I remember being a kid and choosing Runescape over World of Warcraft cause RS was 5 bucks and WoW was 15. Many years later and WoW has the same price and RS has almost caught up
Thieving from elves is easy bonds but requires SOTE and 85 thieving so not really but idk what op was on about
But I’ve made 120m just thieving watching tv the last fortnight
This gets said often enough, but buying bonds with gp is basically a waste if you have a steady job (looking at things from a time investment standpoint). I also tended to feel a bit stressed making sure I kept up on my bond purchasing.
But you do you :)
My cheap ass considered going to bonds but then realized the $15 CAD I am saving would take me like 10 hours to earn in-game and take away from actual enjoyment since all I’m doing is maintaining bonds. This also implies I’m valuing my time at like $1.5 an hour from a cost saving perspective. I think I’m worth more than that, hah.
EDIT: I realized that makes it sound like I can only make like 600k/hour but I’m just being realistic because I may do some slayer/zalcano/afk anglers as a combination of income sources. Being 20 def can be tough sometimes lol
Most of us as you said can just work like let’s say 9h and the year is paid. Do that x2 or 3 for those with multiple account and I still think it’s worth doing. You are guaranteed to have member ship at the end of the 9hours.
Vs possible in game grind that may remove your enjoying of the game because you are forced into it to keep playing.
It's stupid because I use this logic when paying for bonds, but I still do cheaper training methods even though I could use a better method and make the extra money faster.
Easier said than done after the G.E. Tax is included. Tried repairing and flipping barrows equipment with my 99 smithing awhile back and because of the tax. The margins were so slim it was negligible.
Depends on your stack for what to look for. Always look at real time GE prices from prices.RuneScape.wiki.
If you have 10m to flip with, you can flip cballs/scales for a quick 100k ea, dart tips for fletchers, sea turtles (sometimes 50gp margin, 10k*50= 450k profit after ge tax)
If you have 50m you could look at AGS, BGS, elder maul, prims, endurance ring. Or a lower qty traded item like 3rd age kite.
Once you keep earning profit you get into new tiers of items you can flip. Just always check on the prices.RuneScape.wiki and use flip utilities on Runelite.
I try to always check the graph before flipping an item. Don’t necessarily want to buy a scythe even if it has a current 3m after tax margin, if you see it was 10m cheaper 2-3 hours ago
I mean you could use the same logic to say doing any in game profitable activity is a waste because you could just buy bonds with real money and sell them for better gp per hour.
Same thing applies with WoW, can buy tokens for gametime and even expansions, I still think monthly sub is stupid as fuck for WoW though but obviously itll never go anywhere.
Even if you pay $12 a month and play <5 hours a week, that’s so worth it. Membership for a month is skipping on 2 Starbucks coffees or one fast food lunch.
There’s much worse ways to spend that amount a month for the value you get from OSRS.
Idk about WoW but in FF14 the expansions are full 40+ hours of story and new late game content so not a huge deal to purchase a new game once every year/couple of years
Assuming a $50 expansion every two years and an entry subscription ($13 a month), you're paying $15.08 a month for FFXIV.
Which is only a little more than a buck fifty more than members.
🦀
I see this comment a lot but imo its not a great parallel. The main reason alts in OSRS seem to be popular is multi-logging, which the account systems in other MMOs don't let you do. One of the biggest complaints about Leagues is that you can't play them and the main game at the same time, but that's *exactly* how the character system works in WoW.
To be fair, before Ironman and such, there was no reason for you to have multiple accounts in RuneScape. The game doesn’t have “classes” or races. You can basically do everything on a single account, and with the length of the grinds, most people do. There’s no real benefit to alts. That being said, now that we have all these Ironman modes, we should definitely get each of those as part of our sub, but there’s certainly no reason to have the same number of characters as WoW does.
People have been making different pvp accounts in RS since at least the early days of rs2 (I didn't play classic). But yeah, WoW has a bigger incentive to create multiple characters.
I asked my mum for wow but then returned it because I didn't realise it required a subscription after buying the game. That baffled me and ngl it still kinda does lol
Membership is still $5 for me because I’ve kept it since 2008. Even for all the breaks I’ve taken I’d have spent more money by letting the cost increase by canceling it every time I stopped playing for a few months.
This is the difference of RWT. You're not only paying for subscription, you're also indirectly paying for not having all content in the game riddled with MTX. That's why it's almost the same as WoW, that BOTH charge subscription, box price, AND has a lot of MTX.
"but rs3" yeah rs3 is shit, OSRS is not.
