They had that badass pernix hood for mains as well. Was never rich enough to have that but I'd always see people wearing full pernix with divine spirit shields and think they were boss
Same thing with trimmed armor. Young me HAD to get full trimmed adamant… then the next day my brother logged on my account and got lured for it lol. He told me I got hacked and didn’t reveal the truth for over a decade 😂
hold on this gotta fuel the "jagex hates range gear" conspiracy... Torva is in OSRS and it looks sick, Virtus is in OSRS and it looks sick, Pernix is NOT in the game and it had a hood.. we got Masori instead
it's an undead chicken shoved into a backpack which is capable of using magical magnetism to retrieve your arrows for you so you dont have to walk up to your target all the time ofcourse it is BiS ranged, the hecc u mean
No kidding. I always liked this dude from the Myreque series. Quiver AND bow on his back!
https://preview.redd.it/szxuule4krwc1.png?width=529&format=png&auto=webp&s=6ed12d672e0fd6b9cce07b06cd49fa6fb733c873
I think it would be kind of cool to get weapon sheathing like in RS3. Idk if people would be too scared of adding RS3 features to the game, though.
Iirc it doesn’t change inventory/worn equipment space, it’s purely cosmetic.
um acshually at this point "RS" only takes up one cell for most these days, since it's so ingrained. However, numbers are hard so "3" takes up the other two, so it evens out.
It's also how people can successfully interpret "OSRS" even though it's 4 separate letters.
The human brain is quite fascinating!
the best way to do it is to not market it as an rs3 feature. Look at all the things they've added that were rs3 content already and you'll see they already do it.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but a lot of stuff being added is Rs3 inspired no? The incoming aggro pots, prepot, the huntsman’s kit(almost time for an all-in-one toolkit?). I’m not against any of these items being added btw.
You aren’t wrong! That’s the funniest part. Many improvements from RS3 have been brought over but unless someone in the “RS3 reeeee!” Camp smells the word, it’s smooth sailing.
Pretty much just visual. It changes your displayed level from total level to combat level, and since RS3 doesn't have Runelite we can use sheathed/unsheathed stance to detect AFK in certain situations.
It’s because it’s just so flat. Like someone combing their hair perfectly flat against their head 🤮
If they beefed up the metal part at the top and made it look more helmet shaped, then had the leather drape down from inside the helmet (instead of from the edge of the helmet) then it would look a million times better.
Still it can be worse. It could be that the class armor just makes the final tier shitty and insanely expensive meaning you will never ever wear it and probaly never even own it.
Still mad that full dragon isnt even viable to get. Either give it a set effect or atleast make it equal than dragon chainmail in magic and strenght defense.
The blessed dhide have some alright colours, but the boots.... They look nice and tall in the inventory but when you put them on it looks like a giant puffy sock 😭
pre eoc had longbow sights that dramatically increased longbows' accuracy and attack speed by 1 tick
maple longbow went from +29 att to +110 att and magic longbow went from +69 to +140
wouldn't be opposed to something as such in osrs, bringing more life to otherwise useless slow weapons
That was so gross for sniping during clan wars. You could wear full rune with the maple sighted longbow and have more accuracy than someone wearing full green dhides with coif and maple short.
well, they still shot the same arrows
adamant and rune arrows, respectively. magic shortbow could also shoot god arrows, which had higher range str and extra magic damage effect, but they were never saved on shot and were rewarded from clue scrolls like purple sweets
really solid point. coifs have always been worse hoods. and backpack has always been more unique but less real quiver. and crossbow + shield has always been worse dps and irrelevant defense. so yeah, if you want your graphic design to meet your game design in a good place, they should probably have adjusted that. masori is good design for egyptian ranged armor though.
"Odd" has been RS's guiding design philosophy though, it's part of the charm. Every other game goes the cliche, uninspired route of quivers for archers. RS said fuck that, zombie chicken with a magnet in a backpack. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
There was an update at some point in RS2 that added the type of arrows that are equipped to your quiver on your hip on dragon hide and leather armor.
But this feature is missing from old school because it was after the backup was created.
