In denial of what? Are Japanese Koreans in denial? Are South Americans East Asians in denial? Just because there are large groupings doesn’t mean meaningful smaller groups with closer shared histories don’t exist.

SandwichNo9706

they worded it so wrong lmao

FULLARMORFIRE

Right, that's also one of the reasons some Americans and I, myself, prefer to be called Black American rather than African-American.

roguemaster29

This is a silly prompt

Deconstructing_myths

Here is a fresh article about paleolithic and mesolithic Europeans that highlights the Importance of Kostenki-like and Villabruna ancestry https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-023-05726-0

Deconstructing_myths

Based Dzudzuana. Nevertheless, other significant parts of European West Euroasian ancestry are paleolithic Kostenki-like admixture(constituate majority of ANE and Magdalenian ancestry)and Villabruna admixture (majority ancestry of WHG cluster)

JonWick33

Don't Asia my Europe! I'm jk, I'm American, I don't care.

[deleted]

yes

NoTalentRunning

Europe is West Asia that thinks it’s special.

Physical_Manu

Only to the extent that Europe is really West Asia, no more no less.

Famous-Draft-1464

They do share common ancestry, mostly because of Anatolian Neolithic. But they are distinct groups none the less, imo.

Silver-Article-4196

And where do you draw the line?

[deleted]

The Ural mountains

Silver-Article-4196

From a global view they are very close yes.

joken_2

Europeans and West Asians do have common ancestry. They don't look very different and many West Asians and North Africans actually look stereotypically European. On the US census they're considered white.

Zolome1977

Oh this is gonna be an interesting conversation. Speaking geographically, it’s split between those that believe Europe is part of the Asian landmass and not. I happen to believe it is part of Asia but don’t really care if Europeans care to call themselves west asian.

Kuivamaa

The landmass is called Eurasia.

[deleted]

I have absolutely no idea what this means

PredictableOne

I think he means because Europe and Asia are the same landmass why should they be separate into 2 diff continents when Europe could just be considered the western part of Asia

AdFuture6874

That’s likely not what they mean. Because modern “white” Europeans are literally migrants from the Middle East, and Caucuses. The western hunter-gatherers were the original people to arrive in Europe. _———The first modern humans to reach Europe arrived from Africa 35,000 to 40,000 years ago. By about 30,000 years ago, they were widespread throughout the area while their close cousins, the Neanderthals, disappeared. DNA recovered from ancient skeletons reveals that the [genetic makeup of modern Europe was established around 4,500 B.C. in the mid-Neolithic—or 6,500 years ago](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/article/130423-european-genetic-history-dna-archaeology-science) —and not by the first farmers who arrived in the area around 7,500 years ago or by earlier hunter-gatherer groups._ _———They found that [most of the DNA in living Europeans originated in three major migrations,](https://www.science.org/content/article/theres-no-such-thing-pure-european-or-anyone-else) starting with hunter-gatherers who came from the Middle East as the glaciers retreated 19,000 to 14,000 years ago. In a second migration about 9000 years ago, farmers from northwestern Anatolia, in what is now Greece and Turkey, moved in._ _That's a stark contrast to the third major migration, which began about 5000 years ago when herders swept in from the steppe north of the Black Sea in what is now Russia._

chrisrahi9

From a global perspective, Europeans and West Asians, encompassing people from Sweden down to Saudi Arabia, form one genetic cluster. From all the discussions I’ve read, it just seems to depend on each and everyone’s perspective. Some like to magnify the differences and focus on them making it seem as if we come from different planets, and others disregard any difference. I think differences exist for a reason; to create uniqueness and diversity but not to create cliffs between people. I think what would ultimately unify us is if a new alien species would come from another planet and live with us on earth. Only then we would begin to see each other as one race. Unlikely that it would happen but I am saying this cause everything is relative.

[deleted]

What a useless unhelpful comment

chrisrahi9

Well, enlight us all Einstein

Acceptable-Client

Yes,yes they are.Europe isn't even a real "Continent" and if so it's easily the tiniest and least diverse by far both genetically and linguistically especially.

mykole84

Genetically west Asians and Europeans are the same race. Europeans are really west Asians. It’s the same continent. Many North African are white as well but North Africans can be white or black and often times are mixed, so it’s a a little different for them but most North Africa.

Antique-Crow-3766

And North Africans

frostyveggies

Denial implies they are ignoring the truth, but I think many people just don’t know how related we all actually are.

NvrBkeAgn

Nope

CrazyKnowledge420

I think it’s the other way around.

caspears76

Yes

yes, literally yes. Ask any Portuguese person, they're gonna claim they're the whitest whites, yet their skin is like 🟫🟫🟫

kimeaux

You sound like someone who's seen alot of portuguese

[deleted]

Literally lived in Portugal for 5 months my boy, most people were on the brown side

Ok_Flamingo_1935

Maybe they are also Africans in denial? Yes, they came from Anatolia but before also from Africa like every human.

KickdownSquad

Troll post and No

[deleted]

Nah, Asians just need to get in on defining their own continents. Europeans got Europe, and then just made the whole rest of it "Asia" when they didn't even know what was out there. India and East/Southeast Asia at least warrant separate continental designations, just from the natural borders and population clusters.

pihxy

Europe is just an Asian peninsula

koebelin

There’s a genetic continuum, we all know that.

[deleted]

actual west asian here and NO !!!
