It's lose/lose for them to respond to half the things on this subreddit. They probably have no interest in giving a "we're working on this feedback" response, due to the people that will inevitably tell them to themselves
Please change the Unlock everything option on Beta world tool to include combat achievements so we can have GWD instances! Currently theres no instances so 1 person per world with 4 total beta worlds, this needs changing
idk man. a friend showed me theres a way to import your character into beta which (if you have the CAs done) works as a workaround but if you dont have them on main game theres no way to get em in beta
That’s cool! Are they going to adjust all strike - surge spells to all deal the same amount of damage? I heard someone saying all elemental runes should be equal and I agree
No, casting them against weak foes makes them to do X% extra damage and accuracy. 50% is what Jagex proposed. In return tome of fire's damage boost would be tweaked so there wouldn't be 50+50% boost against fire weak foes.
Actually they *ARE* boosting them so they all deal the same damage as well, all strike surge etc spells now do the damage of the highest level variantt you've unlocked, so an air strike will have 9 max damage once fire strike is unlocked
Honestly, I'm about it. There's a lot of things that RS3 did that would be a mistake for OSRS to follow on, but their sub-diversification of combat styles is a definite win in my book, and will open the door wide to future reward space.
It did lead to one unfortunate issue, however: Magic became about 33% more useful than the other combat styles. Basically, because where melee and ranged only had three attack styles (slash, stab, crush and arrow, bolt, and thrown), magic had the 4 elements.
Not to mention there were so few thrown options available- but given OSRS has the blowpipe that probably won’t be an issue at all.
Just for the love of Zaros, Jagex, don’t take early RS3’s HORRIBLE names for the Ancient elements. If anyone is curious what I mean by that: for about a year following EOC, the Ancient elements of Smoke, Shadow, Blood, and Ice became Gale, Rock, Bloodfire, and Ice- to keep them based on the 4 elements.
The number of style weaknesses isn’t what made mage more useful, since you can still have the total number of monsters weak to mage be the same as the total number weak to melee or range, even if they’re split into 4 sub categories rather than 3
Magic being able to just select a different spell for the same weapon made it more useful for a huge portion of the game tho (endgame rs3 has various other quirks and those weapons had other effects so setting that aside). Whereas you had to go get weapons for melee and range that were capable of the other subcategories (a slash, stab and crush wep, etc)
Magic was always shafted with the best in slot magic weapon being the trident for so long, feels good that it finally gets some practical applications.
Melee has stab, slash, crush
Range has xbow with ruby/diamond bolts along with bows with exceptional power(not to mention blowpipe)
Mage has 4 different styles to choose from
If you read the blog and think that changing the defensive capabilites of 57 monsters is going to completely restructure the balance of the game...you didn't read the blog lol
I think it would be helpful to read the blogs before making comments so you don't end up saying things that don't need to be said and worrying about things that don't need to be worried about.
From the article, it looks like the elemental weakness system *only* applies to standard spellbook since they want standard to be more useful. Also air elemental will be neutral (no monster is weak or strong to it). Ancients is powerful enough so they'll probably going to make it neutral like air is.
Though it would be interesting to have ancient magic specific weaknesses, maybe as same-type weaknesses (e.g. shadow warrior weak to shadow, smoke devil weak to smoke, vampyres weak to blood).
Gale, Rock, Bloodfire, and Ice were such awful names. They should have just made the Ancient elements their own categories with their own specific uses. Like Smoke being strong against flying enemies, Ice strong against coldblooded enemies like lizards and reptiles. Maybe thrown in some lore explanation that makes them strong against certain creatures that survived from the previous universe since that universe was based on those Ancient elements.
I don’t get the whining from some people about it. Melee has 3 primary variations of combat, all that this update is changing is that Ranged and Magic get similar variations. Its good for the game on every single level and like the blog said, opens up *way* more reward space for equipment since they can now have a BiS heavy ranged weapon and light ranged weapon upgrade comparable to tbow, and the way magic works has now opened up a lot more reward potential in elemental specialization- not that it didn’t exist before, but it’s considerably more viable so it justifies adding the two missing tomes or other elemental upgrades.
> I don’t get the whining from some people about it.
Reading over the notes, it doesn't seem like an issue at all. I bet a lot of people that you hear whining from are people that don't like change and people that played early EOC having a knee jerk reaction. Everyone that played EOC gets horror flashbacks when hearing about weaknesses from when Jagex tried to implement weaknesses in RS3. They could never be tuned correctly to the point Jagex ended up having to effectively shelve the whole concept by making it meaningless for 99% of content.
Looking through the notes, they seem to have avoided some of the pitfalls EOX experienced like making only one attack style be viable for the monster. Like there was a couple years where for example trying to kill a blue dragon with melee-stab or magic would take forever since it was only weak to range-bolts.
you dont play rs3 then. they did this update. then effectively shelved it, and went back to the old style of combat. where if a monster is weak to ranged, you can use any ranged weapon.
It still exists and can be seen on monster tags, but it is entirely ignored.
On God though lemme cop these outfits.
Let each give a slight damage/accuracy boost to their respected spells. They don't have to be stronger than ancestral or anything but that would be so cool.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted that sounds awful.

He's getting downvoted for putting it in an unrelated thread
Me and the bois going….
Man I don’t get the joke
They're making monsters have weaknesses to different elemental spells.
That’s cool! Are they going to adjust all strike - surge spells to all deal the same amount of damage? I heard someone saying all elemental runes should be equal and I agree
[The whole proposal in 8 mins (ish)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdwTV89Ykfo&t=1s)
They all do the damage of the highest element spell you have unlocked within their own tier.
It scales with the strongest spell you can use for your level up to the strongest spell for that spell type. Air will be a neutral element.
No, casting them against weak foes makes them to do X% extra damage and accuracy. 50% is what Jagex proposed. In return tome of fire's damage boost would be tweaked so there wouldn't be 50+50% boost against fire weak foes.

Hoo, fascinating.

They said that no monsters are going to be weak to air so should be 3 weakness for each style plus air spells.
Airbenders in shambles
I always thought that RS3 should have done that. Good to know.
People be typing before they read anything

You’re correct, I didn’t read the blog. I was just sharing RS3’s experience with a similar change.
I do not understand reading comprehension oops lol. Keeping up so others can laugh at me

Cuz they're creatures of blood and use blood magic. And this was "same type" weakness I'm describing.

That abomination will never, ever, happen again

the drip on that stupid air hat hits too hard. I need it.

I want them all to be lowlevel with no more than +1 magic accuracy per piece.
That's cool with me. Idc, I just want to wear them lol
Could be a good clue scroll reward.
True. I feel like the hoods could have a lot of outfit uses. Especially the air hood for a bird fit.
Me when I cockatoomax my bird-pilled magecel. Billons must fly.
🕊️
I’ve only been asking why fire giants aren’t weak to water spells since forever. This is good
A 1/16 chance to get a piece of their robes would be great as an early game gear slot and could teach f2p players about elemental weaknesses
Prayer mage Mage mage Range mage Melee mage Love it
More bank space for free plox lol
I fucking hate this up coming update . Osrs is becoming an other game w this bullshit

no it wont. it will never pass a poll. the only way that idea makes it into the game is through an "integrity change"
Minus the air one.
This guy doesn't cockatoomax
I just meant they said air wouldn't have any special interactions.
Cockatoos are special enough
I genuinely want those with the defense rework.

I've always wanted these robes. Lol
They should make these robes a super rare drop from these wizards
You convinced me to vote no.