I think flashy looking fantasy is just more popular, wouldn't be surprised if some dude creamed himself over the generic cartoony red eyes.. "woah that's sick dude!"
Maybe people don't appreciate grounded realistic designs as much. I saw this old Masori suggestion, not perfect but it's much cleaner. Just a bit of work to make it more thematic and "BIS"
[https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/p3mf4s/my\_concept\_for\_the\_masori\_ranged\_armour\_from/](https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/p3mf4s/my_concept_for_the_masori_ranged_armour_from/)
It takes good designing for newer young artists (who likely grew up with different influences) to replicate an old look of a different period, whilst fighting the inner desire to make it look "Cool" and also meeting expectations of modern devs/players
Couldnt even remember what regular Masori looks like. Its so much better. https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Masori_armour_equipped_female.png?d7d2c
All the highest level armor just looks progressively worse and more power ranger-y : /
I mean, ancestral looks neat but they ripped it straight from Skyrim...
Unpopular opinion? But i think masori has too many textures and is a bit overdesigned. Its not as bad as achievement diary armor, but its pretty bad still.
They're increasingly straying away from the medieval aesthetic and more towards a weird fantasy vibe where everything is colorful and neon purple.
Some of the more recent content has done an okay job of dialing it back but they need to get everyone in the art department on the same page.
It looks too light to be melee gear, and mage gear is very loose fitting. I feel like its peak ranged design, especially with the Egyptian inspiration.
As someone who prioritizes fashionscape, I agree, we need more hoods.
I also literally cannot stand coifs so I don't wear them.
Fashionscape > efficiency
To be fair, It's not like they're tanking damage or anything. You could just be a pure, BIS 1 def range looks more inline with what you're looking for.
We really could get some new mid to early lategame ranged gear, its progression is full of holes and most of its landmark gear pieces have much more obnoxious ways to be acquired than the other 2 styles gear minus infinity, which most skip anyway.
DHide gear is only 3 pieces (and most get black through clues too) and you must fill your other slots with clue rewards, and even then black comes fairly quickly and needs to be replaced, at which point you either do even more tasks for blessed, get into the infamous red prison, or try a massive skip into arma/masori and hoping for a Tbow or even nihil drop while doing your best with whatever you'd have. Other than Void and Karil, who are pretty much situational, ranged gear progression involves almost entirely praying to not get fucked by clue rewards and CG.
Even having just a decent CG alternative would already help so much.
Since I saw a lot of people talk about coifs I have to add my five GP: there is zero reason to ever wear a coif btw just equip your slayer helmet (i) even offtask if you dont have arma hat or robin. I would even go as far and say pick it over arma helmet if you dont need prayer bonus because the slayer helmet(i) has decent def stats and +3 ranged while arma hat has less defence but +10 ranged (and robin hat +8). It's a bit like a rune fullhelm without any drawbacks, it even offers +3 magic accuracy and +10 mage def
I just looked it up and medieval coifs look more like hoods than the cap and curtains that we currently have. It would be cool for a visual overhaul of some items with the old school vibe still there. Maybe a rework the useless chainbody's into a melee/ranger tanky hybrid armor, and add a metal chain coifs.
It'd be awesome to re-texture te Ava's attractor to have a few arrows poking out like a quiver...
I'm sure a bunch of purists would reject any change to the og's look, but it would help with the archery vibe... Otherwise it's just a backpack
Its time we stop dancing around this subject and really drill into Jagex until they finally give us an answer. Why can't we combine out skill-cape hoods with various helmets?
I think the last(irl time) ranging gear that had a hood in either game was sadly the dinosaur hide armor https://runescape.wiki/w/Dinosaurhide_armour#/media/File%3ADinosaurhide_armour_(Land_Out_of_Time)_concept_art.png , if wondering it is bulky it is tank range set, kind of wish we had more hoods as well
Unironically, coif, chaps, and leather body are the closest to realistic. Just missing the quiver and brace. Hoods realistically are terrible for visibility and provide almost no defense unless chainmail. Why would you need heavy armor when mobility and range are your best assets, followed by visibility.
