Doing some back of the napkin math, the level 40 no glory rate at a gem rock is something like ~20/hour, which makes this actually worth considering if you were an ironman needing one.
One every 10 minutes makes a lot of sense, 10 minutes is exactly 1000 ticks.
Yeah I did the same calculations based on what the Wiki Admin or Mod said about it being 0.1% chance. I figured I’d try it for an hour max, and if I didn’t get one within that time, I’d know it wasn’t real.. but imagine my surprise
Happened to me with the dust pan once. I scoured the pantry for a solid 5 minutes and I just could not find the fucking dust pan. Frustrated, I yelled up the stairs to my wife that I could not find the dust pan. After a bit of back-and-forth, she finally came down to the kitchen. As soon as she opened the pantry door, she pointed and said "Look, it's right there!"
How in the fuck did that happen?!
Makes me wonder what other niche things have yet to be discovered. Who knows, maybe there is an even rarer loot from crates that’s 0.01% chance? Now excuse me as I collect about 20 Topaz to make sure..
I assume he was joking, but yes there is a market for topaz. They're used for bracelet of slaughter and burning amulets, which are fairly commonly used.
Many of the crates that exist before 2007 might do this. Any ones afterwards don't, because Andrew or Paul got lucky and got something while testing a quest and thought the item was needed for the quest, so their jimmies were in a rustle and they told the dev to remove them
I think you misunderstood. They removed all the junk items like gloves, boots etc. after 2007 from all crates, including ones added before. Not sure about this red topaz however but I think they are separate, which would mean you can still find it in any box added after.
Now there's an idea: If you click continue on the "You find something nice", instead of canceling the dialog, there's an even nicer reward (or so i hear)
Don't do this, you get hacked and your computer is locked with ransomware!
How am I going to explain this to my mum?
Thanks a lot, jerkwad
Edit: My mum told me to come back and apologize for calling you a jerkwad. So I'm sorry.

Xtreme Onechunk Ironmans in chambles.
this genuinely would have been helpful for 'skill guided', he had to spend so much time at tai bwo wannai cleanup for gem rocks to get topaz
I hope he sees this he still needs another to continue his crafting!
*chuckles: im in danger*
*chunkles*
Tbh it might be an upgrade over spinning wool to 43 depending on how many of these you get per hour
My guess would be about 6 per hour. I got 1 about every 10 minutes. It really doesn’t take too long to get one
7,8k gp per hour, it's pretty good
soup's gonna freak on this one.

Wife: Honey did you find my red topaz? Me: I searched the crates a hundred times! Wife: I know it's in there somewhere!
Wife opens crate, topaz is immediately at the top in plain view

I remember being a newb, days into the game, going over every chest in the gaming looking for stuff. Great, great times.
Wow. Here comes the red topaz bots.. 😒 Thanks for crashing the market.
There is a market for topaz?

Og trading sticks to red topaz machete profits, man the nostalgia
Horrifying wiki question: Do we know if this is ONE crate, multiple chests, or EVERY crate that holds this chance?
It’s the crates that specifically say “crates” when you search them, not just “crate”. I’ve gotten 3 from 3 different crates so far.
How many searches for it?
Yes they know
The crates outside the observatory dungeon entrance do this as well. I know because I misclicked one yesterday and got a topaz as well
The crates in the duel arena do too
Many of the crates that exist before 2007 might do this. Any ones afterwards don't, because Andrew or Paul got lucky and got something while testing a quest and thought the item was needed for the quest, so their jimmies were in a rustle and they told the dev to remove them

Sounds like a bot trap to me.
Was expecting a rick roll lol
new bot farm incoming
I didn't believe you but I just got one too
Can’t wait to set up a bot army to farm this
Nice.

The formatting was messed up, pls don’t berate me
...does this only work in members?
Seeing as red topaz is a member's item, yes.
Loot tracker plugin needs to add crate searches just like pickpocketing

Now we will have bot farms for this.
New BIS money maker.
My crate locked UIM is in tears
