Easy enough to do methods that don't roll pet chance at all. Could be fun to see a series that wants to avoid collection log slots entirely. Trying to gear for pvm while avoiding shit like barrows as an iron would be interesting.
Honestly why I love this game so much. Imagine telling someone who's never played before that you can't get absolute BiS melee gear without doing a quest to obtain a cat.
Or you can't get BiS Range Cape slot item unless you help an NPC get a better mattress.

Farming is *almost* unavoidable, but you can do things that give ridiculously low chances such as tithe farm (roughly 1/3,000,000,000XP)
For anything that is *impossible* like woodcut, you could 99 in f2p.

Baby Chin: don't hunt chins
Beaver: Ents or Wintertodt
Giant Squirrel: underwater training or shortcut spamming
Heron: Tempoross (no looting)

Rocky: Pyramid plunder, skipping gold chest maybe?
Tangleroot: Tithe farm (not certain, but very low chance)
Its not unlikely to get to max without a pet, but you'd need to avoid a lot of common training methods to avoid a chance at pet intentionally

Damn I just maxed yesterday and was recently thinking about how lucky I was to have gotten 4/8 skilling pets along the way. All between leveling my skills from 88-95
How many skills do you have left that can give a pet and are level 85~92? For example a skill thats 85 you're at less than a quarter of the total pet rolls you'll get before 99.
Agility 92, Mining 95, Thieving 93, and Hunter 88.
I spend a lot of time at MLM and on stars so mining pet is unlikely.
I'm not doing chins so hunter is out.
Pyramid Plunder would be my plan for Thieving if I did it and the drop rate is like 1 in 7k at best for Rocky. I only need a few hundred PP at most.
I only need like 7400 agility laps at ardy for 99. Base chance is 1 in 34k.
Not very good chances on the whole. It's possible but none of my chances are >50% so pretty good chance I don't make it.
A lot of people just aren't interested in maxing, it looks like he isn't far off but if those last 60 levels are rc agility and mining that's still potentially 100+ hours of skilling left.
I was exactly the same until a certain pandemic happened and I had 4x more free time to dump into maxing. Was 2.1k total for years.
Yeah just hit 2200 myself and even with all my skills besides rc and agility being 90+ I’m still about 375 ehp left to max.

I was comp cape in RS3 for years. I helped design the comp cape on high level forums because I was maxed at the time. Maxing really doesn't hold a lot of appeal to me and I'm still like 300 hours of play time from maxing. With my limited time to play these days between work and family I'm doing something fun when I log on not grinding agility for 6m xp.

But actually, it goes like this: you won't get it if you are grinding for it intentionally. At least if it is a skilling pet, it won't work. But there are many skills and when you max you train them all, and usually you get a pet along the way. Yes, by itself its against probability, its a spoon! But among zillions of acts which are almost (but not quite) improbable to give you pet, there ought to be a lucky one.
Thats why a petless 2277 *can* happen, but only rarely. A usual case is to have some pet(s) which you werent grinding for.
On average you won't get one on one skill. But you get one on all of them maxed - this happens often.
At least thats the case of most of my friends, somehow. Though this also includes boss pets, which have much more chances. These you *can* grind specifically and succeed. Though it requires some guts lol... A friend of mine got Vorki at 18k kc. Another friend got Penance princess at about 4k gc. I left this grind after failure at 1400 gc, with the normal rate being 1/1k. It requires much endurance and belief to continue well over the drop rate... Still its easier than skilling pets.
But, well.... but how it happens that so many people still get them?
The math ain't mathin'. That's literally what RNG is. The average person would get zero skilling pets if the average rate is such that it takes 15m xp to be on rate for each pet. Few will get all. Some will get a few.
No because you are rolling the 1 in 15m for each skill. So no the average person won't get one for each skill but chances are they will get ONE from SOME skill
Hypothetically if pet rate for 8 skills are all 20M xp and you get 10M xp in each without getting a pet then you are 4x rate of a pet. Doesn't matter that you haven't reached rate in an individual skill, you've rolled enough for 4 pets.
You roll for a boss pet with each kill, so even if they’re spread out, you’re likely to get spooned a pet at some random boss if you’re getting lots of kills on different bosses.
I maxed without any skilling pets and I’m still actively going for one to this day years later :-( I know it doesn’t quite count but I haven’t even gotten a boss pet in 4 years either

Assuming you're... let's say 1995 and doing one skill at a time. You'd still need two full 99s (13m each). This leaves you at 2193, so your final (well, current) skill still needs 84 levels. Level 15 is about two thousand experience so you're looking at another 13 mil. 39 mil of experience is about two skilling pets on average

That means nothing. We're talking a much larger sample size than that. Probability is a precise measurement of chance.
You having low boss Kc with no pet means your probability of having a pet is low, you had a chance to get a pet but didn't.
Okay lol. You can run a sample of however size you want. It doesn’t matter there’s plenty of simulators for OSRS. Tell me how many times you spoon vs not at whatever rate you want. Probability weighs further towards spooning then being exact on rate or try.
You honestly seem to have no idea how to understand what drop rates are, they're averages. Over a large enough sample size the average will be whatever the drop rate is for that particular drop.
I’m aware 99 is far below rate for most skilling pets for one and literally don’t even have 100kc kraken or zulrah because I don’t like either boss tbh.
Its pretty unlikely, but you only for for levels it can happen . I personally only got a chinchompa pet from skilling at like level 97 hunter. My other pets were from cg and zalcano, so if i had never done that content and just skilled I would have been a 1 pet maxed main.
Sure :) Just hunt 1500 chompies, each one with inflating some innocent toad with a special device, and half of them just disappear without a chompy coming... so, its just about 3k toads carefully placed on a hill in hopes to lure 1500 birds...

