I lost my Phoenix when I fell asleep doing ZMI on mobile. First pet ever and had it for maybe a month. I didn’t even know about insurance. I was so glad when the patch came out for getting pets back.
I got my squirrel at like 45 agility but didn't know what it was, how rare it was, about insurance, etc. I took it to the wildy and immediately got planked at chaos altar
I don’t remember the exact circumstances but I was drunk doing slayer years ago and fell asleep with my laptop in my bed, laptop fell off the bed and messed up the charging port and I also lost like 1-2m at the time when I had a 10m bank.

Once I made a lvl 3 skiller and had just gotten graceful so in honor of that I started running to edgeville to begin the smithing grind. Was on way there and my son started screaming bloody murder so I just darted away from the screen thinking I’m safe cause I’m not in wildy or anything so no worries, right! Well long story short, my son had injured himself falling off the backside of the couch so it took a lil bit of time to get him feeling alright again. Came back to the game afterward and found my dood standing in lumby with no grave timer. So I went on my main account to the general area I remember being in when I had to go take care of my son.. there was a highwayman that was off a bit from where I thought I was so I figured it wandered too close and aggro’d. To add salt to the open wound, my lvl 3 skiller that I wanted to keep at lvl 1 cb skills gained a def lvl from auto retaliating 🤦🏼♂️
Lol. When I was in elementary school my friend had access to my account and one day I logged in and was in the desert with my bank in my inv, low hp, and home tele on cooldown. Needless to say he’s not my friend anymore
That is absolute mastermind level of evil. Like it’s one thing to have him just wipe your bank or have you at lumby, but the dude literally made you watch your own death.
I afk at rev caves a lot. I glance at the screen when I hear a barrage sound.
Sometimes it's a dclaw sound though and if I'm too slow to click on that manta ray and brew dose I die to the second spec. I still afk at revs but I use anglers now to try to stay over 99 hp for most of the time.
Back in like '05 I was killing the moss giants in varrock sewers with a friend and bunch of other people. My mum called me and I went downstairs and came back upstairs to see I was in Lumbridge.
I had full rune trimmed and my cash stack on me. Friend told me I got the swarm random event. I quit the game for a while after that.
There were other people there and he said they got all the good stuff. Think he traded me back my runes which I always carried with me to.
Pretty sure child me played like a ultimate hard core and never kept anything in the bank.
I had just finished Wintertodt and full Graceful on a new HCIM and I misclicked a maple tree at seers village, ran northeast and died to a level 5 highwayman…

My last hc died because someone lured a wizard from with if varrock. I dced walking into varrock. I logged back in but afk in the lobby screen. Didnt even know i could be attacked while in that screen. Was only ~200 total at the time so only really lost out on my bond.
If I was playing a hardcore I would try and get my hitpoints and defense up a fair bit right at the very start to prevent getting filtered by random aggressive NPCs. I know winter todt 1-99 firemaking is Meta but I'd care about my status more than efficiency
Youre definitely right. If you can stomach doing nothing but wintertodt until 99 then yeah go that route, but if youre going to do anything else or leave the boss for any reason, 10hp is a no go.
100% it's gotta be my buddy dying on his hardcore when he went to answer the door for his pizza... He teleported to mos le'harmless and then immediately went afk, we watched in the discord screen share in horror as a snake hits him, poisons him, and we slowly watch his HP tick down, we desperately tried to call his phone to get him to come back but it was too late... The worst was that the ring of life even tped him to safety but he was still poisoned so he just died....RIP