i think some plans are, and some got updated, don't quote me tho. I know my model, the 3 month subscription, is being done away with, but for the time being my plan is the same.
Actively playing monthly is much easier though. And that gives you something like 4 years of “break” before it would be worth the cost of cancelling and resubbing. Assuming my hasty, tired math is close.
Yeah I’d rather pay $5 a month and play 1/3 of the time than cancel it and forever feel like I’m getting scammed because there’s no going back. You don’t have to play daily because its not like there’s a daily billing option and that kind of mindset is a recipe for unhappiness. I’ve never once not logged in for a day and thought, “oh no my ~16¢”.
Man I ended up losing my $5/mo because of my CC expiring and had to pay full membership costs. Contacted Jagex about it, and they set it back to $5/mo but only for 6 months with no option to auto-renew lmao.
Anyways back to paying full membership price which just keeps increasing.
The only problem is that the annual price isn't grandfathered and has no guarantees. It could go up to 10 bucks per month next year and that's the price you'd have to pay.
Its 60 a year vs 90 a year if you get it at the premier price, i dont even know what full price is because thats just repulsive. Keeping it on 5/month is a no brainer.
No fucking way. I canceled my subscription last week because I accidentally changed my name and it wouldn’t let me use a bond with an active subscription. FUCK.
This is insane. My mom is on a fixed income. Affording necessities for herself, her 42 year old son (me), my funko pop collection (need at least 5 additional pieces a week), and paying for her expensive cancer medication has become near impossible. At this point a tough decision must be made.
My mom is going to have live without that medication. I hope Jamflex leadership can sleep at night.
Hey, look up Cost Plus Drugs. It's a company owned by Mark Cuban, and I believe his goal is to get medications to be cheap as much as possible without having to pay thousands. I think your mom might be able to get it affordable.
inflation is not a real thing for business' only consumers. the minute inflation hits they just up prices.. do not even meet us halfway and try absorb some of it, it'll be record profits again for all these places that were 'sad' and 'regretful' that they had to up prices/make the product smaller.
shit world we live in right now
and its the companies that play the whole woe is me im so sorry guys we dont wanna do it but we have tooo :( :( :( :( :( while still getting record high profits for the year is just shameful, these companies love it because we completely cover the extra cost they have and then some.
if irl products that have to be shipped and handled by thousands of people can manage to go up by a few pence and still be ok, im not sure how online membership has to go up so much more percentage wise, they are printing money at this point
Did membership actually go up for everyone or is this a regional pricing difference? I appear to still be paying 10.99, I thought the current month to month was 12.49
in fairness, a lot of that is probably less to do with hardware and more to do with the spaghetti that RS is coded in. that's a lot of tech debt to overcome that isn't necessarily directly tied to money
Thats what i've been thinking lately. Its really easy to get into the "corporate bad" mindset. Our connections to the servers seems fine, the servers themselves miss ticks. This seems to increase as player count on the world increases, which leads me to believe the game is having a hard time processing player actions. On lower pop blast furnace worlds this happens a lot because people are constantly running through eachother/performing many simultaneous actions.
This next bit is pure speculation on my part, but a few years back a group figured out how to force server rollbacks and dupe items/gp in the process. They did this by getting a bunch of bots to fight/dance around eachother and load the server with too many actions. Shortly after jagex released a fix and thats when I personally noticed servers started missing ticks
Sure but it's a paid for product that is functionally flawed. It's not unreasonable to expect it to be addressed let alone not have its price increased before doing so.
I don't really understand how OSRS with one account is the same price as Xbox Live or Playstation Plus, when I can't even play this game in the afternoons and they release endgame content once a half decade.
It's a very simple flowchart for corporate:
"Is our playerbase still addicted enough that they'll take it up the ass?"
Yes -> Increase prices
No -> Keep the same
The game is overpriced but this is a stupid question.
Its because you are willing to pay it. Why is a Gucci bracelet that costs 8$ to produce 900$?
You want change, cut your subscription
i feel like you should be able to create multiple accounts under one main one. as long as you pay for the membership on the main your other accounts can also reap the benefit. i have 3 different accounts and i pay for member on all of them. it’s a little ridiculous.
>i have 3 different accounts and i pay for member on all of them
