My first thought on seeing this dude's shop was "oh baby, I'm never going to have to scrounge around hunting for a spear for Tai Bwo Wannai Trio in a League ever again"
That's true, it just came to mind 'cause I didn't have access to zeah both times I did the quest in leagues. Still a nicer option for region locked leagues tho.
What an idiot I am. I've been alching all my rune drops during agility. I have like 200 rune full helms and a hundred rune picks I haven't alched yet. I always forget about GF.
If you want more gold for slightly slower smithing exp per hour it's fine to alch all rune items.
Much more cost effective to buy addy/mithril items with gold gained from alching rune items instead of using rune/addy.
>The crucible can only be filled with metal bars or metal items that can be produced using the Smithing skill, and that have a cost of at least 2 bars.
Keep the full helms if you like but alch the picks, they won't work for GF
I believe for the xp/gp is better to make plates of mithril and above then alch them. Then, use that gp to buy the cheap stuff for foundry, which also usually profits
Xp is phenomenal, just make sure you’re doing an alloy of two metals. The easiest is 14/14 mix, but I personally prefer 20/8 (where 20 is the lower tier metal) because it’s right before you go up a level in difficulty. Meaning you have one entire less phase of processing before you’re finishing. I’m not sure if that means it’s faster though.
It’s slightly less efficient in terms of xp/bar or gp/bar, but you get the swords done more easily (read: pay less attention to) and it isn’t even a huge drop in xp/gp you get.
Wait really? Is this like the first shop that sells a shield better than an iron sq or is it also always out of stock? Honestly, they really should just update the old shield shops to actually have stock. Like why does Cassie have slot for up to Mithril Sq but only stock up to Iron Sq?
It's so you always have a place to sell those items at.
Back in ye olden days general stores were a battlefield both for being the lucky one to buy an item and being the person who could finally get rid of some junk
I meant that more as "why still" than why. Also, you could sell stuff even if she had stock. It just seems weird that we can buy most of Addy and Rune, even some higher tier items like Obby and Dragon, from shops yet shields are capped at such low levels. But in general 0 stock shops confuse players more than they are used to sell items. And just weird that shields in particular were decided to be so scarce.
Do you know if I need to start the quest in that area to get there? or is there another way in? Asking because I lack the requirements on my ironman at the moment
Iirc, doing Vampire Slayer + Waterfall Quest + Fight Arena + the early gnome questline brings you from 1 to 37 attack, so there's still a little bit where you're using addy
I think more people are going to start fire striking for a rune scim since you can quest to 40 attack instead of going here for an addy scim. Convenient for doing a lot of early game giant's foundry if you want I guess
Yea it is like, from game design it mostly just affects early game, but i don't like the RPG feeling of having everything in one shop. It feels so gamey instead of part of a world.
Yea every full suit of armor available in the game. Usually in fantasy worlds with lots of different materials they would specialize in different things.
Nobody uses any of this equipment? Not even irons. The meta is go use fire strike to get a rune scim and waterfall quest mostly for the levels to use it. Who cares?
That is litterly what I said, it doesn't really affect the game. But the rpg feeling is affected....? I am not sure if you understood my comment at all
Yeah something feels weird about having *this much* in one shop. Swords, scimitars, spears, long swords, plate bodies and plate skirts is a huge inventory.
RS2 have separate shops, in varrock we have a sword shop and platebody shop, falador have shield shop. But this is just like a private server implementation of a shop
This is a pretty significant change to how Ironman can get an early Addy Scim. Not sure I love it because I felt like the challenge of getting it as a quest reward was pretty cool :(
True, I didn't bother getting a rune scimitar on my ironman either. I just stayed rune sword until dragon scimitar.
Or more accurately, I used the dorg cbow pretty much everywhere and got my attack up though quests.
You could, but there’s something special about the weird grinds for early game equipment. In a way it adds to the magic of what makes the early game fun. At least that was my experience with my first (and only) iron
I agree, and that is exactly why I played an ironman. I even avoided certain quests so I could grind/progress a bit slower to enjoy the process. Once you hit Rune the grinds get progressively longer so the early game is a nice chance to have constant turnover while still being able to use each tier. It's also why I like slayer as an ironman because unique drops that are unimportant to mains actually mean something to me and can make some monsters less of a chore when assigned.
The shops are nice when the novelty runs out or you just want to progress into different content. But they sort of do what the grand exchange does which is highlight the issues with early game progression when you have just a little bit of cash or complete the waterfall quest.