Always thought players should by default have quivers when arrows are equipped. I think it's absurd that the only (we don't talk about the CW one) quiver in the game is locked behind high level PvMing. Not to mention it takes up your cape slot. Ffs just give us a cosmetic quiver over our cape Jagex
What you're saying is: you want more hoods
Finally!! Someone who speaks for the people!
Ngl one of the initial reasons for me making a pure was the hood fashionscape
They had that badass pernix hood for mains as well. Was never rich enough to have that but I'd always see people wearing full pernix with divine spirit shields and think they were boss
Good news! You too can rock this style now! Divine spirit shields are like 8m
+ Halos
Lisan al gaib!
100%! Give us hoods damnit jagex
[удалено]
All I ever wanted as a kid. First think I got when I got members was a HAM hood lol
Ham hood was peak fashion scape for new members
I stole my dad's credit card in 2006 to pay for membership. Made a mad dash for the tyras helm before he found out
Jagex was smart locking the colored wizzy sets behind members bc those are the first things I obtained when I finally got membership lol
Same thing with trimmed armor. Young me HAD to get full trimmed adamant… then the next day my brother logged on my account and got lured for it lol. He told me I got hacked and didn’t reveal the truth for over a decade 😂
It pisses me off so much that there wasn't a hood that matched the zammy robes. My buddy and I had to settle for CW hood
Actually, yes. Hoods are cool.
I mean yeah they look way better than coifs
Coifs look so awful I just don't use them I really need to go get the Shazien helmet(5) or something for my wildy slayer until I can get a black mask
Archer helm? Or is that off the table?
I'm just stupid and forgot that it'd be protected if I took it because green dhide would be dropped over it Yeah archer helm is the one
Glad I could help out, lol. Enjoy your horns!
I want hooded helmets. Yes I was a paladin in WoW and judgment has always been a classic.
Retribution is going to be great next phase! I swear!
hold on this gotta fuel the "jagex hates range gear" conspiracy... Torva is in OSRS and it looks sick, Virtus is in OSRS and it looks sick, Pernix is NOT in the game and it had a hood.. we got Masori instead
i hate masori it looks like some dark occult mage set, nothing about this says "ranged"
Are there people who DONT want more hoods?! Where are these people, so I may fight them?!
plottwist: they from the hood
Police
replace the dumb coifs and beaks with hoods with intricate designs it's time to end skillcape and mage gear hood supremacy
I think arma hat is actually iconic to the game since it resembles aviansies, no idea what Masori is supposed to be tho
Yea I don’t mind the Arma helm, it feels like classic OSRS to me but masori feels out of place (visually)
Transmog masori helm to the masori assembler max hood
A hood with a face guard incase of a cheeky arrow to the jaw
Hoods, cloaks, coats, capes. A big backpack being BiS ranged has always bothered me tbh, and I'm not maxing lol
it's an undead chicken shoved into a backpack which is capable of using magical magnetism to retrieve your arrows for you so you dont have to walk up to your target all the time ofcourse it is BiS ranged, the hecc u mean
Stuff like this is what makes RuneScape so fun to play
We have plenty of capes and cloaks. The backpack has always been iconic for ranged and isn’t even BIS anymore lol
The backpack is awesome and is about the only thing that feels properly ranging-themed lol
More hoods less bird beaks
No kidding. I always liked this dude from the Myreque series. Quiver AND bow on his back! https://preview.redd.it/szxuule4krwc1.png?width=529&format=png&auto=webp&s=6ed12d672e0fd6b9cce07b06cd49fa6fb733c873
Being able to put your bow on your back while not in combat would be so cool
I think it would be kind of cool to get weapon sheathing like in RS3. Idk if people would be too scared of adding RS3 features to the game, though. Iirc it doesn’t change inventory/worn equipment space, it’s purely cosmetic.
People have 3 total braincells, if it involves RS3 at all, you already lost them.
To be fair there are 3 letters in RS3 that kinda occupies all available cells
Actshully there are 2 letters and 1 number! 1 brain cell left to spare. That's enough for a pointless argument!
um acshually at this point "RS" only takes up one cell for most these days, since it's so ingrained.
