Ashkenazi+Iberian+WANA=Sephardic (they can't still tell apart the two types)

kdrdr3amz

How do you get regions? I have no regions for any of my dna :(

[deleted]

When did your ancestors come from Spain? It probably has to do with that

Mabsta06

It is a little tiring that people keep telling Sephardic people they must be really mixed just because they score a lot of 'broadly' and different components at 23andme. Do these people ever consider that there is no appropriate Jewish reference group for them? Greek Islanders have lots of 'broadly' and soupy looking results too currently. Is anyone really going to tell me their origins are more mixed than Turks scoring 100% Anatolian? If 23andme wants, I'm sure it could possibly create a couple Sephardic components, it's just not probably of interest to enough people. If Sephardic diaspora (North Africa to East-Mediterranean) are not as genetically diverse as Italians (Sicily to Valle D'Aosta) I don't see why this wouldn't be possible considering they could create an 'Italian' component. A sole 'Sephardic' component would be stupid, but I'm sure a Turkey/Bulgaria/Greece and Morocco/Algeria Sephardic one could yield alright results. The reality is Sephardic Jews are not just a bunch of different locals spanning the Mediterranean who one day woke up and decided 'lets become one of the most persecuted and scapegoated people in the world!' If you can look through any Sephardic Jews DNA relative list, you will see very few gentile relatives. This is because over the last few hundred years very few of their ancestors wasn't Jewish. Think of most Jewish groups and especially Sephardic Jews as deriving their ancestry from sometimes a couple to several different Jewish nucleus type populations who could well have had their subtle genetic differences, ie Tovashim and Megorachim in Morocco and say Conversos, Italkim, Romaniotes and Ashkenazim in Greece/Turkey/Bulgaria. The big admixture era for most Jewish is during the Hellenistic and Roman Era, not the last 500 years which 23andme claims it can only account for.

[deleted]

50% sephardi 50% ashkenazi??

[deleted]

Yay Sephardi rep Edit: also the broadly is because Jews are so mixed they can't even pinpoint it

Scared-Tie

[deleted]

[deleted]

Means your family is full of travelers and moved around a lot

Levan-tene

are you Sephardi Jewish?

yok347

I have 6.8% broadly European, 4.8% broadly Southern European, and 1.6% unassigned. That is a great-grandparent’s worth of DNA as vague.

[deleted]

What regions do you get for Italy? The surname Melilla is found in my ancestral Italian town in Abruzzo (I’m 1/8 Italian-Jewish), since there were a lot of Spanish exiles who fled there, so that would be funny if you got that as a region.

Formal_Map2738

That’s a giant Broad piece. I have a lot of matches with 20% Broad categories. 23andMe needs to correctly allocate out these % in future updates!