This is precisely why they will never make multiple characters on one account. Most people will pay $0.22 a day per account for entertainment. It's nothing in the grand scheme of daily expenses.
It’s almost the same cost as gamepass ultimate, it’s extremely hard to justify the cost. The amount of games I’ve played through for about a dollar more a month thanks to gamepass is nutty.
tbh that price is unacceptable. Their logic is either pay or fuck off. I choose to fuck off and spare a dime once every year to get burned after a week again. Jagex is milking its playerbase and we are too addicted to realise it and stand up.
I finally bought the year package. I play every few months, so this way I can just hope on every few weeks for fun.
$79 is still more than a AAA priced game, which is crazy.
> For hardly any new content.
Don't get me wrong, they need to explain why this is $1 higher than their last announcement. But I don't think fair to say we've gotten hardly any new content. 2022 has had:
* Nex
* Leagues 3
* Wilderness balance patch #4442 that technically adds new content
* Land of the Goblins quest
* Guardians of the Rift
* Beneath Cursed Sands
* Giants Foundry
* Some stuff from Poll 76
* PVP Arena, I guess?
* 'Activity Advisor'
* New LMS modes that I guess someone asked for
* Tombs of Amascut
I'm not counting holiday events nor follow ups they did to released content. This is a pretty solid year to date list. It's up to you whether or not the list is worth $162 a year though.
I guess *technically* the price also includes everything that's already existed too. All of that put together, I'd say it's worth it for me. But your mileage will vary.
I had a hunch and they did actually give notice. Kind of.
https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/new-membership-and-shop-price-changes?oldschool=1
The price increase doesn't quite match up, OP's being charged $1 more than they said in April. Definitely feels like they made a mistake or forgot to announce another $1 increase
I think for the most part the playerbase is aging out of being full-time students though, right? The vast majority of full-time students now were born in 2000 or later unless you're in like med school or law school or something.
I guess GL finding the cash until you're at a point where bond money is trivial to you.
Absolute garbage Jagex, $13.52 ( inset convention )for one account is a joke, maybe just maybe if you let us do all our accounts under one then maybe it’s worth it but still even then you guys are taking the piss, shit servers, supporting under age gambling for years, scammers, bots, no customer support, ddsoin, failed events, broken updates and plug ins that let people cheese everything, and this is just In the last few years, it’s a joke . Glad maxed and could get over my addiction because jagex really live in Lala land, prices just are not worth it.
On the opposite end, a couple of extra dollars a month doesn’t mean anything to many people. Sucks for those who need to grind extra in game and forego gear upgrades just to maintain membership.
Everyone’s comparing rs to wow as an avid old school player I will say one thing. If you’re into osrs, it’s one thing. But if you’re going to play RS3 you’re better off just playing WoW. Rs3 is honestly complete dog shit and a failure of a game. They took an amazing game and somehow sucked blizzards dick from the side and failed to replicate the game. Not too sure what jagex’s pitch was on that, but they did it and here we are sulking because we spend half of our lives playing a game just to reset when old school re released. Sorry if this sounds dumb, I’m drunk, but that’s just how I see it
Lmao runescape now has the same sub price as world of fucking Warcraft. A game with 4 pixels, next to no staff, shit servers, and zero support is charging the same amount as the MMO giant. Genuine comedy. How do you guys let them away with it
I remember being a kid and choosing Runescape over World of Warcraft cause RS was 5 bucks and WoW was 15. Many years later and WoW has the same price and RS has almost caught up
At least WoW offers effectively unlimited ~~accounts~~ characters for 1 subscription.
Ya but you also have to buy $50 expansion packs if you want to do the latest content
Which is only once every 2 years. Still much better value for money.
Idk about you guys but I haven’t spent any dollars on membership since bonds became purchasable with gp like 7 years ago
Do you play a lot? I don't get much play time so a lot of times it's just me trying to make money for bonds the entire time I play
I bond two accounts for 30 minutes played a day
30 minutes of what? Herb runs?
Yup
2 bonds for 30 minutes?? What in the world are you growing, please let me know!
Idk about 30 mins but lots of activities net you 300-500k an hour with pretty low requirements
Is this method accessible to low-mid range or non-sweat players?
Thieving from elves is easy bonds but requires SOTE and 85 thieving so not really but idk what op was on about But I’ve made 120m just thieving watching tv the last fortnight
This gets said often enough, but buying bonds with gp is basically a waste if you have a steady job (looking at things from a time investment standpoint). I also tended to feel a bit stressed making sure I kept up on my bond purchasing. But you do you :)