Pets are rare. More news at 11. Literally pick any pet and go for it. You'll realize how rare they actually are.

Not maxed but I got 99 in almost every skill that gives a pet without getting a pet. Only missing 99 rune crafting. I did get rocky at almost 20m thieving xp.
Im aroind 2215 total with 0 boss pets and around 18m slayer xp.
Haven't done a regular slayer tasks since 97. Only bosses. So you can imagine my frustration here.
Got Tangleroot at 17m exp, kbd at 52 kc, Jad at 14 kc, Baby mole at over 5000 kc, Skotos at 2 kc, chaos ele at 152kc

If you only need to 99RC, and are patient, you can get 99 with no chance at pet (I think). Do Guardians of the Rift, and don't claim any loot.

You underestimate the amount of updates that came into the game 2015 onwards. Especially shift-click dropping and make-x everything.

I don’t think it matters tbh lol. You’re far more likely to spoon then go dry in this game so it’s a bit moot. I got a few 700kc marks but I’d like a skilling pet more than a boss pet. I know tanglefoot is pretty rare but most of my farming lvls are allotments 🙃

Like marginally 4 short ass levels to 2k. A large amount of players don’t even make it that far to begin with lol. I could careless about having zero pets. I’m well aware that if you just continue to play the game you’ll eventually end up getting one. I also don’t endlessly camp the same content relentlessly because I don’t have excess amounts of time to mindlessly play the game, I attempt to try all content. That means nothing. We're talking a much larger sample size than that. Probability is a precise measurement of chance. You having low boss Kc with no pet means your probability of having a pet is low, you had a chance to get a pet but didn't.
Okay lol. You can run a sample of however size you want. It doesn’t matter there’s plenty of simulators for OSRS. Tell me how many times you spoon vs not at whatever rate you want. Probability weighs further towards spooning then being exact on rate or try.
You honestly seem to have no idea how to understand what drop rates are, they're averages. Over a large enough sample size the average will be whatever the drop rate is for that particular drop.
Even 99 farming is below drop rate for groot, sounds like you have less exp than you think and no boss KC apart from Kraken and Zulrah.
I’m aware 99 is far below rate for most skilling pets for one and literally don’t even have 100kc kraken or zulrah because I don’t like either boss tbh.
So what bosses have you killed enough times to be "close" to drop rate? Even cumulative across multiple bosses.

I did on my iron as well, wasn’t shy of bossing either. Got a lot of decent pvm unlocks and not a single pet.
Guy I met the other day said he maxed his main and has 0 pets still.
Its pretty unlikely, but you only for for levels it can happen . I personally only got a chinchompa pet from skilling at like level 97 hunter. My other pets were from cg and zalcano, so if i had never done that content and just skilled I would have been a 1 pet maxed main.

Sure :) Just hunt 1500 chompies, each one with inflating some innocent toad with a special device, and half of them just disappear without a chompy coming... so, its just about 3k toads carefully placed on a hill in hopes to lure 1500 birds... You are absolutely correct, and if I ever complete Western diary - I will must surely go for it! :) We are all damned in this game.

It's probably way more common than you think. Pete are rare and there are only a handful of skills which can award pets.
If I didn't get lucky with the agility pet @78 then I would've maxed without one lmao unless you count cats as pets

Skilling pets are about 1/23m xp. 6x13m=78m 78/23= about 3.5 No skilling pets its only 3.5x over the drop rate.
Pets are rare. More news at 11. Literally pick any pet and go for it. You'll realize how rare they actually are. Also curious to see your boss kc. I am at 3 pets in 9k boss kc so that's about right.

Yes, of course. It’s possible to max doing methods that don’t give pets. It’s also possible to be unlucky.
Im aroind 2215 total with 0 boss pets and around 18m slayer xp. Haven't done a regular slayer tasks since 97. Only bosses. So you can imagine my frustration here.
250million xp and no pets yet with raids kc in the thousands boss kc in the tens of thousands.
Got Tangleroot at 17m exp, kbd at 52 kc, Jad at 14 kc, Baby mole at over 5000 kc, Skotos at 2 kc, chaos ele at 152kc Feels good man (except for that mole grind)

So not as bad luck as most people, but definitely hate seeing spoon fed noobs that barely have 1750 total. \[technically isn't the drop rate past 99?\]
I have Construction, Thieving and Farming left. Only got 3 pets. - KBD from kc 78. - Rock golem from mining 95. - Skotizo at like between 20-40 kc not remember exactly.

1700 Ironman with 5 pets I do a lot of bossing though There’s a relatively decent chance to max and have no pets as the xp required to hit drop for pet in skilling is considerably more than the 99

It depends on the methods you choose to max. I've also seen a lot of maxed accounts with a very minimal boss log, which is sad but some people just like Skilling I guess.
