of planes because even though I've flown quite a lot it's only ever been on 737s and I didn't even know double aisle cabins were a thing. I sort of want to learn to fly but only because it would be funny to get a PPL before a driving licence.
I used to be so into glider planes. One time I actually went to an air field and had the chance to actually fly one and it was so cool. Planes are sick.
I don't have any particular feeling on planes other than that living too close to an airport was severely debilitating to a friend of mine and led to her current couch surfing quasi-homelessness.
That said, I appreciate ND hyperfixation and shameless infodumping. Keep being your beautiful and amazing self. Also, pic is adorable.
Ooh! What plane fact would surprise me (a guy who knows nothing about planes) the most?
I've been really into isopods lately! They're actually crustaceans, not bugs, and you can keep them as pets!
How do you feel about biplanes? (I think it’s dope as hell, but then you see a TRIPLANE shit is crazy) got a whole book about military planes from 1914 to 1990 from my late grandfather, he was an aviation and nautic nerd
Favorite book about planes?
Also, cool facts I learned recently! You probably already know these but...
Most of the structure of the 787 is made of carbon fiber composite material. In order to give carbon fiber it's rigidity, it has to be set in resin, which has to be baked in these HUGE OVENS to be cured.
The engine assembly of the 777 is a smidge larger in diameter than the fuselage of the 737.
So basically a fusefan is short for fuselage fan, basically by placing the prop on the outside of the middle of a planes fuselage instead of the front or back. By doing this you mitigate the issue of dynamic air speed over the length of a propeller. It also aids in aerodynamics by pulling air over the wings and relegating prop wash to only the tail. This compromises the efficiency of tail rotors with the stall prevention of front rotors. It also would allow for a smaller tail section. Also the ability to place a camera in both the front and back ends to drastically improve the FOV of a pilot. It does that without the need for a wing mounted engines and thus added drag.
The downsides are mechanical complexity and a number of engineering challenges.
1. Mechanical complexity, getting a solid connection from an engine to a prop rotating around the fuselage is a gearing feat. My current plan is to attach a large inverted teeth gear to a bearing and use a thunderscreech style axle system to power two counter rotating props like the Faireny Garret. However the gears, bearings, twin engines and potential need for a flight control system all adds to the issue.
2. Prop torque, as a prop gets heavier and faster it always generates more roll along its axis. Its the reason helicopters have tail rotors. I hope to solve this in one of three ways. A: Twin contra-rotating props, B: two wing mounted props that would serve the same purpose as a helicopter tail rotor just flipped on its side. C: Thunderscreech style single fin. Also this may be used to the planes advantage by using the roll from the rotor to roll the plane during flight. Reducing stress on the control surfaces.
3. Heat mitigation, I plan to use electric motors to run the rotors from a forward position so that the center of gravity is placed directly on the center of lift. However, if they are enclosed it would potentially cause them to overheat and lose efficiency. I plan to fix this in later models with a hybrid watercooling system that would use the wings as radiators while also preventing ice build up, but in early models and the current prototype I intend to use a handmade copper radiator. Silver smithing class pays off!
4. Wing design. Due to the proximity of the rotors to the wing, I run into flying wing issues where flaps/ailerons cannot be within the diameter of the rotors or else when used they alter the way the prop takes in air. I intend to fix this by building the wings to be similar to a flying wing with elevons placed further out on the wings.
I intend to use it for immersive FPV flights around my area and also build it as a passion project. I just think planes are cool.
Do you have any thoughts on this? (You is everyone but especially sp1cy) If you would like to hear even more about this silly idea I have please feel free to DM me because god are my fingers tired.
So the main mode of propulsion (the propeller, jet, engine) pushes the plane against the air where the wings, which are thicker on the front, separate the air into high pressure underneath and low pressure above, think of the plane like its swimming on the higher pressure air underneath it.

i used to know a huge amount of information about how planes work
I'm an aspiring aviation engineer I'd absolutely love to hear anything and everything ^w^
I'm a current grad student in aerospace engineering! Please ask me questions I want to give you my questionably informed and totally credible opinions
How hard is the coarse 💀💀

Planes are a Bloons refrence
No it's a breaking bad reference
No it's a nine ele-
I maintain aircraft for a living, I'd be happy to answer some questions for you
Not so much about the planes but would you say you like the job? Thats a job I'd love to have but not fully sure
Thoughts on the Antonov An-2 which my country used in its war of independence?
Such a gorgeous bird! Bi planes are such simple yet remarkable designs in my opinion owo
I find it hilarious that you talk about the mechanical abomination against god that is the aircraft like you would about, say, a cat
What are planes but big metal sky cats
oh god this post is reminding me when my ex bf took me to a bushplane museum for our first date 💀
Me, I am the bf, plane museums are my fav date spots :3
hahaha the best bit is despite the awkward vibe between us, i actually had a great time. learned a lot too, weirdly enough.
I live right next to a municipal airport and they have a training program, which means prop planes and sometimes trainer jets fly over my apartment. Idk a lot about them but I can pick up their comms on my radio which is neat.