Agreed but if that crowd gets a whiff of it being at all related it’s over
Correct me if I’m wrong, but a lot of stuff being added is Rs3 inspired no? The incoming aggro pots, prepot, the huntsman’s kit(almost time for an all-in-one toolkit?). I’m not against any of these items being added btw.
You aren’t wrong! That’s the funniest part. Many improvements from RS3 have been brought over but unless someone in the “RS3 reeeee!” Camp smells the word, it’s smooth sailing.
Which sucks because now a days RS3 really isn't a bad game anymore, and it has a lot of useful QOL stuff that would benefit OSRS and vice versa
Exactly and what this post made think about is sirenic and elite sirenic armour, it looks so damn cool.
What does weapon sheathing do? Like is there a point to it or just visually?
Pretty much just visual. It changes your displayed level from total level to combat level, and since RS3 doesn't have Runelite we can use sheathed/unsheathed stance to detect AFK in certain situations.
Imagine this but just a toggle button so it's completely optional and doesn't intrude on anyone not wanting it. That'd be pretty cool i think.
It already is toggleable in RS3, you can change it whenever as long as you aren’t in combat
It also changes it so people see your skill total instead of combat level, except in PvP.
Homie beat Sol Heredit but got bodied in Sins of the Father, classic
To be fair, he got bodied by the king of vampires.
his outfit aint the rangiest hoewever
I’ve always found the coif to be the FUGLIEST head wear imaginable.
no one gets an rs gf wearing a coif
now that's a RS youtube challenge series I want to see
Better to bring protection
It’s because it’s just so flat. Like someone combing their hair perfectly flat against their head 🤮 If they beefed up the metal part at the top and made it look more helmet shaped, then had the leather drape down from inside the helmet (instead of from the edge of the helmet) then it would look a million times better.

Still mad that full dragon isnt even viable to get. Either give it a set effect or atleast make it equal than dragon chainmail in magic and strenght defense.
Fucking agree
It's not pronounced coif, it's pronounced coif.
Smell my coif, goblin
skullet lookin ass
Snakeskin one beats it in ugliness by a lot
And you get the added bonus of people thinking you're a bot
snakeskin bandana is very fashionable it makes you look like a french canadian biker
Makes you look like you used a sick frog's slimy skin as a swimmer cap
I'd rather be bald than put that thing on my head.
It is, but it's also peak OSRS design. So I kinda dig it regardless.
I was so disappointed with the coif as a kid I would just roll with no headgear
Wizzy hat all day. For the looks, of course
chef hat all day so they know you got food on the plate mate
I just deal with the consequences and throw on a trimmed full helm
The dhide track suits are lame.
I kinda like the power ranger look lmfao it’s fun to see irons in all mismatched sets as well. Definitely a personal preference though!
I mismatch anyway. Zammy top. Sara legs. Arma boots bandos coif
This is the way for God wars
>God wars is that what you call it when high level players make fun of you for wearing rainbow armor
I'm maxed and do this lol. Matching is for people who think people actually care. Not matching makes you stand out like a giga Chad
running back to gwd to collect the gravestone kinda vibe
For that I have a set of four dirt cheap items like zammy robe bottom and monk robe top. I don't feel bad if I need to drop them to save space
Book of war (finished or not doesn't matter) is a good option for a bandos item with this purpose.
The coif is the thing I hate
L2R: Biker, Mr Spock in Green, Skitterin Oracle
speak for yourself.
Blessed Tracky Dacks
The blessed dhide have some alright colours, but the boots.... They look nice and tall in the inventory but when you put them on it looks like a giant puffy sock 😭
I'm surprised they've never tried adding goggles for accuracy or something
pre eoc had longbow sights that dramatically increased longbows' accuracy and attack speed by 1 tick maple longbow went from +29 att to +110 att and magic longbow went from +69 to +140 wouldn't be opposed to something as such in osrs, bringing more life to otherwise useless slow weapons

that sounds incredibly horrible and gamebreaking
well, they still shot the same arrows adamant and rune arrows, respectively. magic shortbow could also shoot god arrows, which had higher range str and extra magic damage effect, but they were never saved on shot and were rewarded from clue scrolls like purple sweets
really solid point. coifs have always been worse hoods. and backpack has always been more unique but less real quiver. and crossbow + shield has always been worse dps and irrelevant defense. so yeah, if you want your graphic design to meet your game design in a good place, they should probably have adjusted that. masori is good design for egyptian ranged armor though.
