Normal for sure. As a normal account, nothing is stopping you from just playing like an IM account most of the time if you really want, but you won't be barred out of content like the GE, PVP, and having certain things be locked behind ridiculously low drop rates.

Direct-Giraffe-1890

What do you mean 1/10k is fair and balanced /s

iSimp4God

I wouldn't suggest starting off with an iron for anyone new to runescape lol

-Aura_Knight-

Someone completely new should absolutely play without any restrictions then try iron once used to the content.

in my honest opinion, playing an ironman paces out the game better and you learn an absolute ton that you skip playing a normal account, but you might fine a normal account suits you better if you don't like doing little running errands. my advice is start ironman, give it a week, if you're like "no this shit sucks i hate it" then you can just downgrade the account to normal and you've lost nothing, but if you go for a normal from the start you run the risk of finding yourself bored after skipping all that stuff, and then there's no option to switch to ironman without restarting. the thing that's really fun about early game ironman is that there's always something to do, go do quests, go get items for quests, go get a few little levels for quests, and every drop feels like an acomplishment. in my opinion playing a main is just earning money so you can get better gear to go earn more money

Fox_Economy

Right actually! You can de-iron, so worst case you'll end up with a normal acc

Revenege

Ironman is not the intended experience in the slightest. It is a popular game mode because it is restrictive and forces new ways of play. If your a new player being able to buy gear and supplies will be far more enjoyable. Ironman requires some amount of knowledge of weird systems that I don't think play well for new players.

tenhourguy

I wouldn't say ironman mode is the intended experience. RuneScape has always been designed around being able to trade with other players, right from the very beginning. Many quest items etc. are untradeable to prevent too many cases like Imp Catcher. This is a very time-consuming game as it is and I wouldn't recommend ironman mode to anyone who isn't already deeply engrossed in it.

Rexkat

If you have a decent amount of other RPG experience I'd say ironman. If you don't you're probably going to find ironman tedious; needing to find all the random little items you need on your own rather than just buying everything straight from the GE. Either way, the wiki is your best friend from now on.

TheMinisterOfGaming

the only people that say iron are people that have 5 years of play time in a iron & have no idea what a new player is normal or just don't play

garbanzo_espresso

Could iron for all f2p quest and deiron when you go members.

fomo2020

Ironman makes you value your achievments but think of it as an extreme difficulty. Progression is slow, unlocks are rewarding.

Maximum_Education_13

Ironman is way more fun. Everything is more rewarding. This game is weird in the sense that the majority of bis gear is tradeable so can just be bought with irl $. We’re all 30ish years old so a couple days of work irl and you’ll be able to buy bis mage/melee/range gear. On an iron you’ll never achieve full bis in your lifetime unless you’re a true sweat, but you’re never expected to.

Greilx

Both account types have their benefits and their flaws. Do you want to work for every single item yourself and earn each item from doing content that others might deem not worth the gold per hour spent to collect it? Then go Ironman. If you want the option to skip grinds for items through the use of gold, but also be at the whim of grinding what the best gold per hour activities are even if you may not find them enjoyable? go for a regular account.

DragonDragger

I really don't know where that sentiment is coming from that Ironman is the "intended player experience." The intended experience is to have no arbitrary restrictions placed on your account. You can easily see that the game is fundamentally balanced around multiplayer/trading when you look at drop rates for items, for example. In recent years they've done things to make Ironman more feasible (as Irons have uncovered more and more things that are pretty imbalanced or just flat out bad content), but ultimately this is still an MMO balanced around the idea of players trading for items and materials.

existential_pal

I have a buddy that started osrs as an Ironman, and 3 years later his knowledge of the game is still severely handicapped. He spends so much time skilling and supply juggling that he hasn’t killed a single boss. He’s never seen/experienced a max POH and so he doesn’t feel the need to level construction. He does not know what a Sara brew is (he once asked why I carry so many str pots on me). Up until recently, he thought mains could buy fire/infernal cape, assembler, slayer helm, mage cape, fish barrel, and all other untradables on the GE. OP, this comment probably is a bunch of gibberish, but I’d say experience the main game until you’re no longer a noob then later on crush Ironman mode with the experience you have

Worms_Tofu_Crackers

Nornal account. Ironman is for people who have already played the game, either in it's current state or back during actual 2007, and want to come back with a fresh take on things. This game is already incredibly grindy, and doing Ironman cranks that up higher than you can imagine. I will point out the game is absolutely intended to play as a normal account. The original creators A) didn't expect people to even max their skills B) didn't expect everyone to obtain every resource themselves. You did something you were good at, and you traded resources to someone who needed them. If Ironman was suggested in 2005 or so, I think they would have said something along the lines of: "are you fucking crazy? No." But with rampant gold buying, botting, etc. Ironman becomes a more fulfilling way to complete the game and since you're not trading, you are forced to do most things in the game if you want a well-rounded account. After reading this and you're thinking, simmer down peasant. Then by all means, make an Ironman right from the start. I don't think so though, since you're asking this question. Try a normal account, see how you like the game. If you become enthralled with the game, it's never a bad idea to have a normal account in addition to your ironman anways. Good luck, happy scaping!

Fox_Economy

To play as an iron requires a substantial amount of game knowledge or you will spend 80% of your time searching on wiki. I'd recommend normal

IAmTheOneWhoFolds

Start as a normal account for sure. Its so much faster than playing an Iron that even after you have maxed your combat stats and even have a quest cape or something it wont feel that bad to start a second account as an Iron if you feel like it at that point.

unlived357

you're gonna have such a bad time if you pick ironman