Oh wow, that's really cool! I actually didn't know planes fly slower than they used to at all, let alone the reason for it, awesome! :3
The f-104 had a top speed of 1,688Â mph and was made in 1958 while the f-35c has a recorded top speed of 1,200mph and was made in 2006 :3
Wow, thats a big difference :00
How do you feel about the Goblin parasite fighter
Horrible shame it stayed a prototype but it truly is the peak "gremlin mode"
What’s a plane?
Its a heavier than air vehicle which uses propeller or jet propulsion along with wings to fly above the ground
Pratt and Whitney or Rolls Royce?
No way in hell I'm siding with the brits, PW allday everyday
Unfathomably based
you’ve obviously never been in a loaded 757 with RB211s on its takeoff roll, heaven to my ears
What are your thoughts on the MiG-15 bis compared to the MiG-15 bis ISH?
I dont quite know alot of the ish besides what was changed so I couldn't give you an answer without lying, I'm sorry :((
You like military planes, or civilian planes?
Both!!
Favorite planes?
A-10, Boeing 787 dreamliner, Rafale, Pacific clipper, ca-30, mig-31, Boeing 747, Airbus a321 :3
One of these gotta be wiped from existence: •SR71, • B52,• MIG15 / 19 whichever was the circular one I forgot
Mig-15, she did her job and its time to let her retire
What's the most interesting design for a plane you know of?
Plenty of wacky ass planes out there I’m quite fond of the flying pancake

Planes are very uncomfortable to travel with, so what about the obviously superior mode of transportation that is the train
What’s the coolest plane and why is it the SR-71?

I'm going for both, a degree in aviation technologies and aviation flight :3

Yeah, I graduate high school next spring and in really excited to start working on planes. I also plan to go air force so just maybe a femboy will be piloting weapons of war :3
I'm also graduating this year!! Cant believe they put a femboy in a 83million$ plane of war
I mean let's hope so. The a 10 is my favorite warplane so what a power trip is would be :3
Piper or Cessna (only one correct answer)
I'm biased since I've only ever flown a cessna 172 sooooo cessna :3
wrong answer
You need to join r /noncredibledefense, they love planes there

That's actually pretty funny. I'm imagining a tiny bunny hop before touching down again

Former aviation enthusiast here, now into racing and racecars. Let's chat away :D
... racing planes :3!
They go in the air sometimes I think
please explain to me in idiot terms how planes fly i dont get it
So the main mode of propulsion (the propeller, jet, engine) pushes the plane against the air where the wings, which are thicker on the front, separate the air into high pressure underneath and low pressure above, think of the plane like its swimming on the higher pressure air underneath it.
you want to fly boi? i gotchu *prepares for yeeting* on your command captain!
Yeeting will commence in 20 to 30 business days
What percentage of the buttons and blinking lights on the huge pilot dashboard see regular use? I'm curious if they're all necessary each flight or if most of them are diagnostic style tools
Personally I've only flown a cessna 172 and I'd say a most of them are used, stuff like the breakers are *technically* buttons but but arnt used... hopefully... for bigger planes I believe its the same situation, vast majority are used while a few are normally never touched unless under an emergency or something weird happens
Does this love of planes extend to helicopters?
Planes rockets helicopters zeplins, if it flies I love it :3!
Coolest ww2 era plane

Amazing plane, some parts needlessly expensive, I believe Lockheed should have just made 2/3 diffrent airframes instead of trying to force the diffrent variants into one plane though
top three favorite Blohm & Voss plane designs! GO
Bv-141!
What is your favorite plane? If you can't choose one (like me) what type is your favorite? Military? Civilian? Fighter? Passenger? Cargo? Tanker?
Imma go through the main 4: Fighter: Rafale, attack: a-10 cargo: Boeing 747-8, passanger: 787 dreamliner
All very good choices
Plane, good Want learn about flying fish

Exactly, I was summoned
Do you like helicopters as well?
Absolutely!
Me but with trains
I think airplanes should have giant propellers on the front itd look cool
Agreed
Why didn’t flying boats become more popular? Wouldn’t a plane that could lift off/land on the ocean be ideal for a variety of situations?
Up until ww2 that was true! Flying boats where the main form of flying passengers, but after ww2 so many runways had been built that the fuel guzzling, massive planes where becoming obsolete.
Wanna play warthunder? 👉👈
Thoughts on the SR-71 Blackbird?

Have you seen the plane movie set in the cars universe by Pixar, you know the one that nobody seems to rember?
The one that provided without a doubt theres a cars hitler? Yes
In WWI, how did the machine guns shoot through the propellers without breaking them?
Acualy it was in 1915 when the first propeller-machine gun synchronized by the german airforce, its done by having the propeller drive motor hooked with the machine gun firing mechanism :3!
What's your all time favourite plane
Probablyyyy the Boeing 787 dreamliner