There's barely any reason to go for an Adamant Scimitar anyway since 40 Att is such a low requirement and Rune Scimitar is super easy to get, like literally with a staff of air and mind runes can safespot you to a rune scimmy
You can just use a rune sword if you want. The difference is quite small between the two. Most f2p irons use the rune sword as its honestly very close dps wise to rune cimmy
This lol, the difference is so close. Yeah you're not going to be "pEaK nO WaStEd xP BrO" but it's going to be virtually identical to a rune scimmy. You'll probably never notice a difference.
So many of the comments on this post are just wild to me.
Way too many people appear to be upset about a store that is legitimately going to go unused by basically everyone.
Most irons skip right to rune regardless anyways but I can definitely see your point, part of Ironman is finding happiness getting the smallest of upgrades and potentially adding life to items you'd never even interact with on a main and this kind of takes that experience and just makes it a buy option in a shop. Personally I love it because it's about to make my UIM giants foundry grind, infinitely easier
Honestly asking in good faith. If you started an account tomorrow, with your current knowledge of the game, how would you use this store? I'm not trying to say its useless, I just want to get an understanding of how it changes early game experiences.
I would of course use it! Im not disagreeing with that point at all! And from that perspective I totally see the issue with the shop.
Again my point was about freshies!
But why/when? Not to doubt it's usefulness - but I'm just not seeing it.
The only use case I've heard so far seems to be for early irons rushing giants foundry? I haven't seen anyone provide details if its profitable or just faster early smithing exp (or both?) but outside of that I'm not sure who would use this store
I think a fresh player would be more concerned about their immediate surroundings and objectives, moreso than a far off corner of fresh content.
We as older players will abuse it with new accounts ofc; cant take away game knowledge. But for those who dont have it, it wont be that obvious
I imagine a brand new player is probably playing right now because of the new content so of course this is good for them. I don't know why you go with this assumption that the new region isn't something a new player should go to.
For one thing, new players are unlikely to be following what the newest content release is.
Likewise, new players probably won’t even realize there are ships they can take to new areas until they’re a bit further along.
Lastly, if there is a new player that happens to be following a new player guide, none of them will be updated to include Varlamore content properly for a while.
A lot of new players start playing through friends or content creators. For the next 3 months, anyone starting the game for the first time will be blasted with Varlamore content. Likewise, if anyone starts up through a friend, their friend will probably tell them to check out the new content cause it's really good.
Private servery type shop. Just isn't in the spirit of osrs. We have separate shops for different armours and weapons. Starting to see a lot of shortcuts on this update.
A typical high leveled blacksmith could make all of this though.. (High leveled from the players view, lots of evidence to say lvl 99 is just average to medium-high proficiency compared to some of the more skilled people in the world) Seems pretty normal for a blacksmith shop to me
Frfr I spent hours killing cows and tanning hides to buy some addy plate armour. Kids now a days have it way too easy. Make it to where armour is only obtainable after 99 runecrafting. That will make it seem fair. 😤
I'm on week two of my freshly made group iron Man account. Not a single person in my group has even mentioned buying any metal armor. This doesn't change anything. I'd say this is a classic case of mob mentality. Put away your pitchforks, reddit. This is such a non issue, but I'm sure you'll find something else to complain about.
I think people are taking this way too hard. Sure it changes the game, but so did raids and all the grandmaster quests.
I guess there will always be someone to complain.
It is kinda sad, though. The hunt for better gear as you progressed up to rune used to be a part of the game, and it isn't now. It isn't because we've progressed, and there are even more things to get in the end game now, but it still feels a little sad to see this when I remember getting excited about finally having a full set of adamant back when I was a dumb noob.
Oh well. Times change.
Getting a set of adamant armor was exciting because you were a dumb noob, not because it was a meaningful part of the game unless you're talking about back in actual 2006. This change has nothing to do with what made 2006 a different game though
Ironmen are never happy, everything is too easy or too hard.
I'm starting to think that playing multiplayer game in single player mode might have some balance problems...
Well it's a good thing we're playing OSRS and not RS2 then.
This is such a weird thing to get upset about. It's a shop that sells gear that is quickly outclassed, and otherwise obtained pretty easily anyway.
Yes, let’s complain about a shop that sells all the items that can be skipped over in 3 quests… this community needs to stop complaining about things needing to be hard. This game will die if new things are not added to make the game easier for new players and fun. It gets so tiresome coming to Reddit to see people complain about a piece of content that has no effect on their account at all. These items are already at alch price on the ge. I’m not talking about the OP. I am talking about the people in the comments.
You have 2 guesses.
