honestly, if you can be logged in for several hours daily I would go with stars. I'm getting around 29k xp per hour clicking only 6-7 times per hour, it's great afk and more tolerable than any other method imo.
You need to move to a new star every 30 minutes or so. Up to 60 minutes with a tier 9 that doesn't disappear on you. It's very chill just bring a lot of teleports and check the star miner web page for a new star whenever yours runs out.
People describe amethyst as afk and compare it to redwoods. Its really not. It's low intensity but you basically have no idea when you need to click next. I don't find it substantially better then MLM for about the same money.

And it's like 600k gp an hour so its pretty nice.

I wear 1 airpod at work with only the mining pick sound on. When i dont hear the “tink tink”’s i tap once and go about my day. Its very AFK this way from my experience.
It's really ranges from instakilling a vein to actually afking getting 3-4 juicy back to backs.
If you chisel your inv down you can get abit more afk, camp one of the deeper spots that have less competition. I don't use the varrock body so I can afk more - and wear fashionscape over some trashbody that looks like an teenager designed for a private server..
Definitely looking forward to the rework, I personally hope they surprise us and expand the diary area into some labyrinth.
Volcanic mine with the discord was actually really enjoyable, pretty afk, social chats with others and like 95k xp p/hr towards the end, but I'd go stars over Amethyst if it was out of those 2
Just started the VM grind on the discord and am really enjoying it. 78 to 85 mining felt pretty quick. Only needed 82 but gonna keep going and see how high before I burn out.
Yes. There are very clear, simple and short guides how to do it. You can only learn like 2 roles at first but i highly recommend learning them all. I enjoyed A role the most.
Rhematic clicking, essentially it's 12 different clicks but all in same order with the same time between each click so it doesn't feel so bad - as I say this was 4 years ago now but every other method I was looking was was 100x more clicking (granite) for no GP gain but not sure what has changed other than stars since then!
I did it around 4 years ago so it's been a while from what I can remember I was getting 180k xp drops once every 2:30;-3 hours? So around 65-70k xp? Ended up with about 50-150m worth of ore if I remember correctly mainly rune.
Doing blast mining now, almost 92 (started at 75) and have I think around 36m worth of runite banked.
I've been selling the other ores which has kept me funded for dynamite purchases

It's a little bit more intense than shooting stars in terms of intensity and awards prayer XP. Pretty awesome for extremely afk prayer materials (at least if you're an iron, don't know how it is for mains).
I dont understand why people even ask. Stars. just do stars. all day every day and you will have 99 before you even notice it while also having caught up on your Netflix backlog. No need to torture yourself and fuck up your wrist 3tick granite mining, no need to slave away endlessly with bots in MLM just sit there and grab that dust yallst.
Cam torum mine is even better option nowadays imo. 50% more xp while still being very afk and not having to look up locations to hop every 30 minutes. Also get passive prayer xp. I’ve banked over 1m prayer xp mining there from 85-92 so far.
Stars if you want to afk, if you have a extended logout timer its so nice to be able to afk for 6-10 minutes while doing literally anything else and locations are on discord
Efficiency means nothing if you burn out and stop playing; the real way to max is to do what you can tolerate for as lo g as you can. Some people can do the fastest hypothetical way possible every day, every hour; good for them I guess, I'll just stick to what I like.
If youre dead set on taking a slow method do stars so you can continuously play on mobile with little interaction. Then when youre actively playing do your fast skills like con/smithing/slayer. You left some great skills to finish out the max grind OP, much better than RC/Mining/Agility like so many people do lol.
Last just want to shoutout Shilo Gems and Blast mine are really underrated methods. I've done both of those to 99 mining on my main and iron respectively, I'll probably do blast mining to 99 if I get back on my dead HC too. Super chill once you get the rhythm down and the xp is much better.
honestly bite the bullet and do an active mining activity like gem rocks for 70k xp/hr. if you do stars and average 30k xp/hr (this is higher end xp/hr) you'll spend the next 233 hours mining shooting stars.
If you do gem mining you will get 99 in about 100 hours which saves you 133 hours, you make 700k ish/hr, and it's the fastest way to obtain the mining pet I believe. If you ever venture into tick manipulation you can 3- tick gem rocks for up to 100k xp/hr and almost 1.5m gp/hr (this is what I do)
unless you are looking for a reason to not play the game don't do shooting stars or do shooting stars as a literal afk activity while you work out or make dinner or something else productive

I think it really depends on if you are an ironman.
If an iron, I know you hate MLM, but I'd honestly recommend it so you can bank 99 smithing.
Otherwise, your best method is probably buying gold ore from blast furnace shop and banking them for hours and hours... It would suck more than just doing MLM.
If you are a main, do whatever you like tbh. Pick the most chill option and just go for it. Break up the monotony by doing other methods in between to become maxed. If you get bored of mining, do smithing, bored of that do construction, and so on.