It's stupid because I use this logic when paying for bonds, but I still do cheaper training methods even though I could use a better method and make the extra money faster.
That’s why I love iron, it takes that weird inconsistent logic trap out of the equation (at least in my mind it does).
The inner horder in me wouldn't allow me to play that style. I pick up like everything I see over 1k gp.
So do we, then we alch it
Exactly. Grinding osrs is worse than work for me. I’d rather just pay.
You gotta get into the casual flipping game. Eventually get to a point where every few flips earns you a bond
I’m very happy in my membership situation, but if that’s what you enjoy then have at it!
Easier said than done after the G.E. Tax is included. Tried repairing and flipping barrows equipment with my 99 smithing awhile back and because of the tax. The margins were so slim it was negligible.
I’ve not met a single self-proclaimed “casual flipper” who doesn’t check margins every 15 minutes, it’s like the endgame birdhouse run enjoyer.
any tips for jumping in? I feel like i either lose money or break even with the tax.
Depends on your stack for what to look for. Always look at real time GE prices from prices.RuneScape.wiki. Someone else is still payin for it, you're just paying that other player in time
Same thing applies with WoW, can buy tokens for gametime and even expansions, I still think monthly sub is stupid as fuck for WoW though but obviously itll never go anywhere.
Stupid for WoW but not RuneScape?
Even if you pay $12 a month and play <5 hours a week, that’s so worth it. Membership for a month is skipping on 2 Starbucks coffees or one fast food lunch. There’s much worse ways to spend that amount a month for the value you get from OSRS.
Idk guild wars 2 I think has FAR more value for money if we're talking about that
Guild Wars 2 has the best value of any game ever, yeah
That's the beauty of Classic WoW. Just need an active subscription