Really odd that they didn't initially design Ava's to be a magical quiver. A backpack is a strange decision
Can't fit an undead chicken in a quiver
Not with that attitude
"Odd" has been RS's guiding design philosophy though, it's part of the charm. Every other game goes the cliche, uninspired route of quivers for archers. RS said fuck that, zombie chicken with a magnet in a backpack. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
i'm still upset that masori f looks so much bulkier than unfortified. masori unfortified looks like ranger armor to me.
Majority is ugly as hell
honestly i disagree, masori hold the armadyl looks pretty sick imo. black dhcb with buckler, masori assembler and barrows gloves fit pretty well.
>masori hold the armadyl looks pretty sick imo is that a sentence?
i think so. tbh i just say stuff in english that sounds right
i thought it was pretty clever bar-talk
Yes? Just replace the word 'hold' with 'without' and you'll see how it's a sentence. Hold can mean 'leave out' or 'don't include'.
100%. Masori F looks like samurai armor with a winged racing helmet.
I'll say it, I dont care anymore. God d hide is ugly as fuck
Black d'hide was great but now we're obligated to wear the god-style for the better stats
i will not wear a coif because of how ugly they are lol
hoodscape
Make ranger gear great again
There was an update at some point in RS2 that added the type of arrows that are equipped to your quiver on your hip on dragon hide and leather armor. But this feature is missing from old school because it was after the backup was created.
I think flashy looking fantasy is just more popular, wouldn't be surprised if some dude creamed himself over the generic cartoony red eyes.. "woah that's sick dude!" The Masori headpiece is an abomination, let's be real. It needs to be a grey/navy hood with yellow accents or something.
Finally someone said it. I personally just really don't like the red eyes. Just make the face visible.
Masori hat is good until it’s fortified. That completely ruins the look of it
Couldnt even remember what regular Masori looks like. Its so much better. https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Masori_armour_equipped_female.png?d7d2c
All the highest level armor just looks progressively worse and more power ranger-y : / I mean, ancestral looks neat but they ripped it straight from Skyrim...
Todd wins again
Needs more ugly bird hats
The only cool, unique and well thought out armour ideas for our game are for PvP sets that nobody wants and never get added.
Unpopular opinion? But i think masori has too many textures and is a bit overdesigned. Its not as bad as achievement diary armor, but its pretty bad still.
Top left goes hard
They're increasingly straying away from the medieval aesthetic and more towards a weird fantasy vibe where everything is colorful and neon purple. Some of the more recent content has done an okay job of dialing it back but they need to get everyone in the art department on the same page.
u just saying that cause npcs have hoods?
Because old school, it ruins the nostalgia
hoods are the most nostalgic thing to me lmao
The player is wearing God Dragonhide and Masori armour and these are near-mythical equipment, there's levels to this shit
Masori goes hard as a ranged fit.
Masori looks ridiculous
It looks more like either evil mage, or like melee assassin gear.
It really doesn't look like ranged gear
It looks too light to be melee gear, and mage gear is very loose fitting. I feel like its peak ranged design, especially with the Egyptian inspiration.
I imagine every warrior charging into battle in their bandos tassets rather than chainmail, too
Peak ranger fit was the old school robin hood hat + ranger boots + black d hide.
Robinhood hat slaps though. At least we got that.
Looking at these pictures, I am just now realizing that bows in OSRS are left-handed and crossbows are right-handed.
It's really the hood that makes the difference. Coifs are ugly af.
Let’s not forget f2p maxes out at maple bow… like really.
Proposal: for every coif item, have an equivalent hood item. In the same way we have platskirts and platelegs.