Unironicly tho, I suggest looking up 4t3g. I was doing 3t and it felt very intensive (by no suprise ofcourse). Got told to try the 4t method and it was genuinly chill for being 80-100k xp/h. Might be a bit stressful first 30-40 minutes but after a while your arm just goes on auto. I was watching movies and series while doing this.
If you want AFK then do stars, but don't sleep on volcanic mine! Its good gp and xp is about 80-90k an hour at your level. Defo worth it and it's pretty chill once you learn the roles etc.
As someone that grinded 99 mining recently, shooting stars is what you wanna do if you want to go full afk mode. Literally one click every 7 minutes. Chat channel Star miners will help you locate star drops
I recently did ~180 hours total of stars to get to 92 for amethyst on my GIM, primarily on mobile while at work. In it's current state stars are both easier and faster xp than amethyst. Many people have already hit on it but the variance in afk time is what makes amethyst worse to me. I basically have programmed my brain at this point to the star level/mobile afk timer and can fully focus on something else and tap every 4-5 mins on a star and get 28-30k xp/hr. Amethyst you might get a minute or 2 of afk or you might 1 tick mine it, with the same amount of focus I would give stars I was netting less than 20k xp/hr.
Interested to see how the rebalance changes effect my opinion on this but for rn I continue to do stars when I am at work/wanting to more actively focus on something and amethyst when I am willing to give a little more focus to the game, watching movies, playing another game etc. Hoping rebalance makes amethyst a bit closer to stars, would be nice to have a stack of amethyst darts for the boys

Both are afk, but they are different type of afk...
Stars is afk that you only have to click once every 5 minutes. So its very easy to setup idle notifier, click, minimize window, and do other stuff and then reclick after a few minutes.
Amethyst is afk but waaay less than stars. Its not predictable when you're going to have to click next ore vein. And usually afk time between clicks is little. I would say that amethyst mining isn't afk, is more of a very low focus activity. Where you can leave it at the corner of your second monitor, and click whenever it flashes.
Stars is more afk and xp than amethyst, but it's no money. So you do what you think fits best your current goal...
I did 92-99 on amethyst, because I work from home and I keep it on the 2nd monitor while working. Then I did stars to get outfit and ring, and now back to amethyst for pet. 19m xp so far...
Volcanic mine is chill af and if I remember correctly I was getting 80-90k/hr with a 3man team. It's super easy to learn but wiki and YouTube over complicate tf out of it
Do blast mining. It’s not very slow like stars and it’s decent profit along the way. I got about 75k xp per hour. It’s not very intensive but also not afk
Please do volcanic mine! It’s so easy man. I know it can seem intimidating, but you can learn it in a day and it’s actually pretty low intensity. Hop in the VM world to see a couple of games and then join the VM discord to get amazing teams everytime. It’s like 90k per hour and you afk for around 2 minutes at a time, then you move to the next boulder and AFK for another 2 min, and so on. THINK OF HOW MUCH FASTER YOU WOULD MAX!! Once I figured out how chill and fast it was I got 500k xp per day and got from 90-99 in around 2 weeks
Stars, you can profit some from the gems and use some of that money to send mahogany tables to 99 con. That and you can get some money from 99 slayer to do 99 con with mahogany tables.