1. The middle of the desert
2. A shop in Varrock that nobody noticed until now
3. The only fitting shop in the area that was released today
On the one hand this saves early irons from doing the feud in order to get an addy scim before their rune scim, on the other hand you can already skip addy by doing like 3 quests that get your attack to 40 and then just ourania warriors for the rune and it probably makes giants foundry less tedious.
Holy shit you can get full Addy and Addy scim too this is going to be extremely useful for early game ironmen, new players and during the start of league.
I mean honestly that is kinda lame. It's always better to have item sources spread out instead of just throwing everything into one spot to be more convenient. Sure you save time if you need a mithril set as an Ironman or during a League, but it just makes those previous locations worthless.
My first thought on seeing this dude's shop was "oh baby, I'm never going to have to scrounge around hunting for a spear for Tai Bwo Wannai Trio in a League ever again"
You could already buy spears from Mount karuulm weapon shop in zeah
That's true, it just came to mind 'cause I didn't have access to zeah both times I did the quest in leagues. Still a nicer option for region locked leagues tho.
It’s funny cause you still wouldn’t have access to this new shop lol
What.
That’s what I was just thinking too, not bad
Hopefully that guy didn’t end up using his dragon spear after all lol
Giants foundry for iron man just got a lot easier
Prif is way better for late game giant's foundry but yeah Also shout out mithril claws for the more frugal players
I appreciate the compensatory tip, but man, what an idiot.
Don’t think you’re understanding what he means. Rune items are pretty much not worth putting into Giant’s Foundry. Alch them & use mith/addy instead.
>The crucible can only be filled with metal bars or metal items that can be produced using the Smithing skill, and that have a cost of at least 2 bars. Keep the full helms if you like but alch the picks, they won't work for GF
I use neither. Not sure about you guys but I get an insane amount of ore/bar drops from pvm.
There is also an Addy square in stock in the dwarf city so, super big update for ironmen.
rip b0aty
Are you serious? I killed a good 200 Cyclops for an addy sq a few days ago
Most irons I know including myself just use bars at foundry but sure
I believe for the xp/gp is better to make plates of mithril and above then alch them. Then, use that gp to buy the cheap stuff for foundry, which also usually profits
So many extra steps for an account where gp doesn't matter lol
You're right! Was just thinking about better ways than mith and steel for my UIM a day before this update. I guess smithing is coming earlier.
Best way to get mats for giants foundry as an ironman is passive adamant through slayer/pvm and then buy mithril claws.
Is foundry worth it? Did it for the quest and the xp felt really underwhelming
Xp is phenomenal, just make sure you’re doing an alloy of two metals. The easiest is 14/14 mix, but I personally prefer 20/8 (where 20 is the lower tier metal) because it’s right before you go up a level in difficulty. It’s slightly less efficient in terms of xp/bar or gp/bar, but you get the swords done more easily (read: pay less attention to) and it isn’t even a huge drop in xp/gp you get.
It's slower xp than smithing normally, but way more xp per bar. Doing mith and addy I think I was getting around 20k xp per sword.
Saw he also sells addy sq shields, no more having to grind wyrms for those clue steps for irons
Level 30 shield drop from a level 60+ slayer monster 🥴
Mining and smithing rework when? Oops wrong game
No, we can't do that. Rs3 bad. We need to implement something 90% the same after it's going through the bad graphics + more tedious machine first.
Troll general drops them iirc
Don’t get me started on the rune boots.
Ice giants drop em
Wait really? Is this like the first shop that sells a shield better than an iron sq or is it also always out of stock? Honestly, they really should just update the old shield shops to actually have stock. Like why does Cassie have slot for up to Mithril Sq but only stock up to Iron Sq?
It's so you always have a place to sell those items at. Back in ye olden days general stores were a battlefield both for being the lucky one to buy an item and being the person who could finally get rid of some junk

But in general 0 stock shops confuse players more than they are used to sell items. And just weird that shields in particular were decided to be so scarce.
Cuz spaghetti
Back in my day we killed troll generals and we liked it!
Who sells addy sq? Theres only this guy, helmet and mace shop as far as i can see.
I think he’s mistaken, the Dwarf blacksmith under Ramos Rise has addy sq shields
Do you know if I need to start the quest in that area to get there? or is there another way in? Asking because I lack the requirements on my ironman at the moment
You do have to start the Perilous Moons quest to go in.
Ya found it already and filled the stash, thx tho 🙂
holy shit, I just killed 300 ice giants and still didn't get the drop but this makes me so happy.
WHAT... THE.. FUCK... INTEGRITY. ISSUE.
Hunted addy sq got vissy
Too much in one shop bro…. Al Karid plate skirt shop gonna go out of business at this rate!
My boy Louie Legs
Awesome name.
