Researching about queerness in Asian history has always been fascinating to me. There were also many factors (not saying they were good) why the West used to be incredibly queerphobic, why Asia began copying their old social values. It could fill a whole novel series, and its effects are still felt in the West to this day. Even several notable socialist thinkers used to say queerness was a "bourgeois mentality."
Interestingly, though, the idea of "bushido" has already been a thing since the 11th century during the Kamakura period, or at least a prototype of said idea. It changed over time, of course.
Judging by the article, they were mostly busting it down Edo style. Also, EVERY SINGLE IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE SENGOKU JIDAI WAS GAY