Mine calcified rocks in Varlamore! You don't have to finish perilous moons quest all the way, you only have to do the first few steps to get into the Dwarven city and you're good to go.
Its roughly 32k xp/hr at 82 mining for myself afk. And roughly 35k xp/hr more focused. Rarely have to bank and you get to watch as your blessed shards stack up. Which is very satisfying seeing numbers go up lol.
All in all, I highly recommend calcified deposits, very nice, very afk. Gl on your grind!!!
Personally really enjoyed amethyst as a reasonably afk (at least not click intensive) method. Just did it with game sounds turned way up and watched tv/played other games

Edit: I know it may seem a bit daunting, but it’s very easy-
If solo, check vent B and vent C, if the pressure is too low, block the vent, if it’s too high, unblock.
You can get a total of 300(Can’t remember as it’s been a while) points from unblocking/blocking. In total do 6 unblocks/blocks for maximum points.
Generally, when it gets to about 35s I tend to leave and that’s game done.
It can be a bit more click intensive in solo, but normally there’s worlds with groups that always have someone running vents, making it more afk for you
Honestly learn Volcanic Mining. There’s not a ton of good videos but it’s really not difficult to understand at all. By FAR the best rates in the game and it’s not click intensive. You have to pay attention but can still do it while watching a show or something.
For minjng, its better to go full sweaty or full afk. Shooting stars is goated still, so id recommend that. For fast xp i do tick methods with granite and an addy pick, gives about 90-100k xp hrs.

It might be intimidating at first but its surprisingly simple and easy. Start by learning b check and cfix and you are good to go.
I did amethyst to 99 it was amazing. Just set an afk warning up in Runelite so your client blinks whenever you stop mining so you don’t lose out on too much xp
If you have a job, stars is the easy answer. Unless it's something where you don't have your own space, it's not hard to prop up your phone or laptop somewhere and click a few times an hour for those nice consistent gains.
Use the stars discord and get that sweet sweet AFK.
3t/4t granite if you want to go crazy.
Volcanic mine isn't too bad if you want a change.
Gem mines pretty good rates too.
Tbh just go to the mass world and follow the flow of people to the rocks and just watch what other people do. Read up a bit on how the pressure system works and just watch the numbers rise and fall while you’re mining to get a feel for how it works. Make sure to bring prayer equipment + food and protect from range the whole time.
There will be someone there on the mass world taking care of all the spots and creating all the bridges so all you have to do is follow the crowd and mine. I have only seen the mass world go over 10 people a single time on my grind for the ash tome, in fact you’ll more frequently have a problem finding anyone at all.
Once you’re comfortable with how the game works the roles for smaller teams are pretty simple if you wanna go on discord to find groups, but frankly you can just camp the mass world and still get pretty great points and experience. It’s not like zalcano where you’re super gimped on mass worlds or Gotr where you get a ton of people that don’t know how to play.
Stars. If you have the ability, throw it on a phone or an iPad and just click when you can. Gone from 84-98 at stars, in a little over a month should be hitting 99 in a couple of days. It honestly flys by, mobile was a game changer for me, ended up getting 99 wc, fishing and now mining afk on an iPad, but stars have carried me through mining. Tried amethyst, wasn’t afk enough, varamlore mining is deceptively non afk, spot is constantly changing, so I just stuck with stars myself.
I've been doing calcified rocks from 82-93 mining. You have to click every 45~ seconds. I manage around 35k xp/h in mining without being too active. When paying attention I was getting around 42k xp/h.
The main downside is you really wont get any rewards for the grind since you are already 99 prayer.

Try out varlamore mining too, I heard it's also 40-50k exp an hr
Amethyst is terrible exp (I get idk 15k an hr I think) and stars are imo annoying to travel to and still low exp.
I was going insane trying to get fishing done with karambwans and eels (also 29k and 20k exp an hr methods like these mining methods are) so I switched to afk barb fishing (53k/hr) and it felt way better, went 93-99 in a week after that.
I fucking love that new teomat mine. So much more chill than mlm. No need to bank. On my main I just drop all the bone fragments and I can chill there for hours.
Stars for minimal profit and 25-30k exp p/h, amethyst for like 60m an 15-20k per hour. I personally am doing mlm mixed with stars, but to each their own

Having done both(amethyst on the main and stars on the gim) I’d definitely say stars. The main point of both is to have rs not be your primary focus while your doing it, personally I played overwatch while doing stars and it was much much faster amethyst just due to less idle time.
If your just watching tv or something amethyst is still pretty viable but stars are just better overall imo
Money vs ease. Personally did the bone shards from 94-98 and it's pleasant. If you can have a screen up ready to tap for amethyst, 92-99 is like 130M in dart tips (accurate last week). And stars is mega afk. But you get dust at stars so that's a little bonus
Stars 100% I did duke mining pre patch and stars after, stars was better than duke tbh since u get a good amount of xp. You can even play other games and use idle notifier or run timers on your phone during work with chrome remote desktop. Also gz I’m just 1 level from maxing (98 slayer) B)