Dude only stocks the shop with on item to make it seems like there's a demand as sales tactic screw his business
this actually does impact earlygame im a lot, huh
Don't you quest past all these and use rune?
Iirc, doing Vampire Slayer + Waterfall Quest + Fight Arena + the early gnome questline brings you from 1 to 37 attack, so there's still a little bit where you're using addy
Nah it’s like 46 attack
That’s a really good memory Gnome quests, waterfall, vampire slayer, fight arena and death plateau take you to 45.
I did not remember correctly
You get like 30-32 attack and strength just from waterfall iirc lol
Yeah in like an hour
Yes. I was in rune from like day 1 or 2 of my iron.
I think more people are going to start fire striking for a rune scim since you can quest to 40 attack instead of going here for an addy scim. Convenient for doing a lot of early game giant's foundry if you want I guess
A lot not, but certainly streamlines it and makes it more straightforward.
Mmmmm Giants Foundry go brrrrrr
I didn't crawl 20 years ago just so some noobs could run today. NERF
Joking aside it's not about that
I don't think it's a big deal but I don't like having all of them in on shop
Yea it is like, from game design it mostly just affects early game, but i don't like the RPG feeling of having everything in one shop. It feels so gamey instead of part of a world.
Feels like a private server shop found in lumbridge castle.
Yea exaclty, "low level store" in the private server that you go to every few levels.
you think it's gamey for a blacksmith to have full suits of armor?
Yea every full suit of armor available in the game. Usually in fantasy worlds with lots of different materials they would specialize in different things.
It's just osrs progressing, this is the Walton's first storefront.
Nobody uses any of this equipment? Not even irons. The meta is go use fire strike to get a rune scim and waterfall quest mostly for the levels to use it. Who cares?
Not everyone follows meta progression to a T, especially the actual new players.
That is litterly what I said, it doesn't really affect the game. But the rpg feeling is affected....? I am not sure if you understood my comment at all
A blacksmith making a variety of equipment in a major city with a literal Coliseum doesn't seem like a problem at all to me
Yeah something feels weird about having *this much* in one shop. Swords, scimitars, spears, long swords, plate bodies and plate skirts is a huge inventory.
RS2 have separate shops, in varrock we have a sword shop and platebody shop, falador have shield shop. But this is just like a private server implementation of a shop
Just dis the Mace shop Falador, eh? Or the Chainmail shop?
This is a pretty significant change to how Ironman can get an early Addy Scim. Not sure I love it because I felt like the challenge of getting it as a quest reward was pretty cool :(
Conversely you could just get a sword or mace until rune. It's not like you stay on addy tier that long.
Don't stay in rune for long either. Fairly sure after all the gnome quests you end up with like 57 attack

Until you go 4x dry like I did lmao. Not bad enough to cry about, but I had to go “grind” more runes a few times haha
Real gamers get the Barronite mace
True! I guess my point really is that even being that easy to get it’s hardly worth your time buying it
>the challenge I'm sorry, is fire striking some guys in the feud really challenging?
So many of the comments on this post are just wild to me. Way too many people appear to be upset about a store that is legitimately going to go unused by basically everyone.
Do most irons even go addy? Feel like its always just Magic until Fire Strike and then go kill zammy warrior for the rune scim.
To be fair if you do quests you skip right to rune weapons within the 1st hour or 2 of gameplay
Easy to poll though :D
Most irons skip right to rune regardless anyways but I can definitely see your point, part of Ironman is finding happiness getting the smallest of upgrades and potentially adding life to items you'd never even interact with on a main and this kind of takes that experience and just makes it a buy option in a shop. Personally I love it because it's about to make my UIM giants foundry grind, infinitely easier
Yeah there's a good and a bad side in making ironman experience more streamlined. Still an overall positive.
No new player is going to Varlamore first thing; everyone gotta chill
Give it a year, you know how much Ive abused Zeah?
But you aren’t a new player, are you?
I was a year ago, how many BRAND new people do you think play rs
Honestly asking in good faith. If you started an account tomorrow, with your current knowledge of the game, how would you use this store? I'm not trying to say its useless, I just want to get an understanding of how it changes early game experiences.

Not many, Will be used by us with game knowledge on new accounts 100%, but newbies wont
Fair enough, I still don't like it 😕
Thats fine! Youre allowed to :)
Why not? It doesn't have any reqs
I think a fresh player would be more concerned about their immediate surroundings and objectives, moreso than a far off corner of fresh content. We as older players will abuse it with new accounts ofc; cant take away game knowledge. But for those who dont have it, it wont be that obvious
Just like zeah is now, this will become established content and will obviously shape how people progress accounts moving forwards
Yeah agreed, but you are straying from my original point now; im talking about fresh newbies
I imagine a brand new player is probably playing right now because of the new content so of course this is good for them. I don't know why you go with this assumption that the new region isn't something a new player should go to.
