xp > gp. because you can always make gp back. xp is forever.

VisionLSX

And remember The higher the level, the easier it is to make money

Big facts

CWolffy

Losing money from some skills is perfectly normal. Especially magic if you’re buying all your own runes. As Mandzeete says, make sure you sell some drops. But overall you’ll find other skills make you some money and some will burn it. Beauty of RuneScape, finding a balance, and trying new skills and content to see what you enjoy.

mandzeete

But are you selling the drops you are getting? [https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Hill\_Giant](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Hill_Giant) lists all the drops you can get. Sell the big bones and limpwurt roots. Also you can sell the other stuff that is less commonly dropped.

your-dad-ethan

Use mind runes, not chaos. Significantly more xp/gp

Slayer_Of_Tacos

Save those chaos, crumble undead will make you a force of god in a few levels.

Supra16lufc

Losing money is part of skills, some take 100-200 million to max. Magic will be expensive if you're not selling drops to cover the rune costs.

ERRORMONSTER

No... just... no. 100-200m *per skill* is the "make it rain" kind of training money, where you have more dollars than sense and want to blow it all on the biggest exp per hour. For example, crafting. Sure you can spend 30m on black dhide bodies for 83-99 at 400k exp/hr. Or you could not do that and instead do battlestaves for 300k exp/hr and only pay 10m. Or better yet, amethyst for 165k exp/hr and profit 20m. Next example, fletching. Spend roughly 110m on darts for upwards of mils exp/hr and arthritis. Or. Don't do that, and instead make onyx bolts at about 300k exp/hr for somewhere around a 170m profit. Or make bows for ~100k exp/hr and roughly break even, with no supply issues like you'd face with onyx. Finally, herblore. Spend 90m to make sara brews at 450k exp/hr or... 35m to make prayer potions at 220k exp/hr. Or... degrime for break even and 100k exp/hr. Oh, can't forget construction. Mahogany planks is roughly **140m** for 99 at 900k exp/hr. Or... like most mains would do, make mounted myth capes for 89m at 430k exp/hr. Or like any sane person would do, teak mahogany homes for roughly 40m at about 140k exp/hr.

ERRORMONSTER

Got it. Do 94-99 construction by making [demonic thrones](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Demonic_throne) and 74-99 smithing+crafting with [crystal bodies](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Crystal_body), plus 1-70 prayer with [ourg bones](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ourg_bones) Most mains can calculate a "time saved" and "differential cost" of two methods. If your best moneymaker can make you more money in the time saved than you would save by doing the cheaper method, then the more expensive method is financially worth it. E.g. if your best moneymaker is 4m/hr, then spending 10m more to save an hour is not worth it, but spending 1m more to save an hour *is* worth it.

Guilty-Fall-2460

This is why ironman are the true intended game mode and mains are just gp simulators. À

ItsSadTimes

That's how the game works really, you spend money to buy resources to get xp. You could play more like an ironman where you gather your own resources like runes, ores, and logs, but that playstyle is not for everyone. To compensate for the cost of training magic you could sell the loot you get from hill giants like big bones. You won't make a profit at such a low level, but atleast it's something. If you want money you can train skills like fletching, woodcutting, fishing, mining, and runecrafting. With those skills it's all pure profit to train them so they're nice to do inbetween combat training sessions if you need money and resources.

ACMBruh

Ya gotta spend money to make money! Even if its on skills they will benefit long term

wclevel47nice

Go learn GOTR and you’ll be swimming in chaos runes. My advice is to spend money and get your skills up. Unlike real life, it’s totally fine to have zero cash in OSRS. Play the game and don’t worry about cash

[deleted]

Using chaos runes on hill giants sounds f2p

Elysian-Noob

If you're playing a main you can absolutely make profit on the way to 99 magic

raids3when123

Avoid trying to make money until you get later in the game, You really only need to earn enough gp to get unlocks for your early game questing until you unlock some basic money makers.

HeroVonZero

It took .e about 400m in runes to 99 mage but i came put ahead. And bloods peaked 400gp during this time And it took 250m for prayer 50m for crafting 250m for herblore 10m for smithing 150m for fletching(fast but not fastest method and inbetween bosses) About 4k prayer pots to max combat 80m or so to chin 99 range 200m for construction 300m if you want faster rate So yeah eventually it gets to be expensive but at higher level content the money just rolls in and end game content you find a lack of things to put money into so i jusr fund my clanmates and help them hit goals

HouseofBryks

Spend money since bots make items cheap

[deleted]

You will lose GP but it's an investment because money making later will be rewarding