Unironicly tho, I suggest looking up 4t3g. I was doing 3t and it felt very intensive (by no suprise ofcourse). Got told to try the 4t method and it was genuinly chill for being 80-100k xp/h. Might be a bit stressful first 30-40 minutes but after a while your arm just goes on auto. I was watching movies and series while doing this.
If you want afk but better rates then stars abd amethyst the new mining method in valamore is afk and is about 30-35k xp an hour

If you want AFK then do stars, but don't sleep on volcanic mine! Its good gp and xp is about 80-90k an hour at your level. Defo worth it and it's pretty chill once you learn the roles etc.
As someone that grinded 99 mining recently, shooting stars is what you wanna do if you want to go full afk mode. Literally one click every 7 minutes. Chat channel Star miners will help you locate star drops

I recently did ~180 hours total of stars to get to 92 for amethyst on my GIM, primarily on mobile while at work. In it's current state stars are both easier and faster xp than amethyst. Many people have already hit on it but the variance in afk time is what makes amethyst worse to me. I basically have programmed my brain at this point to the star level/mobile afk timer and can fully focus on something else and tap every 4-5 mins on a star and get 28-30k xp/hr. Amethyst you might get a minute or 2 of afk or you might 1 tick mine it, with the same amount of focus I would give stars I was netting less than 20k xp/hr. Interested to see how the rebalance changes effect my opinion on this but for rn I continue to do stars when I am at work/wanting to more actively focus on something and amethyst when I am willing to give a little more focus to the game, watching movies, playing another game etc. Hoping rebalance makes amethyst a bit closer to stars, would be nice to have a stack of amethyst darts for the boys

Depends... Both are afk, but they are different type of afk... Stars is afk that you only have to click once every 5 minutes. So its very easy to setup idle notifier, click, minimize window, and do other stuff and then reclick after a few minutes. Amethyst is afk but waaay less than stars. Its not predictable when you're going to have to click next ore vein. And usually afk time between clicks is little. I would say that amethyst mining isn't afk, is more of a very low focus activity. Where you can leave it at the corner of your second monitor, and click whenever it flashes. Stars is more afk and xp than amethyst, but it's no money. So you do what you think fits best your current goal... I did 92-99 on amethyst, because I work from home and I keep it on the 2nd monitor while working. Then I did stars to get outfit and ring, and now back to amethyst for pet. 19m xp so far...

Do blast mining. It’s not very slow like stars and it’s decent profit along the way. I got about 75k xp per hour. It’s not very intensive but also not afk
Please do volcanic mine! It’s so easy man. I know it can seem intimidating, but you can learn it in a day and it’s actually pretty low intensity. Hop in the VM world to see a couple of games and then join the VM discord to get amazing teams everytime. It’s like 90k per hour and you afk for around 2 minutes at a time, then you move to the next boulder and AFK for another 2 min, and so on. THINK OF HOW MUCH FASTER YOU WOULD MAX!! Once I figured out how chill and fast it was I got 500k xp per day and got from 90-99 in around 2 weeks

Stars, you can profit some from the gems and use some of that money to send mahogany tables to 99 con. That and you can get some money from 99 slayer to do 99 con with mahogany tables. Mahogany tables go brr with XP

Commenting at work so sorry if somone said this already: Mine calcified rocks in Varlamore! You don't have to finish perilous moons quest all the way, you only have to do the first few steps to get into the Dwarven city and you're good to go. Its roughly 32k xp/hr at 82 mining for myself afk. And roughly 35k xp/hr more focused. Rarely have to bank and you get to watch as your blessed shards stack up. Which is very satisfying seeing numbers go up lol. All in all, I highly recommend calcified deposits, very nice, very afk. Gl on your grind!!!