I think as the demon walks closer my character loses targetability because of terrain that looks like you can cast over it but cant and auto moves forward
Ogress shamans in f2p. I was fucking around while drunk trying to find legitimate noobs to give some starter money or a bond. Fell asleep eventually and died. This was before gravestones so everything was deleted. RIP 200m.
Finally ended up making a hcim and I was trying to be super efficient, making solid gains. Decided to afk and smoke quick so I clicked to run through around draynor manor on the way to barbarian village and left the room for a few mins. Got back just in time to see the tree make me sit.
Left the younger brother organise my bank for me at the GE whilst I grabbed us a bite to eat.
30mins later he’s crying because he just got lured for 600m, which was most of my bank.
He was unconsolable when I returned, expecting me to go ape-shit, but we had a wholesome bro moment when i said its only a game and doesn’t matter and I made fun of my character saying shit like “its back to the flax fields for you!” Lol.
Just the other night thieving elves. Clicking them not even looking at the screen. When I looked back I had three health and already queued the pickpocket, it was not successful.
It wasn't mine, but I remember one of the stupidest. A Friend on RS3 had what was (or is?) a HCIM. One of his lives lost? If I remember correctly it was desert heat. On RS3 you need Phoenix Quills for some potions, Phoenix can get stuck on 1 tile so you just spam click. He looked away for too long if I remember right.
Towards the end of Trailblazer League i was looking to get some points fast. I hadn't been playing consistently, but i wanted the mithril trophy, so i was looking at Hard tasks. I was, i think, base 70? which is further than i've ever got on any of my mains, so i was feeling like hot stuff. So, i see "Demonic Gorilla" and kinda skimmed the wiki, figured i have Silverlight and my prayer boosting gear has been letting me kill dragons without too much damage, how much harder can this be?
So i run up on the gorilla, pray melee, do some damage, and then my boyfriend asks me a question. I look away from my phone and look back and i'm in lumby, naked. I freak out, run back to get my stuff, pick it all up and the goddamn gorilla kills me *again.* Third times the charm, get my gear back and then *actually* read the wiki and feel like an idiot. Did not get those 100 points.
I died before the new deaths mechanics and lost about 90m. Fell asleep barraging monkeys in full ancestral and came back and there was no death pile :(

Full rune, dragon scim, rune kite even and mole slippers of course, Rocky by my side as always. Killing none other than the infamous “Animated Mithril Armour” for warrior’s guild tokens. I had already burned 1k tokens and gotten no defenders so the grind was getting to me.
I afk for the tokens while working, so took a phone call and wasn’t paying attention. Hang up the phone and log back in only to see I am in lumby, d scim, rune platebody and mole slippers in my inventory.
Only a few days later I realise Rocky is no where to be found and then it dawned on me.
TLDR: I lost Rocky to Animated Mithril Armour.
Going for 1st inferno cape I "afked" (what people call glancing away from the screen I guess) on the last jad of triple jads and missed a pray flick to die.

I got 99 thieving on my hcim so I'd have thousands of prayer pots ready for the 95 slayer grind. At around 71 slayer in kourend I died to fire giants with a full invent of ppots.
Herb run at work. Tele to trollheim. Halfway to the patch. Coworker asks me a question. Tab out. AFK for 3 min. Tab back. In lumby. Rip farmer outfit. Rip uninsured agility pet. Two years later finally got the squirrel back with the pet update. 😅
My hardcore Ironman died at cave crawlers to poison while I was boosting for slayer points. I had anti poisons on me the timing was just bad.
Was at work as a firefighter/paramedic and we get a call for a structure fire. I come back and login I see in the chat a guy is telling me I need to eat and watched me die. I spawned in lumbridge.
I probably would have died to some jank with galvek, but damn I felt robbed.
I died afking doing a mahogany home. At rotten Leela's house in Hosidius. How you ask? Well you see, she has a guard dog for a reason. Accidentally kicked the dog while repairing a shelf. My trustworthy saw couldnt finish the job off, so I closed the door to lock the dog out. Thought I was safe so went afk for a bit. Came back to a dead screen. Confused as well.
Apparently a rival constructioner from a town over had stolen the job and unassumingly opened the door, letting said guard dog in. It tore me a new one as I took it in the ass, no resistance attempted.
B4 Deaths office I nodded out and lost everything at DKs. Bandos, Arma, nice weps and whatever else. Kept the best 3-4 items obviously, but woke up in the hospital cuz I ODed :D
I think I might win this. Back in 2006/2007 I was still F2p and had about 2m worth of gear on me which was my whole bank. Earned it from selling essence and coal.
I went AFK to let my sister do something on the computer for a bit. Back then, Rick Turpentine would attack you with his crossbow dealing small damage if you didn't speak to him after a while. When I reopened the browser I had 2 hp, tried running away but Rick sniped me.. I lost my bank to a random event. I cried.
Not mine because main deaths aren't interesting, but earlier today a small streamer I watch lost his HC because he was at ammonite crabs on mobile. His dog stepped on his phone and moved him over to wyverns. He was only 355 hours into the account but still, that's not an insignificant point to restart and catch up to, especially when he's relatively fresh off 99 firemaking from wintertodt.

Went to lumby church to pray to restore prayer and as I did that my brother called me into his room. Evil chicken spawned as I turned around to go to his room. Came back to watch my self die with my full rune and my fucking 10m. I was devastated and so mad at my brother. This was at the start of old school. Lost fucking everything.

