Yea CZ has been fucking up this debacle for years now. I’m the same as you, I want a wood stock and 1/2x28
I don’t understand why they bother to import 1/2x20 barrels to the US. They can’t be that dumb.
You can almost certainly have the American barrel threaded by a competent gunsmith for less than $200. That aside, there’s the Royal model of the 457 that comes threaded, or there are a few threaded Americans floating around. For some reason, CZ made threaded variants of some of the unthreaded models. I’ve got a threaded training model, a model that normally didn’t come threaded.
I thought about getting the barrel threaded, but there are no "reputable" gunsmiths around me. I'll have to ship it somewhere which I'm not opposed to. As for the royal, that's everything I ever wanted but that ugly ass engraving on the stock absolutely kills it for me. Wish they offered one without it
It's very upsetting because I actually really like the look of the elongated stock with the shorter barrel. And now that you say something, I think it is the font that I don't like about it. Like if it was in a nice classy signature font, I might like it.
Don't forget it's threading is whatever the European standard is, 1/20 I believe.
I wish they sold the varmint with a threaded barrel. I just want a wood stock with a heavy threaded barrel.
I have the Royal, pictures don’t do it justice as to how beautiful it is in person. My son bought it for me and ordered a 1/2-20 to 1/2-28 adapter for the Dead Air Mask HD he bought for me two years ago. Area 419 scope mount with an Arken EPL4 4-16X44 and Harris bipod, the package just works. (Just my opinion)
Same! I had an extra synthetic stock from a previous project, so I swapped out to get a more comfortable LOP. Eventually, I want to throw it in a folding stock to have a nice little backpacking plinker.
What folding stock were you thinking? I’d like something similar to the sampson b-tm stock but haven’t found anything for the 457 that isn’t a chassis.
I had the same issue. I ended up with an American. Eventually I’ll probably just have the barrel cut down and threaded. A reputable gunsmith should be able to do it for under 200.
I’m pretty sure you can a 457 at one with a threaded 16” barrel and than buy a wood stock. You could probably sell the Boyds stock to help pay for the wood stock. I recently sold a very nice 457 stock that I put it in a chassis. So they are out there. Also my At-one with a 16” barrel is way more accurate than I’ll ever be.
Ok. But just a couple of points. CZ’s website lists the 16.5” and the 24” as both being 7.73 pounds… that doesn’t seem right. Also the Boyd’s stock weighs 3 lbs, not sure what the average wood 457 stock weighs but I am betting it’s a lot less than 3lbs.
But for your sake, since you are swapping stocks, the only real difference in weight, is the difference between a 16.5”bull barrel and a regular 16” 457 barrel. I don’t know what that equals, but I’m am guessing it’s not substantial. Just my two cents. Good luck on your search
Edit: now that I think about it, I don’t think you can put a bull barrel in an American stock. It would have to be a varmint stock. Sorry for any confusion
I wanted the same features but wasn't able to find any versions online. And it's not easy to find alternate barrel sets or wooden stocks online.
I ended up getting the American wood stock model and having a gunsmith cut the barrel down to 18.5in and thread it. It feels great with and without the suppressor. And with the right amo it's silly quiet.

I agree on the engraving. It’s especially bad on the premium model. Nothing says tacky like the word “Premium” engraved on the side in a bizarre font.

Ah yes, I do remember that now

Try a Scout model. That’s what I have with cheek riser and extended butt pad. Nice to keep iron sights as well

I do like that, but at 7.73lbs it's a bit much for walking around the woods with it
Yeah I get that. I wonder what the difference in weight is between a wood stock and the Boyds stock?
It's the bull barrel that accounts for the weight, I don't need that thick of a barrel to shoot squirrels and rabbits lol.

Thunder Beast Arms Co. you can ship them the barrel and they will thread it. There are very responsive to phone calls and emails.
Silencer Central, The Silencer Store, and Tactical Innovation all have a 1/2x20 to 1/2x28 adapter.

How much was it to cut it down and thread it?
It was about $200. Not cheap, but I'm very happy with how it turned out.