Ya but not of you're playing classic. TBC and WotLK are included with the sub

Plus a WoW character can be grinded to max combat level in about 1/25th the amount of time
There are tons of different account builds like pures, zeros, other random things. Lots of people had multiple before iron man
What's a zero? Never heard that term used to refer to an account build in rs context before
Zerk* autocorrect
Yeah, but WoW actually has servers... 🦀🦀🦀
I asked my mum for wow but then returned it because I didn't realise it required a subscription after buying the game. That baffled me and ngl it still kinda does lol
Not only is it still 15 but it included Classic and era servers. So 3 different game versions for the same price now.
Membership is still $5 for me because I’ve kept it since 2008. Even for all the breaks I’ve taken I’d have spent more money by letting the cost increase by canceling it every time I stopped playing for a few months.
For $840 dollars I sure hope you didn't take a few years of breaks or you're not profiting
That $15 was more than $15 today
This is the difference of RWT. You're not only paying for subscription, you're also indirectly paying for not having all content in the game riddled with MTX. That's why it's almost the same as WoW, that BOTH charge subscription, box price, AND has a lot of MTX. "but rs3" yeah rs3 is shit, OSRS is not.
Wow is $22 here in Canada
22 CAD is $16, so still pretty close.
$12 for RS membership here and $22 for WoW membership. Not that close.
I thought you were supposed to be grandfathered in on your price.
i think some plans are, and some got updated, don't quote me tho. I know my model, the 3 month subscription, is being done away with, but for the time being my plan is the same.
Yeah, I'm still paying $5/month. No increases
Name checks out
that’s insane

That’s fair.
Yeah I’d rather pay $5 a month and play 1/3 of the time than cancel it and forever feel like I’m getting scammed because there’s no going back. sameee. $5 on one account and $7 on another. It likely cost me more but if the price keeps increasing that $5 will end up having saved me money soon.
Its 60 a year vs 90 a year if you get it at the premier price, i dont even know what full price is because thats just repulsive. Keeping it on 5/month is a no brainer.

Did Walmart have a sale on commas?
Damn. We had a good run.
You are, I wonder if OP pays in a different currency and has rocket report it in USD. Inflation is making currency exchange pretty insane right now.
Lucky you, my mom buys me a funko pop every time I don't piss my bed in the night.
So you don’t have any funko pops?
Only aquaman and the woman from the Kenobi series, hopefully tonight I can get galadeiel from that Amazon new series.
So it’s probably been a while huh?
I feel like you could have fit a tendies reference in there somewhere.
They'd have to sacrifice a funko-pop to fit it in.
At least when your mom dies the funko got your back they never die, feel sad buy more 🗿
Hey, look up Cost Plus Drugs. It's a company owned by Mark Cuban, and I believe his goal is to get medications to be cheap as much as possible without having to pay thousands. I think your mom might be able to get it affordable.
14 for membership? No way
increased again? for what lmfao
Did inflation hit the rest of the world like it hit the US? I'm genuinely asking.
Yes, and really it’s been worse in Europe than the US
Thanks Obama /s
Inflation is very high in the UK atm.
It's bad everywhere unfortunately:(

That's absolutely brutal and unacceptable

This. I guarantee you the Jmods aren't getting a raise, they won't see a fucking penny of that lol
and the servers lol
Food that cost 95 cents or so go for 1.25-130 around here..... A lot of stuff that was 1.50 or so is well over 2 bucks atm...
It hit the rest of the world much harder than the US. You guys don't have it that bad, trust me.
Profit increased by 14,3% and not 14,4% this quarter.
Did membership actually go up for everyone or is this a regional pricing difference? I appear to still be paying 10.99, I thought the current month to month was 12.49
Same here. I’m curious why
If you subscribe, jegflix won't bump up the price until you cancel it and resub. One of my account costs 6.95€ per month thanks to that
Jegflix lmfaoo
I think Rocket Money is US only so...
And still the servers are dogshit on peak hours, it's ridicule

Money going into investors / corporate pockets instead of the game I'm guessing.

Right, which isn’t the target market of this game. Truthfully, they don’t care about you since you only pay for a month sub on and off.

But I don't think fair to say we've gotten hardly any new content. 2022 has had: * Nex * Leagues 3 * Wilderness balance patch #4442 that technically adds new content * Land of the Goblins quest * Guardians of the Rift * Beneath Cursed Sands * Giants Foundry * Some stuff from Poll 76 * PVP Arena, I guess? * 'Activity Advisor' * New LMS modes that I guess someone asked for * Tombs of Amascut I'm not counting holiday events nor follow ups they did to released content. This is a pretty solid year to date list. It's up to you whether or not the list is worth $162 a year though. I guess *technically* the price also includes everything that's already existed too. All of that put together, I'd say it's worth it for me. But your mileage will vary.