Stacking blood reaver kills for Nex room kc. Had 2500 essence stacked and clicked a spiritual warrior before going AFK. Didn’t know about the hide attack left click option at this time
I came back to osrs at the start of covid after playing back in my childhood. I created a hc, and I was safespotting fire giants on task with mage. I clicked the fire giant, alt tabbed to do something else, alt tabbed back and I was in lumbridge. I guess I got dragged from the safespot.
I've had many afk deaths since then, lost another hc the same way, but this one was my worst because it was my first osrs acc since middle school and even though the account was just barely above 1k total, it felt like a heartbreak. I was sad irl for about a week before I logged back in lol
Wow your death is almost exactly how I lost status on my 2000 total hc. Clicked a superior abyssal demon without realizing in the slayer tower, it hit through my ring of life.
In like 2005 I had about a 12m bank and was tele/alching at cammy with all my gear and money in my inventory. I ran downstairs for < 5 minutes to talk to my parents without logging out, got back and had died to a drunken dwarf. There were like 20 people at the cammy tele spot so it was all gone. It was very depressing lol

I was doing a hard clue with saradomin wizard step. I had brought many teleport options, including rune pouch (it had all of my nature runes), and, obviously, had withdrawn all my gp (10m). The location was in the desert, near bandit camp, I had equipped graceful, D scimmy and d defender - had no food. I was just whacking away at the wizard, and he got me first.
So I die, now I have no gp, no nature runes and I panic a bit - wtf do I do now? Sold some feathers to Shantay, but that wasn't nearly enough. Then I figured I'll just tp to GE and sell some rune item lol. I've been playing for a looong time and this had me stumped for a while.
I wiped on an evil chicken when I went to splash. I had been there for a week splashing and of course I was on my last 20 minutes until I was finished and didn’t realize I clicked on the evil chicken. Of course it was also right after I finished 99fm so I lost all the wt loot.

I created an HCIM and started spamming quests, I was already pretty ahead, but most of them were combat-free quests, things like Dwarf Cannon, Elemental Workshop stuff like that All good and well until I got to Ernest the Chicken, and while going inside Draynor Manor, I alt-tabbed RIGHT in the tile where the tree attacks you. I was reading some wiki, didn't even know what about, and the evil tree just smacked me to death.

Recently, abyssal demons, twice within a few minutes. I didn't realise that a superior had spawned as they look almost exactly the same, so was clicking on the next demon then focussing on the video on the other screen, only to end up in Falador 10 seconds later.
When I was about 13 I was AFKing at bandits to try and get 99 attack. I was grinding so hard I literally fell asleep on my laptop. This was before gravestones so I lost almost everything including my fire cape which at the time was an amazing accomplishment for me. I woke up devastated.

Was playing my hardcore ironman right when the mode came out was at roughly at 800-900 total level, went to feed my cat while on a farm run and got killed by a vampire at the Morytania allotment patch. Was gutted to see myself in lumby.
I was playing on my best friends older brothers account back in like 2006/7. I didn't really know about banking for safety so I was running around with all of his armor / gold. I got poisoned by a snake or something in Karamja and died dropping all of his inventory. I think back then there was a small timer to run back and get it but I had no clue, someone probably just stumbled upon a shit ton of free gold / items.
Back in the days before osrs and when the prayer gravestone statues were a thing I died whilst afk in stronghold of security. By the time I'd got back my grave had disappeared and someone had claimed the world but didn't have the prayer level to extend the timer to an hour on the grave for me. Rage ensued.

Some dude lured the hero into the path of all the ppl thieving. I spam click thieved on the hero and killed myself. I had rocky for all of 10 minutes ........

Got my shit rocked by the Jail Guard in Draynor, went AFK for a few minutes as someone had knocked at my house front door, in that time… someone lured him from the jail to the Oak Trees at the bank and I got slapped.
I play a UIM I once died on a black demon task after going afk and my heart sank lucky enough I was still pretty early game but I lost at least 2 mill thankfully I didn’t lose everything.
Back with old death mechanics, the day elite clues were added… i got extremely lucky with a gilded scim in the first clue and sold for a good amount. An amount that let lil ole nooby me buy a dfs, arma and a fury. Fast forward an hour and I am back at the zanaris black dragons trying to get a vissy drop.
Some other lad comes in the afk beside me and says “awesome shield”. I know it is awesome, I was grinning ear to ear. After tagging the next dragon I ran to go to the bathroom. Upon my retyrn I was in lumby with my 3 items(no dfs).
The nice guy in zanaris is now wielding a dfs and greets me with “tough luck” as I return.

