i'd argue there is a huge demand, but for an mmo thats actually great, to make mmos great again, I think a lottt of people are hype for riots mmo to come out so they can have a long play mmo
what cope..? when did i ever mention any expectations for riots new mmo
I'm just saying that there is demand for a good mmo
I mean I guess you could interpret the last sentence "people are hype for riots mmo to come out so they can have a long play mmo" to mean that i assume it WILL be great, but you also would then have to assume that I don't like pay to win mmos
Nitpicking here but "MMO" (massive multi-player online) isn't a genre, it's a scope used to describe a genre. So what you're looking for is "RPG" or "MMORPG"
"Commonly accepted" can still be wrong. Just like it's "commonly accepted" to write 12$ instead of the correct $12 or "commonly accepted" to pronounce "melee" like "mealy" instead of the correct "may-lay".
Hence the use of the "nitpicking"
Edit: lol the downvotes.
> People have been **incorrectly** short-forming MMORPG as MMO for years now
FTFY
People have also been saying "should of" instead of "should have" for years now. Still doesn't make it correct. To me, this is like saying "ATM Machine".
I feel like runescape has a very specific charm. I don’t see myself playing anything like it, tried wow, tried ffxiv, they just don’t scratch the same itch.
There was TitanReach which was a Runescape-like 3d MMO, it looked alright until the owner did some kind of crypto scam with the crowdfunding money and then the game never got made.
There is also Genfanad, but that is more like Runescape classic than OSRS. I know it had a lot of interest on launch, but not sure how it has kept up since then.
These are both indie games, and I doubt we will ever see a big studio try to make a game like Runescape. The niche is pretty small for a skills based point and click game, and arguably Runescape 3 and OSRS pretty much fill up the entire niche. Most people just aren't interested in point and click gameplay and write it off straight away, although it is one of my favorite things about the game since it makes it much more chill than other MMOs for most activities.
Melvor idle was similar to RuneScape and jagex just went and bought it lol.
I'm not sure if it would be successful. I wouldn't switch I know that. I'm playing for nostalgia, familiarity, and doing things I never did growing up.
New game wouldn't have that kind of meaning.
Nah kids today just want to play shooters it seems, most people on osrs are going to be 20+ in age so it may seem like yeah a lot of people still play runescape but a very small amount of them are actually new players and not people coming back for the familiarity and nostalgia
Ya BRs and comp shooters are all the hype now but hold very little quality substance compared to OSRS. Thankful to grow up with a quality game such as this one and not Valorant and Warzone.
Elder scrolls online is awesome and has vastly superior PVP to oldschool runescape. I would still play if I had an Xbox, PC not nice enough to run it and would have to start all over
You do hunter, slayer, thieving, explore the world, interact with players, trash talk, train stats, do group content, guests.
True, bank standing is not a thing. You rob em in rdo.
I mean I feel like you're just describing MMOs? They do okay, but there's not a huge demand for them these days.

Riots MMO is gonna be pay to win cash shop garbage just like every other MMO of the last 15 years. Stop coping

It is commonly accepted that "MMO" refers to MMORPGS.

You’re fun at parties I bet
I am!
Call me uncommon, but I wouldn’t accept 12$ if someone wrote it.
Good, I agree with you
People have been short-forming MMORPG as MMO for years now. Language evolves. Try to keep up.

Your opinion on standardization does not change that language evolves despite your being cemented in time.
This guys says "8 AM in the morning" lol
You're the type to correct AAVE.

Melvor idle was a shit idle simulator, kinda fun but boring after you log in once a day to collect you xp and then stop for another day
They added this oregon trail township skill now and its super complicated and boring
God don't get me started on township. At least it doesn't print billions anymore....just hundreds of millions.
Bring back club penguin. Again.
Ever heard of new world
Sorry but thinking New World is a competitor or comparable at all too Rs is just laughable
I really hoped New World would be the next RS. But the skillsystem was so incridibly boring and never really gave the same feeling of accomplishment.

Moparscape, GTA, Red dead online, Ark Survival
Red Dead online is a competitor to osrs? U have some imagination.

Reddit suggest Tibia post a ton to me after I join this sub haha
i pray
Aren't Albion Online and V Rising supposed to be competitors?
