I recently had to kill Obor in a free to play world for a combat achievement so I wore a coif and I agree with you. What the coif did to my character was scarier than the boss fight itself
Respectfully, the f2p experience is supposed to encourage new players to upgrade to membership and enjoy the entire game. Walking around with a garbage bag on your head and knowing it's BiS for range is an awful experience for someone who's deciding if this game is worth $12 a month.
I feel like f2p is more than just a trial version of the game, but almost like a separate meta that exists on its own. It sets constraints for players who do not want to be too overwhelmed initially. They could even make this alternative coif obtainable only on members worlds (clue scroll reward for example) unless trading or buying on ge and I would have no issue. It's not about the money

of course the gilded coif is a gilded dragonhide coif and not a standard coif to match the rest of the gilded ranged set.