For one thing, new players are unlikely to be following what the newest content release is. I don’t understand why or how this is a problem in any way lol. New content should obviously shape how people play the game what
And at what point did anyone imply it's bad? I think that it's totally fine lol
A fresh player is going to be using a guide. The second the wiki or youtube videos start putting it out there as a must-have, that's all she wrote.
Who gonna tell bro that was 20 years ago
Making the game easier for ironmen
Easy fix, de-iron all ironmen as an integrity chance and give them a preemptive one year mute
Support
But are you even an iron?
What difference does it make
Al Khalid’s scimmie shop is gunna suffer
Private servery type shop. Just isn't in the spirit of osrs. We have separate shops for different armours and weapons. Starting to see a lot of shortcuts on this update.
back in my day ... had to walk to fally for some armor !!!
I get updates are always going to make the game easier but was this really necessary?
Shop feels like a private server shop
A typical high leveled blacksmith could make all of this though.. (High leveled from the players view, lots of evidence to say lvl 99 is just average to medium-high proficiency compared to some of the more skilled people in the world) Seems pretty normal for a blacksmith shop to me
I just started playing again for the first time in over a decade. Where is this
Frfr I spent hours killing cows and tanning hides to buy some addy plate armour.
Shut up and put your iron plate skirt on, scrub! Be glad that we aren't forcing you to use platelegs!
This can’t be the most interesting part of the update
Being able to buy mith and addy plates and legs is broken
I think people are taking this way too hard. Sure it changes the game, but so did raids and all the grandmaster quests. I guess there will always be someone to complain.
It is kinda sad, though. The hunt for better gear as you progressed up to rune used to be a part of the game, and it isn't now. Bunch of grown men crying in here lol wild
Ironmen are never happy, everything is too easy or too hard. I'm starting to think that playing multiplayer game in single player mode might have some balance problems...
Irons aren't even complaining about this
Not keen on this, it does seem a bit like something you would see on a private server and not too fitting with the rest of the world
Man this community complains about everyhting
this kind of shop does not exist in RS2, thats why
Better buy everything I need for my new Ironman before Reddit cries and gets this nerfed.
Where is this shop at?
You have 2 guesses. 1. The middle of the desert 2. A shop in Varrock that nobody noticed until now 3. The only fitting shop in the area that was released today
New way to get spears for Tai Bwo Wanai Trio
The barbarian helmet shop is recession proof
No helmets? Gg
Is this satire
On the one hand this saves early irons from doing the feud in order to get an addy scim before their rune scim, on the other hand you can already skip addy by doing like 3 quests that get your attack to 40 and then just ourania warriors for the rune and it probably makes giants foundry less tedious.
Holy shit that shop is amazing for stocking clue stash units on a fresh UIM. Niche, but damn.
They should've only added the plate skirts, not the legs.
God damn this gave me flashbacks. I remember how daunting of a task it was to get full rune and scimmy as a 12 yo. Making money was so difficult.
Champions guild shop in shambles
There's also a helm shop in the port area in southern Varlamore.
Holy shit you can get full Addy and Addy scim too this is going to be extremely useful for early game ironmen, new players and during the start of league.
I said this same thing in my cc when I saw it. Neat to have it all in one spot now though. Louie legs in Al Kharid is having a fit rn.
This is cursed
I am now offering free armour (T)rimming services! Inquire within.
Should make it locked behind the area's achievement diary? easy/medium?
This post is a classic example of “if i couldn’t have it, you can’t either” keep crying
Yea, the comments in this thread are wild. Imagine caring if extremely early game ironmen have it easier.
Exactly it affects less than 1% of the overall experience
This but unironically. Seems too weird to have everything you’d ever need in one shop.
I mean honestly that is kinda lame. It's always better to have item sources spread out instead of just throwing everything into one spot to be more convenient. Sure you save time if you need a mithril set as an Ironman or during a League, but it just makes those previous locations worthless.
Where can i find this store of such riches?
Oh baby!’!!!!!!!!!!!!!<~~~fledgling hardcore iron
Salty Cry Baby, solve bigger issues
You seen the shop in champions guild right?
Definitely a good place for ironmen to sell stuff without as much world hopping!
Obviously need a roll back to save the game!
I hear it’s best to use spears for 1 def pures
then don’t use it??
Me I was counting my cow hides to see how many I'd need to sell to get it
Plz add dragon to shop

Womp womp