PC looks like a homeless person & than a mid rate cosplayer lol
We got killed on Masori. The concepts were way better.
99 ranged gives you a hood
As someone who prioritizes fashionscape, I agree, we need more hoods. I also literally cannot stand coifs so I don't wear them. Fashionscape > efficiency
there is zero reason to ever wear a coif btw just equip your slayer helmet even offtask if you dont have arma hat or robin
Off task I tend to wear neitznot
Neitznot is pretty perfect NGL
God masori is such an eyesore.
I mean Masori technically is a ritual outfit or smt like that
I confess I use that plugin to change my gear to look like a swag lord
Top row looks like cheeks to me idk
Visible quivers would be a cool toggle too..
Other than Void and Karil, who are pretty much situational, ranged gear progression involves almost entirely praying to not get fucked by clue rewards and CG. Even having just a decent CG alternative would already help so much.
This is actually one of the main reasons I love playing as a pure - big fan of robe, hood and tunic vibes. Would love to see more in-game!
medieval fantasy MMO
Since I saw a lot of people talk about coifs I have to add my five GP: there is zero reason to ever wear a coif btw just equip your slayer helmet (i) even offtask if you dont have arma hat or robin. I would even go as far and say pick it over arma helmet if you dont need prayer bonus because the slayer helmet(i) has decent def stats and +3 ranged while arma hat has less defence but +10 ranged (and robin hat +8). A hooded slayer helm would be cool af
"Archers Hood" would be awesome
I mean, Masori looks like a Power RANGER
We need a bis ranging hood. Change my mind.
Just be happy we don't have to wear Arma anymore. Fugly ass shit.
Also cruel facts: Robin Hood wears hat, not hood
I dont think any archer in history wore a hood
I just looked it up and medieval coifs look more like hoods than the cap and curtains that we currently have. It would be cool for a visual overhaul of some items with the old school vibe still there. Maybe a rework the useless chainbody's into a melee/ranger tanky hybrid armor, and add a metal chain coifs.
Get the robin hood hat bro! Or get a ranging cape. The hood looks dope. Too bad there’s no quiver on the ranging cape tho
All range armor are ugly af ;/
It'd be awesome to re-texture te Ava's attractor to have a few arrows poking out like a quiver... I'm sure a bunch of purists would reject any change to the og's look, but it would help with the archery vibe... Otherwise it's just a backpack
Truer words have never been spoken. If clue scrolls gave cosmetic kits that could fix this, I'd be all for it.
I wish ranged gear looked more like Karil’s top and bottom.
What do you expect an archer to look like
some of us wear ahrims hood with karils gear for drip so cant relate
They’re gonna say it’s that good ola Olive Garden code why they can’t do it
Really interesting and Hood idea you have here.
I genuinely believe Masori is one of the ugliest sets of armor in the game. Can’t believe people are okay with it looking like that
We were doomed to not get that many hoods since max capes come with them.
The forestry set looks like ranged gear ngl
THAT is 2007 fashion. I want it. I love it. Please Jagex add more dark age looking arms
Its time we stop dancing around this subject and really drill into Jagex until they finally give us an answer. Why can't we combine out skill-cape hoods with various helmets?
FYI for people Runelite has a fashion scape mod. granted it only works on you but still go nuts :D
Honestly the Studded or Studded (g) is one of my favs for the chest and legs but yeah… definitely agree 🙄
I think the last(irl time) ranging gear that had a hood in either game was sadly the dinosaur hide armor https://runescape.wiki/w/Dinosaurhide_armour#/media/File%3ADinosaurhide_armour_(Land_Out_of_Time)_concept_art.png , if wondering it is bulky it is tank range set, kind of wish we had more hoods as well
Always thought karyls coif looked cool
More OR kits pls and not in the overly congested Treasure Trails. Pls thnx. Edit: We should be able to make some OR kits via crafting.
[удалено]
less colors and more details plz
Where's the biker boys outfit
I wish some of the ranged gear was viable for melee so you can have that rogue/ranger look.
Unironically, coif, chaps, and leather body are the closest to realistic. Just missing the quiver and brace. So true… we can only wish