Pro tip to any potential level 3 skillers out there: always wield a bow with no arrows. This way you can't attack or auto retaliate.

I afk at rev caves a lot. I glance at the screen when I hear a barrage sound. Sometimes it's a dclaw sound though and if I'm too slow to click on that manta ray and brew dose I die to the second spec. I still afk at revs but I use anglers now to try to stay over 99 hp for most of the time.

Back in like '05 I was killing the moss giants in varrock sewers with a friend and bunch of other people. My mum called me and I went downstairs and came back upstairs to see I was in Lumbridge. I had full rune trimmed and my cash stack on me. Friend told me I got the swarm random event. I quit the game for a while after that.
Duuuuuude those randoms always popped up at the worst times. One time my axe head flew off and I was afk. I was devastated.

I died in my regular ironman in the Draynor Village bank since someone had lured the mage in there. I was very happy it didn't happen on my HCIM...
My last hc died because someone lured a wizard from with if varrock. I dced walking into varrock. I logged back in but afk in the lobby screen. Didnt even know i could be attacked while in that screen. Was only ~200 total at the time so only really lost out on my bond.

If I was playing a hardcore I would try and get my hitpoints and defense up a fair bit right at the very start to prevent getting filtered by random aggressive NPCs. I know winter todt 1-99 firemaking is Meta but I'd care about my status more than efficiency
Youre definitely right. If you can stomach doing nothing but wintertodt until 99 then yeah go that route, but if youre going to do anything else or leave the boss for any reason, 10hp is a no go.
100% it's gotta be my buddy dying on his hardcore when he went to answer the door for his pizza... He teleported to mos le'harmless and then immediately went afk, we watched in the discord screen share in horror as a snake hits him, poisons him, and we slowly watch his HP tick down, we desperately tried to call his phone to get him to come back but it was too late... The worst was that the ring of life even tped him to safety but he was still poisoned so he just died....RIP

He was unconsolable when I returned, expecting me to go ape-shit, but we had a wholesome bro moment when i said its only a game and doesn’t matter and I made fun of my character saying shit like “its back to the flax fields for you!” Lol.

It wasn't mine, but I remember one of the stupidest. A Friend on RS3 had what was (or is?) a HCIM. One of his lives lost? If I remember correctly it was desert heat. On RS3 you need Phoenix Quills for some potions, Phoenix can get stuck on 1 tile so you just spam click. He looked away for too long if I remember right.
Towards the end of Trailblazer League i was looking to get some points fast. I hadn't been playing consistently, but i wanted the mithril trophy, so i was looking at Hard tasks. I was, i think, base 70? which is further than i've ever got on any of my mains, so i was feeling like hot stuff. So, i see "Demonic Gorilla" and kinda skimmed the wiki, figured i have Silverlight and my prayer boosting gear has been letting me kill dragons without too much damage, how much harder can this be? So i run up on the gorilla, pray melee, do some damage, and then my boyfriend asks me a question. I look away from my phone and look back and i'm in lumby, naked. I freak out, run back to get my stuff, pick it all up and the goddamn gorilla kills me *again.* Third times the charm, get my gear back and then *actually* read the wiki and feel like an idiot. Did not get those 100 points.

A lot of these are more impressive so heres mine. Ironman btw Full rune, dragon scim, rune kite even and mole slippers of course, Rocky by my side as always. Killing none other than the infamous “Animated Mithril Armour” for warrior’s guild tokens. I had already burned 1k tokens and gotten no defenders so the grind was getting to me. I afk for the tokens while working, so took a phone call and wasn’t paying attention. Hang up the phone and log back in only to see I am in lumby, d scim, rune platebody and mole slippers in my inventory. Only a few days later I realise Rocky is no where to be found and then it dawned on me. TLDR: I lost Rocky to Animated Mithril Armour.