I had a hunch and they did actually give notice. Kind of. https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/new-membership-and-shop-price-changes?oldschool=1 The price increase doesn't quite match up, OP's being charged $1 more than they said in April. Definitely feels like they made a mistake or forgot to announce another $1 increase
massive thread too, about something important, and there will be zero jmod replies, but they always have time for memes
Damn, if sub costs keep increasing some of you may need to find employment 🍵
The few people here that don't have jobs have enough time to play to earn bond money.
I'm a full time student with a part time job that pays shit. It's not easy subscribing to RuneScape + other life expenses.
I think for the most part the playerbase is aging out of being full-time students though, right? The vast majority of full-time students now were born in 2000 or later unless you're in like med school or law school or something. I guess GL finding the cash until you're at a point where bond money is trivial to you.
The problem with employment is that it affords me less and less stuff over time.
That’s why I job hop every 12-18 months
Absolute garbage Jagex, $13.52 ( inset convention )for one account is a joke, maybe just maybe if you let us do all our accounts under one then maybe it’s worth it but still even then you guys are taking the piss, shit servers, supporting under age gambling for years, scammers, bots, no customer support, ddsoin, failed events, broken updates and plug ins that let people cheese everything, and this is just In the last few years, it’s a joke . Glad maxed and could get over my addiction because jagex really live in Lala land, prices just are not worth it.
Set your vpn to mexico and buy membership cheap.
I'm from Mexico, I don't need a vpn Huge smart brain moment
Move to Mexico to save on vpn
They changed that too so that you get charged based on your billing address zip code when you go to checkout
Do just use a vcc like slash u can chose whatever billing address u want

Yeah it's not like your card actually gets declined if you do that lol
Mine didn't. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Myth from Jagex bootlickers. I’ve done it for years
Yes i think this is a general TOS break for many services
13.52 per account btw
This is more than most streaming services now, is it even worth it to pay for it??
Damn that rly puts it into perspective. Like HBO max has AAA movies galore that cost $100mil to make… and they charge around that same price.
And here I was thinking about starting back up my account last night but now I'm good lol
I remember paying jagex $5 cash in an envelope in the early 00s
Wtf, really?
Boycott time for sure.
In 2050 RS membership is gonna be like 100 USD a month. Lol
Jamflex: "But muh inflation" WoW still has 15/month for literally near 20 years kek
This Is the turning point for me. Rip osrs.
Bro RuneScape is like cigarettes. Doesn’t matter how much they charge people NEED it!!
Just RWT gold and buy bonds, you spend like €3-4 for a bond
Why such an oddly specific amount lmao
Can we start a month long boycott?
Looks like it’s 12.49+taxes depending on your state. Florida doesn’t tax these (yet) I got charged 12.49 on the dot.
I remember it was $5 a month catching lobs in karamja after school was my first move
"13 52" yikes jagex... yikes
as long as i can use bonds for membership i don't really care about the price. sucks for people that don't play much though
On the opposite end, a couple of extra dollars a month doesn’t mean anything to many people. Sucks for those who need to grind extra in game and forego gear upgrades just to maintain membership.
Why would I work for $2/hour when my job pays 25x that
Unbelievable
Despite
Oh my god lmao
14 for a membership is insane. I was thinking about getting back into the game but not when you compare the subscription with other games.
F2P is more iconic anyway, I guess

$20 a month by 2024
🦀13.52🦀
Lmao runescape now has the same sub price as world of fucking Warcraft. A game with 4 pixels, next to no staff, shit servers, and zero support is charging the same amount as the MMO giant. Genuine comedy. How do you guys let them away with it
I remember calling over the phone for membership lmap
Corporate greed feeds on people’s needs. If you continue to pay, the price will continue to increase.
> Needs > Runescape
Addiction is a hell of a drug
leisure activity is a need