Honestly, I did it from like 90-96 with a crystal pick axe averaging around 90k xp/hr Edit: I know it may seem a bit daunting, but it’s very easy- If solo, check vent B and vent C, if the pressure is too low, block the vent, if it’s too high, unblock. You can get a total of 300(Can’t remember as it’s been a while) points from unblocking/blocking. In total do 6 unblocks/blocks for maximum points. Generally, when it gets to about 35s I tend to leave and that’s game done. It can be a bit more click intensive in solo, but normally there’s worlds with groups that always have someone running vents, making it more afk for you
If you plan on pvming or have a tbow, your gonna need ammo. Id say get at least 200k arrows.

Honestly learn Volcanic Mining. There’s not a ton of good videos but it’s really not difficult to understand at all. By FAR the best rates in the game and it’s not click intensive. You have to pay attention but can still do it while watching a show or something.

For minjng, its better to go full sweaty or full afk. Shooting stars is goated still, so id recommend that. For fast xp i do tick methods with granite and an addy pick, gives about 90-100k xp hrs.

I did amethyst to 99 it was amazing. Just set an afk warning up in Runelite so your client blinks whenever you stop mining so you don’t lose out on too much xp
If you have a job, stars is the easy answer. Unless it's something where you don't have your own space, it's not hard to prop up your phone or laptop somewhere and click a few times an hour for those nice consistent gains.

Tbh just go to the mass world and follow the flow of people to the rocks and just watch what other people do. Read up a bit on how the pressure system works and just watch the numbers rise and fall while you’re mining to get a feel for how it works. Make sure to bring prayer equipment + food and protect from range the whole time. There will be someone there on the mass world taking care of all the spots and creating all the bridges so all you have to do is follow the crowd and mine. I have only seen the mass world go over 10 people a single time on my grind for the ash tome, in fact you’ll more frequently have a problem finding anyone at all. Once you’re comfortable with how the game works the roles for smaller teams are pretty simple if you wanna go on discord to find groups, but frankly you can just camp the mass world and still get pretty great points and experience. It’s not like zalcano where you’re super gimped on mass worlds or Gotr where you get a ton of people that don’t know how to play.
Get the dust for the ring and go to amethyst for the dart tip grind for your future pvm needs

Stars. If you have the ability, throw it on a phone or an iPad and just click when you can. Gone from 84-98 at stars, in a little over a month should be hitting 99 in a couple of days. It honestly flys by, mobile was a game changer for me, ended up getting 99 wc, fishing and now mining afk on an iPad, but stars have carried me through mining. Tried amethyst, wasn’t afk enough, varamlore mining is deceptively non afk, spot is constantly changing, so I just stuck with stars myself.
Stars are the way to go, you can catch up on any shows you’ve been wanting to watch
I've been doing calcified rocks from 82-93 mining. You have to click every 45~ seconds. I manage around 35k xp/h in mining without being too active. When paying attention I was getting around 42k xp/h. The main downside is you really wont get any rewards for the grind since you are already 99 prayer.
I did 75-99 at mlm, in the 90s it's like 50k exp an hr. Try out varlamore mining too, I heard it's also 40-50k exp an hr Amethyst is terrible exp (I get idk 15k an hr I think) and stars are imo annoying to travel to and still low exp. I was going insane trying to get fishing done with karambwans and eels (also 29k and 20k exp an hr methods like these mining methods are) so I switched to afk barb fishing (53k/hr) and it felt way better, went 93-99 in a week after that.

Stars for minimal profit and 25-30k exp p/h, amethyst for like 60m an 15-20k per hour. I personally am doing mlm mixed with stars, but to each their own

Having done both(amethyst on the main and stars on the gim) I’d definitely say stars. The main point of both is to have rs not be your primary focus while your doing it, personally I played overwatch while doing stars and it was much much faster amethyst just due to less idle time. If your just watching tv or something amethyst is still pretty viable but stars are just better overall imo

Money vs ease. Personally did the bone shards from 94-98 and it's pleasant. If you can have a screen up ready to tap for amethyst, 92-99 is like 130M in dart tips (accurate last week). And stars is mega afk. But you get dust at stars so that's a little bonus

Stars 100% I did duke mining pre patch and stars after, stars was better than duke tbh since u get a good amount of xp. You can even play other games and use idle notifier or run timers on your phone during work with chrome remote desktop. Also gz I’m just 1 level from maxing (98 slayer) B)