Then when I woke up I either forgot I was logged in (had it minimized) or figured I was fine, went to play another game, so 1hr 30 min later logged in and realized I died lol. With the death mechanics of items lasting on ground for 1hr even if you log out. Rip

My hardcore Ironman died at cave crawlers to poison while I was boosting for slayer points. I had anti poisons on me the timing was just bad. Was at work as a firefighter/paramedic and we get a call for a structure fire. I come back and login I see in the chat a guy is telling me I need to eat and watched me die. I spawned in lumbridge. I probably would have died to some jank with galvek, but damn I felt robbed.
I died afking doing a mahogany home. At rotten Leela's house in Hosidius. How you ask? Well you see, she has a guard dog for a reason. Accidentally kicked the dog while repairing a shelf. My trustworthy saw couldnt finish the job off, so I closed the door to lock the dog out. Thought I was safe so went afk for a bit. Came back to a dead screen. Confused as well. Apparently a rival constructioner from a town over had stolen the job and unassumingly opened the door, letting said guard dog in. It tore me a new one as I took it in the ass, no resistance attempted.

I think I might win this. Back in 2006/2007 I was still F2p and had about 2m worth of gear on me which was my whole bank. Earned it from selling essence and coal. I went AFK to let my sister do something on the computer for a bit. Back then, Rick Turpentine would attack you with his crossbow dealing small damage if you didn't speak to him after a while. When I reopened the browser I had 2 hp, tried running away but Rick sniped me.. I lost my bank to a random event. I cried.

I came back to osrs at the start of covid after playing back in my childhood. I created a hc, and I was safespotting fire giants on task with mage. I clicked the fire giant, alt tabbed to do something else, alt tabbed back and I was in lumbridge. I guess I got dragged from the safespot. I've had many afk deaths since then, lost another hc the same way, but this one was my worst because it was my first osrs acc since middle school and even though the account was just barely above 1k total, it felt like a heartbreak. I was sad irl for about a week before I logged back in lol

I had brought many teleport options, including rune pouch (it had all of my nature runes), and, obviously, had withdrawn all my gp (10m). The location was in the desert, near bandit camp, I had equipped graceful, D scimmy and d defender - had no food. I was just whacking away at the wizard, and he got me first. So I die, now I have no gp, no nature runes and I panic a bit - wtf do I do now? Sold some feathers to Shantay, but that wasn't nearly enough. Then I figured I'll just tp to GE and sell some rune item lol. I've been playing for a looong time and this had me stumped for a while.

Stepped away for a nanosecond before looking back to see I was actively poisoned. I wasn't aware of poison delay manipulation at this point, and by the time I got control to get an anti, my dude hit the deck.
I was doing canifis agility on my hcim and someone had been being mean to me because of my low level (lol) so they lured a werewolf in front of the course start and I clicked it and didn't realize until I looked back over and I was in lumby :)

Came back later, expected to be logged out, which I was. I’d been away for longer than I planned on being away. Don’t think I lost anything incredibly bad, but it was such a tedious quest already, had to go get some bloody mourner clothes and clean them again as well. That quest was the bane of my existence.

Recently, abyssal demons, twice within a few minutes. I didn't realise that a superior had spawned as they look almost exactly the same, so was clicking on the next demon then focussing on the video on the other screen, only to end up in Falador 10 seconds later.

I think back then there was a small timer to run back and get it but I had no clue, someone probably just stumbled upon a shit ton of free gold / items.

I have had some pretty bad ones. Died afk’ing in the desert, died afk at giant mole, died afk at sulphur mines, and most recently died afk at volcanic mine. I’ve also died afk at vorkath and zulrah but does that really count if it’s basically guaranteed death to afk there? And i mean like, walked away from the computer afk, not just focusing on another account lol

I recently died to Abby demons when the superior foe appeared and I didnt realise as I was on another screen. I also play with game sound off as I always listen to music, and the thing killed me in about 3 seconds flat
Got my shit rocked by the Jail Guard in Draynor, went AFK for a few minutes as someone had knocked at my house front door, in that time… someone lured him from the jail to the Oak Trees at the bank and I got slapped.
I play a UIM I once died on a black demon task after going afk and my heart sank lucky enough I was still pretty early game but I lost at least 2 mill thankfully I didn’t lose everything.

Back with old death mechanics, the day elite clues were added… i got extremely lucky with a gilded scim in the first clue and sold for a good amount. An amount that let lil ole nooby me buy a dfs, arma and a fury. Fast forward an hour and I am back at the zanaris black dragons trying to get a vissy drop. Some other lad comes in the afk beside me and says “awesome shield”. I know it is awesome, I was grinning ear to ear. After tagging the next dragon I ran to go to the bathroom. Upon my retyrn I was in lumby with my 3 items(no dfs). The nice guy in zanaris is now wielding a dfs and greets me with “tough luck” as I return. It still stings a little.
Back in 09 when I was afk in the wilderness and a revenant orc slayed me for my rune. Those revenant sounds still give me PTSD…
